Just got oblivion for the first time on pc and it's the firs

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:27 pm

as the title suggests today i downloaded a copy of oblivion off steam. This is the first Elder scrolls game i have had on pc. I decided to mod it(having played the game 300+hours on ps3) and all i can say is WOW. I never knew mods could bring oblivion so alive and the texture packs i am downloading should improve things even more (qarl's texture pack 3).

just thought i would share this as the amount of mods available have blown my mind lol.

I agree. Glad you've found Modblivion! And found it to your liking. :)

If you felt so inclined, you could also post some kind of appreciation http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1181474-show-some-love/. Totally optional, of course, but hey, doesn't cost anything, and I'm sure modders won't mind a bit more praise or what have you.

Just a thought. Anyway, have fun!

edit: Oh, and along those lines, but a bit more... lasting, I suppose, there are Endorsemants to be left at TESNexus.com (if you felt like it).

If you want more eyecandy, I suggest you to grab some Unique Landscapes mods (the OMOD complete package is an even better choice). The new Great Forest and the area around and between Skingrad and Chorrol are just awesome (assuming you've all Oblivion settings on Max.).

Take a look at the first link in my signature to TESIV:Positive, this website can save you a lot of headaches in the future if you use it before you add too many mods.

Also, don't get Qarls Texture pack 3, the the redimized or redcuded version, the former will cripple your system.

That's not true,at least for me.I have run QTP3 with other mods as well as hi res texture mods and my system didn't die.You just need streamline,OSR and some tweaks on oblivion.ini to make the game work better on multi core pcs.Another suggestion for owainn: start reading guides, mod suggestions thread and visit TESIVPositive,Planet Elder scrolls and of course tesnexus.Look for most endorsed/downloaded files and then look through a section, for example, immersion to find some mods that aren't quite popular but are needed and quite good. Trust me,you have done a great thing by buying Oblivion on pc

Just a friendly warning to the opening poster. Don't fall into the trap that many before you have done.

1. Know what you want to add or fix before you start.
2. Add mods to your game, checking for issues as you do so by play testing.
3. Learn the basic installation utilities (OBMM and or BAIN). Installation of a bad mod can be a painful experience. These tools will make the task so much easier.
4. Learn how to troubleshoot you issues. These occasions will happen as you mod your game more heavily.
5. There's really only one mod that you need - The Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Take it easy and enjoy. Modded properly Oblivion can be a hell of a ride.

I think the point is that QTP Redimized has very little loss in visual quality and considerable gain in performance, so it's still nearly always best to use QTP Redimized.

It's not so much the framerate hit that's bad, it's the increased RAM usage. Oblivion crashes once it reaches a certain amount of RAM usage and QTP3 brings you ever closer to that limit. You can raise the limit with the 3gb enabler but I think OBSE precludes that and removes the LAA flag.

Also: Get BOSS and Wrye bash. Don't wait until some mod readme tells you to, they are incredibly good at ensuring stability and you should learn to use them as soon as possible.

Welcome to modding Oblivion! I came here through the same process as you - played it for 300 hours on the XBox, then I heard about Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO) and just had to try it, so I bought the PC version. That was... 3 years ago now? I've spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours since modding and playing Oblivion.

thanks guys :) :) just thought i would update on my mods

>cheydinhal pet shop

Get rid of this mod. It's badly broken and will mess up your game. BOSS recommends replacing it with Insanity's Pet Shop for same functionality. (BTW, BOSS is very useful for getting your things in order, along with Wrye Bash - just do a search on TESNexus.)
