Just how hard will it be to find arrows?

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2010 12:16 pm

In one of his first interview, todd said that to compensate for increased arrow strength, arrows would be much harder to find. Along with this, instead of changing the prices for arrows, in the new economy system arrows are just removed. It just worrys me that at some point far into the game it will become impossible to be a archer because you don't have enough Arrows. Thought?

Doubt they will gimp archers with no ammo. Insead of carrying 150 Iron arrows, it will probably be more like 30.

Arrows are more powerful this time, it balances archery. It's doesn't gimp.

It'd take the fun out of it. Bows are stronger so less arrows are needed and I'm sure won't be too hard to aquire.

If they made a conscious decision to make arrows more powerful and less plentiful, they they probably gave thought to accessibility. I doubt you will run out of arrows if you plan accordingly.

I'd be willing to bet that in the end we'll still have more arrows than we'll know what to do with.

I doubt they will be extremely rare. Just rare relative to oblivion. Instead of having 200 arrows in your inventory you'll have a more reasonable amount like 20-30.

Don't worry I bet there'll be tons of em if you're diligent about searching containers and looting corpses.

I agree with theses post. It won't surprise me if like the Fallouts I will end up using a mod to reduce ammo, in this case arrows.

if arrows really are gonna be SUPER RARE i think that w/e character you have if they use a bow pick up as many as you can!!!
if you NEED to drop an unnecessary weapon for some more arrows, go for it.

They'll most likely, but not confirmed I don't think, be a way to craft arrows. It'll make you rethink that milelong shot on something, making you almost forced to move closer in order to not waste any precious ammunition.
I could go almost through a whole dungeon in Oblivion with really only 10 arrows, most of the time I could just retrieve my arrows from their body.

kinda on/off topic but I hope the arrows that arrows have more of a mechanic to them, IE sharp/dull arrows and such and if oyu take one out of the body and theres 3 arrows that 1 will be removed and not all 3. Useless yes, nice feature ya :)

Probably not all that hard to find decent ones, but hopefully we'll be able to craft at least basic ones if we have the skill. That way, mods could rebalance availability of decent ones to make it more challenging. Good ones should only be available in stores, and not in unlimited numbers either.

I posted this is another similar thread: I believe the bow and arrow predated Iron weapons in our history by thousands of years. If we can expect similar weaponry to Oblivion, (Iron, Steel Silver etc) I also find it beyond absurd that arrows would be that scarce. Just your basic Iron arrow would be made with a fraction of the Iron used to make a longsword. Wood would be plentiful and I would imagine feathers would be as well. But maybe they're assuming there aren't enough birds in Skyrim?

I prefer an archer/mage build using ranged attack's, stealth and destruction for my combat. I'm afraid this does not bode well for that character type, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It's an easy enough fix with a simple mod or even toggle some up with the console if they are extremely rare and hard to come by. But it just doesn't make logical sense to me that they would be extremely scarce. If archery is that powerful perhaps there is a balance issue with the skill?

Thoughts?

The said arrows are harder to find than in past Elder Scrolls games, they didn't say HOW hard they are to find. Is it like, really hard type hard to find, where every single arrow ends up being more precious to you then a valuable gem? Or just harder compared to Oblivion, where I often ended up wishing I had fewer arrows because they're just cluttering up my eventory and I end up finding new ones faster than I can use up the ones I currently have? We don't know, we only know arrows are less common than in past games, which seems like a necessary change to balance out the increased damage from archery, but hopefully, Bethesda knows better than to screw potential archers over because there just aren't enough arrows to use them extensively.

Considering I tended to sell or drop most arrows I looted in past TES games as a primary Archer character... meh.

Hopefully they will give the option to pull the arrows out of your victims faces. I don't understand why that out of the 15 arrows I'd shoot into a guard i could only recover 3. If the arrow hit him so hard that it broke inside of him, The first shot should have killed him!

How? the quiver is the ready ammo, you can have more in your backpack.
yes they could have a separate quiver but as it could easy hold 20 arrows you would have no problem refilling it after the fight.
