So I just got Fallout 2. Any tips?

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 7:25 pm

I just installed Fallout 2 and I am liking it so far but I am kind of lost... So does anybody have any tips??

By the way I am in the Temple in Arroyo and when I am fighting the creatures in the Temple I am barley hitting them! I keep on missing and missing, any reason why??

Depending on how much action points ya have, one can attack an ant and run back, making the ant waste their action points just to get to ya/chase ya, which ya attack the ant again and run away.

As for actually hitting them, its more that that stats wise, it is most likely ya will not hit that much (I am guessing ya unarmed/melee is round 40%-60%). That said, try kicking instead of punching the ant. Or just use the spear ya got in ya inventory.

In what way are you trying to hit the? Melee, unarmed, gun? chances are if you are missing them alot that skill is to low. You can target parts of them and it will give you the odds of hitting, like Vats.

Right click on the box (should have a picture of a spear on it). Ya will see a target O symbol on the bottom right of that box. From there, left click it and click on the foe. Remember that using the targeting system use up one more Action Point than it normally does.

That say, if ya using a gun or anything with ammos, one can reload the same way as well (will cost ya Action points as well).

Your skill levels have a huge impact in how the game is played. When you look at your Character Sheet and look at your skills, that is actually your base chance of success before ALL modifers (Like Light Level, Range, Armour Class). Your melee weapons skill by default starts low. However, I wouldn't say "Tag melee skills". It all boils down to luck. A bit of advise is to just run straight through the Temple of Trials as you really don't get much.

Oh and here is a build you can try

ST: 5
PE: 6
EN: 4
CH: 6
IN: 7
AG: 10
LK: 7
Traits: Gifted and Small Frame

Edit: Tags: Small Guns, Speech, and w/e you like for the last tag

At least I think that is it. That should get you started. It will get you 10 action points and a party of three recruits.

Oh and Styles targetting doesn't increase your chance to hit. It does increase your chance to critical with certain spots (the groin, the head, and the eyes) however. But Josh don't get concerned with Criticals because criticals are disabled for the first two days. OH and save LOTS. If you hit any speed bumps ask us or go to fallout.wikia.com to find out what you need or if you feel like cheating go to http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/fallout2.html

I never said it does. I just said it tells you the odds of hitting it. I used Vats as an example of how it gives you a % chance of hitting. Vats was the closet way I could think of to discribe it. I should have given a picture like Qawsed Asap.

Other tips, ask questions and explore. If you run into a group to big to fight run for it. Normally that will happen when travelling though the wasteland.

Do not walk into the N.C.R totting guns like an idiot. You will get violated.

#2: Save before travelling to Navarro. You have been formally warned.

#3: NEVER EVER think a Floater is going to be an easy kill. There are plenty more waiting to knock you down.

#4: San Francisco is the most heavily populated site for energy weapon totting raiders. Do not travel lightly.

#5: Super Mutants are NOT weak in this game. You will cry before you reach the 2nd level of the Mariposa Base.

#6: Do not sleep with Mr. Bishops wife. It will end very badly.

I say: "just do it!" because it's hilariously funny and Mrs Bishop has a nice surprise if your diplomatic skills are high enough.

Oh, do give followers automatic weapons and combat will never be as dull as before. :D

---------------

As for not being able to hit creatures in the Temple using melee because you've chosen a diplomatic or a highly agile sniper character: Try sneaking or hit and run tactics. I also have a hard time in the Temple when I primarily focus on a sniper character, so I use hit & run tactics. It takes ages to get through the Temple of trails but once I get a hold of a hunting rifle and start leveling up then it's me who holds all the aces.

Guns are hard to come by in FO2 at least good ones. You can buy them but they cost alot. Can loot them off dead people but killing them can be hard. The Den has alot of people selling weapons.

In Klamath you can find a pipe rifle and a 10mm pistol.

When you find the Gauss Rifle, give this baby to Cassidy. He will be unstoppable.

(well, at least he was in my case)

Guns start to really get worthwhile when you hit Den with basic shotguns and rifles being available. The guns in Klamath aren't really worth it with the limited ammo available.

If you haven't already, sell everything you can to pay Sulik's debt. He's really helps early on when you're short on weapons and HP.

I don't completely agree with this because there is ammo, maybe limited but there's enough ammo especially if you're careful not to waste it. Also the few firearms that can be found can come in handy for some quests while staying in Klamath being a gun wielding character that is, exterminating small rodents with criticals and of course a valuable trade commodity once you reached the Den.

It would be cool if the OP would give us a heads up about his progress, as I wonder how this game has stood up over the years??

Well, I have not actually gotten that far. I am currently at the Den, I have had little time to play. But today I have a whole day to play it so I hope I make some progress.

Do NOT join the slavers!

Choice and consequence. Why not join them? See what happens throughout the rest of the game. At least try it for one playthrough, though I wouldn't recommend it for the first.

Be prepared to scrap your first 2 to 5 characters.
It's hard to find a build you're going to feel comfortable with right off the bat.
