Just a feeew more tidbits on the Survival Mode overhaul.

So, Todd Howard talked for a good 35 minutes at DICE, and he very briefly touched on the new Survival Mode they're working on. https://youtu.be/DKw2JpLAHdw?t=2h50m46s, set to around where he starts talking about it - Todd Howard starts at 2h30m, if you're curious to listen to the full thing. He talks about it not being harder "in the way you'd expect"... he also says it's some of the most fun he's had playing the game, and that it's totally different, but try to figure out how much of that is Howard the hype-man and how much is Howard the hardcoe gamer.

He talks about if you don't sleep, you'll get fatigued, and he even talks about getting insomnia. So it won't just be diseases contracted from wild critters like in Elder Scrolls. I know there's not many new details here to discuss, but I figured it's still worth mention. Do you think Survival Mode really will make the game feel completely different, or will it just be more like hardcoe mode in New Vegas?

Not sure. I think it will have the basic elements from the New Vegas hardcoe mode, but expand upon them alot and maybe add some whacky stuff that feels very Fallout, like insomnia. What i also see as a huge positive with this is that it can be used as a future template for Elder Scrolls or whatever other IP's they are working on!

If you eat a bad Cram, will you have a dead drop for a week?

I really want them to give us eating animation NPCs have. If they plan to introduce realism in it, at least give us the option to see us eat as well, for roleplaying purposes.

Oh yeah, he confirmed that we won't be wiping our butts in the new Survival Mode. >.> I hope the new disease mechanic adds some new purpose to the Lead Belly perk, and maybe even Ghoulish could add some straight disease resistance.

Adding insomnia makes me feel like they're looking at how people are playing the game, and trying to subvert that. That would be an interesting approach to survival mode. It's certainly not hard to get into the habit of sleeping regularly (sometimes I wonder if my Fallout characters get more sleep than I do!), but I know plenty of people that just never sleep in these games unless it's to kill time or get Well Rested/Lover's Embrace.

edit: he also said that they'll be beta testing the new survival mode for "a while". Can't wait for the beta to come out.

It's not a Harvest Moon until we can get married, and your spouse doesn't try to kill you for accidentally shot a cow.

Damn, Fallout 4 news about the tweaked Survival Mode is getting me excited again for Fallout 4. I got excited when it was announced last week?

Why?

Nice to see that Bethesda Game Studios is making the Survival Mode even make your Player Characters (PC') get fatigued and get insomnia if you don't sleep enough. Lets go crazy and say that they should make NPC's get fatigued and insomnia if they don't sleep enough as well.

It'll come for free in an update - they do generally beta test their patches on PC before releasing them everywhere, so that's probably what's going on.

I want it now though lol. I hope it launches early in March with the Automatron dlc. I am almost more excited for the DLC now than I was for the base game.

Whatever it is, I guess at the end of the day, we all here will be reporting bugs again.
