What's making the arm shape then? Another layer of mountains? Hard to tell with so little depth in the image.

Is the MP4 higher quality than the WMA? I'll go download that if so.

It's very clear in my image what makes the arm shape. I even outline it in green and label it. :) The fog is nestled in and around that peak I outlined in red. There is fog wrapped behind the peak, so there is clearly a crevasse behind the peak, and thus the "arm" is really part of another slope/peak behind the one I outlined. I couldn't make out the top of a peak if there is one... it may just slope all the way to the top, or the peak may be hidden in the fog.

As for the MP4/WMV question I'm not certain... I don't even remember the option. I downloaded the MP4 on the day the trailer launched. Edit: But I just checked for you and eyeballed it and the MP4 seems to have more detail than the WMV. But it seems to depend on the shot. Usually the MP4 seems to win out. On the WMV you couldn't make out the bartender/waiter's face.. Comparison:

http://i1022.photobucket.com/albums/af346/jonwd7/Skyrim/chair-backs.png?t=1303544314 ... Doesn't seem to be people sitting, btw... just chair backs.

Whatever the images in this thread came from are much worse quality than both, which was my original point in bringing it up. Threads about anolyzing small details should probably be using the MP4 version as "evidence". :)

1) Could somebody point out the giant to me?

2) Dwemer ruins, nothing too out there.

3) Good eye! That actually looks epic, amazing immersion kinda touch there, look forward to seeing that in game. :D

4) That's just how Draugr's eyes look.

I agree, but only sometimes. In most cases, it doesn't really make a difference.

This shot looks like there are a bunch of people sitting in an outdoor table area, and possible a bartender standing to the right a little bit. http://i.imgur.com/65Vck.jpg

No, that's just one person. He's a blacksmith, you can see him hammering something in the trailer.

No.

Dwemer ruins.

Yes it does.

Nonight eye, it's a draugr.

Would be cool if Draugr had the nighteye ability making it almost impossible to sneak up on well from the front anyways. OH NO!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia

These images people are linking to showing this "giant/statue" aren't even using the much higher quality MP4 available from the Elder Scrolls site. They appear to be captured from web streams like Youtube/GT/GI or the likes.

There is nothing there. It's a shape made out of the fog.

If I really have to I will make an animated GIF or something... but otherwise trust that there is nothing there.

First off, the Elder Scrolls is a fantasy video game where having a giant statue carved into or resting closely to a mountain wouldn't be that farfetched. Comparing it to real-life phenomena is just ridiculous.

Second, pareidolia usually has to do with seeing faces, not outlines of objects hidden behind thick fog. But that is a weak point. Really, my first point should be sufficient enough.

Third, think before you post.

Excusez-moi? Pareidolia is not at all limited to faces. Entire people, figures, etc. are probably far more common... Virgin Mary? Jesus on a crucifix? I'm not sure what at all your third suggestion could mean, because unless you've chosen to ignore it I already PROVED that it is pareidolia in subsequent posts. There is no statue, and the figure seen is simply due to pareidolia. I "see" the figure too, but I realize that's because my brain wants to organize information even when there is simply chaos (hence why CLOUDS and FOG are so common with pareidolia). Have you never played the game where you say what clouds look like? Maybe you don't understand the concept of pareidolia, and thus I refer you to your third suggestion.

Maybe you don't understand the concept of not knowing anything for certain about the game unless you're working on it. Just because you think we're all suffering from paredolia doesn't make it so.

I already admitted pareidolia being confined to faces as a weak point.

My third suggestion is still there for you, whenever you wish to start following it.

As I've already ably pointed out: http://i1022.photobucket.com/albums/af346/jonwd7/Skyrim/pareidolia.png?t=1303541601 Maybe if you adjust your suggestion to READ the THREAD in its entirety before posting you wouldn't have posted at all.

The images in the OP are of horrendous quality, and I didn't even need to go as far as outline the fog and mountain peak, because when watching the high-quality MP4 it is readily apparent there is no figure there.

Do the Draugr remind anyone else of wights from George R.R. Martin's A Song Of Ice and Fire series?

"The Others". And yes.

Or "White Walkers", for those who're watchin'. After all, watcha readin' fer?!

Look at us, arguing over shadows in the mist... God knows how we're going to survive 6 more months. Personally I think it's just an illusion caused by the fog.

As for the Draugr, wouldn't it be cool if that was the new 'detect life' effect? I'm pretty sure it's not and that those are just their default eyes... but if detect life illuminated the eyes instead of the whole body, that would be amazing. Imagine casting it in a dark room, only to suddenly see loads of bright eyes staring back at you...

The focus of that scene is the dragon. If the devs had intended to place a giant carved out in a mountain in the trailer, they would have made it more obvious for the casual viewer.

Looks like there's exposure/motion blur on the eyes of the draugr. Love it!
To me it doesn't look like anyone is sitting in those chairs in the third image.

This reminds me of a mountain in Ireland, the outline of this mountain looks like a giant lying down, in Irish legends the mountain's surface is the remains of a dead giant. :)
Hopefully that is a giant in that picture , I'm scared of the thought of attempting to fight one of those.

I wonder if that actually IS a statue. It would be cool if it was. I'd like to stand on its head.

That said, it does look like a statue.
