Just Got Dragon Age What Can I Expect?

Only companion I didn't like was loopy Leliana. There's worse characters in the group, but she's delusional about what she really is making her 200x more deadly. Let's just say if I had to make a bet on who would go axe crazy first, it would be her. I can trust the others to honestly be honest about being dishonest. My favorites were Morrigan, Sten, and Shale/Allistar.

See, the thing is, I usually play the good guy/paragon/light side/whatever you want to call it. I got very, very tired of seeing "Morrigan disapproves -40 or -50 or whatever" After one attempt to play through the game the way I wanted to, I left her in camp. Besides doing her quest, I didn't do much with her character. And after one playthrough with the Dark Ritual, I never did it again. Mostly I let the "secret companion" do the last blow.

I agree about the "more deadly" thing by the way, but maybe not quite the way you think. On more than one run through Leliana was the one who got the killing blow on the large optional enemy in the Sacred Ashes quest. I like her character a lot, actually.

She's a hedonist that enjoys making people suffer for the sake of suffering, and is delusional of her visions to a god and is suppressing her unhealthy desires. If anyone in that group is a few screws loose it's her. More so when the guardian itself says her visions are false. At least Zevran admits what he is, and is aware of what he can do.

I hated the gaurdian. Say about me and others, but not morrigan. Which was a shame, we know so little about her.
Leliana was to over the top for my liking, and the eyelash comment was just weird.

What character would be best as a battery for my blood mage ? I think shale would be a good tank, but dont know, logicallly shale should take the most damage, but probabally not gameplay wise.

I'm in redcliffe right now doing my first mission for the blight seeking out arl eamon. I have a quest for denerium about some kind of drake scale armor though. Should I do this soon or does it matter? I backtracked to flemeth's house and got stopped by a mob and I got some scale loot. It says I should take it to a master armor smith in denerium. Is this a suit of armor that's going to help out a lot right now? Is denerium a main quest place anyway and I'll eventually make it there?

I dont like the band. At all. And itwas terrible music choice in general, just dosent fit.
The trailer is just a fail imo.

Agreed. And then they did it again, even worse, with the 'this is the new [censored]' Marilyn Manson trailer. :banghead:

You need 3 scales to be able to make the armour, so you can't do it yet anyway.

And yes, you'll end up going to Denereim at some point no matter what.

Yeah, I would have fired the marketing team... I mean seriously, what the [censored] did those songs have to do with the game ?! Thy should have chosen something that fits the atmosphere.
And the music in the DA2 trailer was bad too, the eletric guitars. No just no.

Did you obtain an item called a drake scale? Drake scales can be given to an NPC by the name of Wade who will use them to forge up to two sets of armor. (Be generous when money is asked for) Of course, if you got the drake scale during the low road encounter, you probably don't have enough Drake scales.

Dragonborn1, in my opinion you made the right decision in going to Redcliffe after Lothering. I would recommend travelling to the Mage Tower next, for a quest connected to Redcliffe, but I'd better not spoil it further for you. I still recommend that you create a mage character sometime, as starting out in the tower gives you more perspective on the "gilded cage" they're confined to.

well if you're referring to the quest involving the kid...he's gone if you know what I mean. Should I still go to the mage tower next or should I wrap up this redcliffe quest and go find out about this urn to revive arl?

Also just want to add I'm thirteen hours in and I'm having a blast. While the game is linear in nature its still nice you can choose the order of the places you go to so it isn't completely linear. I did try going back to the woods but I couldn't find flemeth in her house or anywhere else. Anyone know where to find her or the key to the chest in her house?

There's an optional quest that involves that a little bit later on.

I'd suggest that in a future playthrough, you save the boy by travelling to the Mage Tower. But that's a strength of the game, that you miss things at first and can play a different character, trying other tactics. It's your choice whether to look into the urn or go to the Circle of Mages tower next. I preferred to leave Orzammar for last; and you can go to the Dalish elves at any point of course. It's good to hear that you're enjoying the game.

I'm going to do a second playthrough as a mage for sure. I thought maybe it would be better to save the kid during that playthrough. I'm going to head for the urn now and see how that turns out. I love how the game presents choices all the time. I have people in my party I'll probably never use but its cool how its an option. I just saved zervan the assassin and decided to take him with me even though I probably won't use him.

I like how my party is set up right now and I feel pretty comfortable with them. I'm a dual wielding warrior, alistair is sword/shield, morrigan is my mage and I also gave her a healing spell, and leliana is my rogue archer. My rep meter is getting pretty low with alistair though so I'm a little concerned about that. I try to give him gifts whenever I can so it doesn't get extremely low. My rep with morrigan is the highest. She's my favorite character so far.

I would go to the circle tower first, and probably the Brecillian Forest too. There's an optional boss that you're going to want to be pretty strong to take on as part of the Urn quest.

You get it as part of Morrigan's quest.

Well it looks like I'm going to go to the circle tower first since a couple of you recommend that. I like to do all the optional stuff so I don't feel like getting slaughtered by that boss trying to get the urn.

I'm finding that combat in the sidequests so far have been a little rougher for me than the main quest. I'm doing the sidequests for the redcliffle chanty board and those have been the most challenging thus far.

It takes patience to get through the Tower levels, but it's worth it. The Tower is atmospheric and you have the optional sidequest/puzzle that can get you the dragonslaying sword Yusaris. (Hint: highlight and read every note and book that the game allows you to in the Tower, to piece together a quest or two.) You'll also see Wynne again, whose strengths are as a support/healing mage as I mentioned. Also, Zevran's conversations are often interesting. As your character can note at one point, despite Zevran's difficult life so far he has kept surprisingly optimistic.

As an aside, when you do the Brecilian Forest quests (Dalish elf quests), you'll find some legendary armor and weapons, as well as the Arcane Warrior specialization for mage characters.

Do fallen party members gain experience or only members that survived?

Edit: ok I found all the apprentice notes in the circle tower and the quest now says something about an ancient ritual in the great hall common room. I'm in the common room but I'm not sure what to do?

I'll give you the solution as best I remember it, and you can also look it up on the Internet if need be:
Spoiler
You have to click on the three statues in the common room in a certain order. If I remember right, you start with the one on the far right. When you have the right sequence, you'll hear the click of the mechanism. You only get one shot at the right sequence, though, before you have to reload your saved game, so you might want to read a walkthrough first. Then you have to click on a statue in a later room, the room with several statues standing in the center and a lot of demonic growths along the walls, after you defeat the zombies and demons in that room. Lastly, you start walking down the steps into the basemant, near where the surviving mages and children are standing around (but you aren't able to open the door to the basemant) and will be attacked by a demon behind you, after which you get the sword. If you want to get the exact sequence for this quest, check a site such as www.gamefaqs.com. If I remember right, I was able to complete this sidequest as the last thing before leaving the Tower quest.

Thanks I was able to get the sword. Its two handed though and sten is my two handed warrior but I don't use him much. I'm in the fade right now and actually really like it. I just got all the shapeshifting forms and just backtracking to get all the essence fonts. Not sure if I'm going to head to the forest after this or wrap up the arl quest and go for the urn. I'm level 10 and I don't know if that will be enough to take care of the side boss in denirum?
