I just found out I'm screwed! Thanks Bethesda!

Post » Fri Jul 05, 2013 3:27 pm

I left the main quest alone shortly after killing the first dragon, because it was just INCREDIBLY boring and I have absolutely no interest in hunting down these lame dragons who keep flying away from me like little cowards.

Then I started doing some of the other quests like the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests which are far more interesting than the boring main quest, but I get CONSTANTLY BOMBARDED by random dragon encounters and worse yet – those lame dragons keep killing NPCs and therefore I keep getting the failed quest messages again and again!

I continued the lame main quest again, HOPING that those random dragon encounters would end, so I could finally start minding my own business again, but after reading the uesp.net Skyrim wiki, I found out about this:

Unlike the Oblivion Gates in the previous installment, the dragons will continue to appear frequently in Skyrim after defeating Alduin.

Are you effing kidding me?! There is no way to stop those random encounters? I'm not going to start the game all over again! Thanks for screwing me over Bethesda.

My advice to new players is this:

Don't ever start the main quest if you don't want to be constantly frustrated and harassed by random dragon attacks over and over again. Just give the main quest the finger and do the interesting quests instead.

Unless I find some kind of a console command or a mod that stops these random dragon attacks, I'll never buy anything from Bethesda again.

Thanks for reading my rant. I feel better now.

Just...Don't...Start...The MQ.

And you seem to be the minority. A lot of people actually enjoy dragons, myself included.

I've never really had a problem with dragons killing NPCs, except for a handful of times in/around Riften, but even then I could kill the dragon without any casualties if I focused and did things right.

I just wish Bethesda would make it so the dragons at the lairs still gave souls after being defeated more than once. Especially since they altered their frequency from fast traveling after beating the MQ.

As for dragons outlasting the MQ, I'm glad they do. I'm glad we didn't have a MQ that was only about returning to the status quo.

I agree with the original poster in the fact that completing the MQ should stop the random attacks thus giving the MQ real meaning.

Defeating Alduin either prevents the world from being destroyed, or prevents Alduin from reinstating his lordship over it, depending on your theories regarding his motivation. How does stopping him not have a real meaning?

Dragons aren't just gonna vanish when Alduin is defeated.

I use http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16724/?

Or there's the http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23906/? mod

Alternatively, dragon attacks become fairly predictable when using fast travel. If an attack is imminent, use FT between isolated locations. Defeat the dragon when it appears then travel to your destination

OP, do you even enjoy the game at all? because all your threads and posts seem to do nothing but complain.

If you do not enjoy the game, I suggest you instead go play a game you do enjoy and find fun/interesting.

I am only going by what others have said since I have not completed the MQ. But if npcs treat you the same and the dragon attacks continue, then nothing has changed. It is not a huge deal I just think it could have been handled better.

Skyrim's logic: who cares if dragons keep slaying innocent people after their boss has been defeated, you might still need to finish your mighty collection of shouts and armours.

It's not a very coherent ending, given all endings generally end with peace returning to X land.

It does not have a meaning at all because you can wait in-game years and nothing will happen. Even with dragons around there's no big deal either because:

1. Dragons can not physically destroy villages, let alone cities in their own cells.

2. Most of the wild life can beat dragons better than low and mid level characters, take bears, giants, mammoths (especially if in packs).

3. Being a Draconic crysis they surely come not that often, and with a bit of strategy you can avoid NPCs from getting slayin.

4. Before the early patches dragons acted weirdly, at times flying directly up to the sky and never engaging in a fight with you, not even if you managed to hit them during their awkward moon-walks and clippings.

5. Most of the dragons you'll ever spot will be scouting more than hundreds of meters above your head, avoiding both you and any innocent NPCS around altogheter.

Before the game came out devs really made them sound like the ultimate bane for the players when in the end a dragon is no different from a bandit or draugr.

good point.

I don't think many quests even have a "Quest Failed" quest stage..

I just checked the CK and saw they don't, so the OP couldn't have received a "quest failed" notification

Good thing you can advance the MQ to get a certain shout.

The sound effects and voice acting are excellent. The game is playable after A LOT of modding and tweaking and I do actually enjoy a lof of the quests. It's just irritating when things like this happen.

Kezardinjnr: isn't there a way to COMPLETELY STOP the random dragon attacks? Is restarting the game really the only way?

Didn't you know?

It's only meaningful if the game hits you over the head with it shouting "YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE HERP DERP!!!!1"

And OP's complaint... lulz.
