Just had an amazing idea

I was just thinking about Morrowind and it hit me that this year ( If it already hasn't ) will be Morrowinds 10th birthday/anniversary and I was thinking they should do something like 343 did with Halo, they should re-release Morrowind for current gen consoles with updated HD graphics.

This would be a great idea for Bethesda because old-time fans who may not have internet accsess or don't have an account on steam can get the game without having to get the Backwards compatibitlity disc for Xbox and without having to go on Ebay to get an Xbox copy. This would Also give PlayStation fans a chance to play Morrowind.

And it's really good for the consumers not only is one of the best installments to the Elder Scrolls franchise being out again anyone who may have an un-opened mint copy of the game would be in luck because those 2002 versions of the game would go up in value. Now I know PC people can get HD graphic mods but what about the people who don't have it on PC? they will have to deal with crappy graphics.

Now you might say "just get it on PC" some people aren't able to or are just horrible at PC gaming and it really isn't fun to play on a platform you just don't get. Anyways I think this would be an amazing idea. Anyone agree?

WAAAY too late for that. If they focused all of their effort on it, they *may* be able to get it out by christmas. If they were doing this, they'd have started last year or the year before.

Yeah I kind of figured after I posted it, it probably wouldn't come out this year unless they already started it and we don't know I didn't know about the Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition until it released. I'm pretty sure they'll do something if they're not too caught up in DLC it's not making a whole new game so if they did a little of it on the side when doing Skyrim and more when doing DLC for Skyrim they could easily have it out in time especially if all they do is change the graphics and a new game case design

They certainly could pull out a profit if they did something like that. Think of all the newcomers to the Elder Scrolls world from Skyrim that would pay attention to something like that after they've had their fill of Skyrim. It would make a good quickie filler until the next major ES incarnation. Frankly it would be fun for PC users too.

This is about thread number 30 on the same basic topic. General consensus is that it's a bad idea. The PC players can d/l mods that equal or surpass what Bethesda would do at this late stage, and most of the console players no longer have an interest in this old "dinosaur". The few that still play it on console don't justify the expense, as opposed to putting those creative resources into a new game that would generate a lot of revenue from all segments of their target market.

It's not that it wouldn't sell, it just wouldn't sell enough.

That's me. I use a PC at work and I have one at home for working at home but I don't play games on it. You got to worry about viruses and mods conflicting with each other. You need special software like Xpadder to get certain games like Oblivion to work right with a controller. You need to download weird programs with unintelligible names like Wrye Bash and learn how to use them in order to enjoy mods properly. PC's are a headache waiting to happen.

There are a growing number of console players who would welcome a more enriching roleplaying experience.

I wouldn't be surprised if a 10th anniversary Morrowind, upgraded graphically to current platforms, would sell more than most people think if they marketed it right, riding the tails over all the hoopla over Skyrim and all.

They released a 5th Anniversary Oblivion edition, which makes no sense to me since you can play Oblivion on all the current gen platforms and you can buy GOTY Oblivion discounted at Amazon. 5th Anniversary Oblivion is no different than GOTY. Sure you get a book and a map and stuff, but the game itself is the same.

Morrowind, on the other hand was never released for PS3 and, although it is backwards compatible with the 360, it does not play all that well. Loading times are atrocious and you cannot save your games under diferent profiles or back up your saved games.

If they updated the graphics, fixed the atrocious loading times, tweaked a few things like cliff racers and maybe made dungeons respawn, I bet they would sell a bunch if they marketed it right.
