{Just for fun} Fall of the Space Core, Vol 1

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 9:18 am

So with the release of the Creation Kit, Valve released a free DLC for Skyrim, called http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7375&searchtext=.

Just for fun, let's pretend it's not just a mindless easter egg, but actually has serious lore implications.

Is Nirn the centre of the universe? Are we alone? Are there other universes beyond Aetherius?

And... GO!

Hell yes. I've been meaning to think up some fancy idea to justify the Space Core in lore. It's not too out of the ordinary when you think about it.

That is, so long as you discard any idea of Aperture Laboratories actually being responsible for the thing.

Sibling to KINMUNE, 2nd part of the fabled Numinatus, herald/result of the Landfall.

Maybe a predecessor to KINMUNE. Random space robot gets dissected by the Synod, which leads to the technological advance we see in the 5th Era and beyond.

He reached the edges of our space and entered into the Aetherius and floated through the hole in the sky into Mundas.

Or KINMUNE's sibling.

FWIW, I'd probably piss myself if we start seeing Vortiguants in Nirn.

It's the heart of Lorkhan, reassembled in the machine works of a long-forgotten Masserian colony.

It would be much more palatable in a Dwemer steam-punkish texture scheme...

The life-pod of a Hist-blink-root-ship.
Literally.
Inside it is a bonsai-Hist tree.

Frankly, it's got Sheogorath's fingerprints all over it. Seriously, I checked. He must have been eating cheese just before handling it.

So, is a chest burster going to come out of the Dovakhiin and start singing:

Hello! ma baby
Hello! ma honey
Hello! ma ragtime gal
Send me a kiss by wire
Baby, ma heart's on fire!
If you refuse me
Honey, you'll lose me
Then you'll be left alone
Oh, baby, telephone
And tell me I'm your own!

Lol. Sadly, it's one of the more plausible theories out there.

A transcendent being who, upon discovering and subsequently becoming bored with the wonders and majesty of his own Void, jumped over the abstract barrier and into this Void to discover, in his own words, "every space, gotta see all the spaces. SPAAACE!"

Curious about Secundas' phasic properties, he propelled himself through the body, spent a brief time in Hermaeus Mora's realm, and then wound up too close to mortal concepts and got caught in it's concept of Love, forcing it to crash onto Nirn. It hopes to one day meet a Daedric Prince (especially Nocturnal, gotta see Nocturnal, I wanna see Nocturnal. I hear she's got some space to spare.) who will take him back among the stars and it hopes to then be able to leap the plausibility barrier and get wrapped up in a story to protect the galaxy from a bunch of farmers. Or something like that.

In a place and time that is not of the Aurbis:

"Hey, Bill. Wanna see what happens if we both shoot the space core with a Portal gun?" Said Greg.

"Are you stupid?" Bill said. "Let's do it."

"For SCIENCE! Delicious, magical, SCIENCE!" Said Greg.

So Bill and Greg walked into another room and picked out a Space Core, laying it gently on the table with soothing words. It looked around and began to mutter.

"Hey guys. Where we goin'? Where we goin'? Where we goin'? We goin'na space? Goin'na space? Hm. Space. Hm." Said the Space Core. "I am the best! In SPACE!"

Bill and Greg took aim and fired, and in another moment in the Aurbis, Alduin was cast from the Time-wound. Roaring in triumph as he left the cleft in the fabric of reality behind. The ripples in space and time had subtle effects in all times and universes.

In another time in our world, I reacted to an event half a second before it happened. In another time in another world, a r'b'kalan died before being killed. In another time in another world, two portals collided at just the right moment, and opened to the moment in the Aurbis, in the darkness of Oblivion next to a star.

Bill and Greg fell stricken, their eyes now glowing pure white. Light in their world was a dancing interplay of particles of matter and energy at impossible speed. Their eyes were not built to see things through magic. If a man of the Aurbis had seen the space-wound, he, too, would have fallen stricken, his eyes not being designed to see by the light of non-Aetherial energies.

Bill rose, flailing and blind, and struck the space core, which tumbled into the portal and began to fall.

"SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa......"

The core tumbled through the depths of Oblivion, still shouting he word "SPACE!" in triumph, until it saw a world. Being a machine, it could see this world, both a planet and something "other," without being destroyed.

It flew towards it, now at last with a relative sense of speed.

".....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!" It said as it smashed into a house.

After a few moments, a man walked into the ruins. The space core looked at him. If it had had a face, it would have smiled as it was picked up and critically examined.

"Some people call me space-junk. Hm. Space." It said. "Me, I call me treasure."

Ever wonder why the Tribunal never put down roots on red mountain, intsead making pilgrimages to the heart chamber? It's because the heart wouldn't shut up.

"You see that space you're in? I made that."
