Just got game...

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:07 pm

Hi. I just got the game from on demand x box live 'cause I just got a lot of money and I'm bored. I know nothing about this game, the story, gameplay, ...anything. I'm a Skyrim player so I know the style...but anyway...I'm one of those players that gets really high and then plays RPG games and likes to get taken into the world. One of the things I hate most in any game is dying. If I even die once I'll be pissed. I've yet to die in skyrim. Any pointers, tips to help me stay alive in this world???

Stimpaks! get plenty of them & the various chems are something to consider maybe

you may want a high endurance character (more health)

Deathclaws are good at delivering a a deathblow up close so don't give that opportunity

crippling their legs can slow them down

& when fighting someone using a rifle against you I aim for the arms as that can make them drop it and reduce their effectiveness with it if they get a chance to pick it up again

You're going to get high and then say "wow, this game is depressing and bleak." Or you may laugh at it, which is sad because the hopelessness of the apocalypse is articulated much better in Fallout 3.

Are you saying that you got this game for Xbox, or for pc from the Xbox Live! Site? It makes a big difference, because the pc has a mod on fallout3nexus called One Life. When you run out of health your player passes out instead of dying, and finds that they have been looted. You said you don't like dying, so this is the alternative.

You're going to die sooner or later. I died yesterday when I accidentally wandered into a high-radiation zone.
By the time I turned around to leave I was dead.

You have an infinite number of save slots, so just save every two minutes or so and then you can "go back" without dying.
Also... in the options menu, make sure all three auto-save boxes are checked.

Yeah, there's this quaint little town in the north called Old Olney.

Stay away from it.

And watch out for holes in overpasses. Its probably the leading cause of character deaths.

Thanks everyone for the good advice, I will be using them. So far so good, I'm still in that first town just chillin' for the moment. Getting used to everything and what not. To answer some of the questions I saw...no I only have an xbox 360 but it's all gravy. I didn't mean everyone does drugs, I just meant me. I don't know I was high when I posted that...as I am now...anyway, and uh...a lot of money was just a lil' over a grand. Not too much but a lot for video games. I'll probably get the new vegas one next if I like this one.

BEWARE TEH CARZ! No seriously, alot of people complain about cars blowing up and killing them so watch out. The blast radius is pretty big so just try to steer clear of any cars on the road, especially in combat.

Spend that money and buy a pc. No, not pcp. A pc. And then you will be able to enjoy the games you've been missing...
...
@_@
hold on... how are you posting on this site if you don't already have a pc? And you bought the game for Xbox and have to use a controller, and you want to avoid dying in Fallout 3.

Then you'll just have to be extra careful, fearful of all danger, and a pro gamer. How do I not die in a game I've never played before?
Better to ask the sun not to set in the West or for a mountain to move out of your way. Just save a lot so that when you die it won't be such a hassle.

I have a computer but it's not good enough to play games on...besides I prefer controller over keyboard and mouse on just about any game. I don't like mods so that's not an issue. And so far so good, I'm on my way to help that radio guy w/ no deaths so far. I've avoided many enemies already by sneaking around a lot. So far haven't even come close to dying. I'm a level 39 in skyrim w 0 deaths so we'll see....

when some of your dialogue choices are obvious taunts, make sure your health is above average before choosing that dialogue. For instance there's a specific fort North-West of the map with certain people wearing a certain type of power armour; when one of your dialogue choices is "shut the [censored] up and get that gun out of my face"... well I don't think I need to tell you what the response was.

Don't be afraid to explore. It's crazy the things you can find out there.

Pass the dutchy on the left hand side

OMG I haven't heard that phrase in AGES hahahaha. Who remembers this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUH1XmFb05Y

@ Solace: Just make sure you save often. Stick around Megaton for a while and help Moira with her Survival Guide, talk to the people there and pick up some quests. Most of all, have fun! :D FO 3 is awesome.
Oh yea, get the DLCs, definitely Broken Steel, since that one raises your level cap.

Loot everything and everyone, buy stimpacks from vendors. That should be your first priority.

don't want to die, get dogmeat if you have the GotY. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_companions he is a super dog, almost unkillable.

Don't get cocky. When the Enclave begins showing up in groups you won't be charging at them. And then Broken Steel, the Hellfire troops absorb damage and supermutant overlords with their cheating, armor ignore weapon bonus. That's just dirty. Is that what the op means when they get mad by dying? Because the overlords are the definition of cheap challenge.

One piece of advise, get the Rock-It-Launcher. You can use anything as ammo! :D

Well, almost anything..
