I was just walking along after capturing a fort for my civil war quest and it gave me this notification out of no where. Any idea why I failed it?

Are you a stormcloak?

Did you just take over the fort in the Reach?

The quest giver Ondolemar disappears from Markarth if you do this.

Probably what they said. :P I've failed a quest when one of the 'actors' in the quest died.

Yeah I'm a stormcloak. I guess it's because I completed Reach... Oh well, nothing of value of lost.

Aw, and Ondolemar has so few pleasures in life apart from your company.

I only ever took that quest on my thief character, because she was a burglar and just couldn't say no, and I was hoping there would be an option to shake Ogmund down. Alas no. I had to give the amulet to Ondolemar to get it out of my inventory.

As a storm cloak, why would you even CONSIDER completing that quest? I was playing an imperial and I still just turned it off.
Play the home-breaking thug for the Thalmor? No thanks.

I dunno, I did it because it was part of the main quest? I wasn't even paying attention to the details. I just wanted to completed a few main quests. I didn't know that you had the oprion to not do it if you wanted to progress further in the civil war conflict.

How is that part of the main quest? o.0 You don't even have to talk to that stupid Thalmor in Markarth. I just talked to him to see if I can rile him up, so he would fight me, before I knew it, I had agreed to that quest. I did break into the guys house, took the amulet, but then realized I would never get rid of it, since I would never turn that guy into that stupid Thalmor, so I just re-loaded a prior save. Then, once we took the Reach, the quest failed and I was happy! hahahaha

It's not part of the main or civil war quests, it's just an unrelated side quest. On the plus side, there's no consequences for failing it or not doing it. (Of course there's no real consequences if you did do it either. Ogmund still roams around free, still working as a speech trainer. he just isn't as friendly.)

As for the reason it failed- when the Stormcloaks took over, they put the Silver-bloods in charge and the elves all disappear. Since Ondolemar is gone, the quest auto-fails.

I was trying to make a Simpsons reference, where Homer joins Bigger Brothers to get revenge on Bart. All of those are on the list of reasons for joining.

Are all 3 of them supposed to disappear? The 2 soldier-types were still in my dude's game after the Civil War - they fell victim to an unfortunate werewolf attack, however. :P

Uh. I'm proud to say I have never watched a single episode of that show. (Well, I don't watch tv at all, so....)

Weird, I didn't know it was just some side quest unrelated to the main quest. I was just looking at my quest logs, and I thought Ulfric had me reporting to that one guy who tells me to take over the fort.
