Just like Rpg Maker in 3D!

I love the editor, it's just like the Rpg Maker series only in 3D. Bethesda should release a standalone version. Altough i have just barely started reading the documentation, it looks promising so far. :fallout:

Wait what? A standalone version of the GECK? What good is the GECK without Fallout 3 to mod with it? And isnt it already kinda standalone, since you dont need Fallout 3 to run it. What were you going for there?

I think the OP means using the GECK to create totally new non-Fallout games.

The most you can do with GECK (in theory) is a total conversion, if such a thing is still possible (I know it was with Morrowind and I think there are some projects in the works for Oblivion so it should be).

Even then, you'd be looking at creating a ton of models and textures and it would still need FO3 in order to play the game and you would still be limited to the basic gameplay mechanics of FO3.

There's probably also licencing agreements and restrictions too as far as the middleware that FO3 runs on when it comes to what can be done with it both inside and outside of Bethesda Softworks. Less so for them, more so for us modders I'd imagine.

Oh yea, you could make entirely 'your own game' with the geck using absolutely none of the models or textures or sound from Fallout 3. However you still need Fallout.exe to run the game, so the person playing it would still need Fallout 3. But it would be entirely possible, and I don't think (since the person still needs to own FO3) it would be against any rules anywhere were you to put the time into making everything. But to do so you would need alot of people.

Yeah it's standalone allready, but i mean they should make it so you don't need Fallout 3 to run maps like Rpg Maker.

Anyways, anyone know how to bring up the console on european keyboards. The ~ key dousen't work for me and i can't test my maps.

I honestly don't think they should make it be able to run on its own... It was made TO mod Fallout 3, why should they waste their time making it so the 2 people on earth dedicated enough to do so can use their tools and engine to make a game that would probably end up svcking?

Why would it svck? The only difference is that instead of playing your game from inside Fallout, you would make an exe and play it on it's own using the same engine. But this is a mod tool so i know they won't bother doing it. The only solution would be to license the Gamebryo Engine...

It was only something i would like to see, since it reminds me of Rpg maker. I was hoping for a 3D version of Rpg Maker, but it's apparently only on Ps2.

I should have clarified the last part of my last post more but made it right before going to bed hehe

What I meant was that even if Bethesda did release tools to allow you to make a stand alone game, no FO3 needed, their tools rely on middleware and such so I'd imagine there'd be some major licencing issues.
