Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:35 am

don′t hurt me if there is already a answer to this question somewhere out there, but i didn?t found it ...

so, simple question ... i read, that main character will be voiced ... but will it also be possible, to turn off the voice (only main char)

[x] yes [x] no ...

cuz i realy think about bying the game ... but a voiced main character would be kind of ... well i hate them [personal oppinion] ... so uhm ... yea ...

sadly, no. You're stuck hearing those voices that will not fit your character in any way whatsoever. Best thing to do is mute the screen, or hope someone in Nexus gives you a mod that gets rid of the voice acting or replaces it with someone who's more up your character's alley.

well ... the part with muting is nothing new ... but would kinde ruin the atmosphere t.T (i kinda like npc dialog and music x3)

the part with replacing ... well would be the best thing, but i don′t think that something fitting exist :P ...

so, i will just have to hope for a mod wich get rid of it ;(

but seriously ... why can′t the dev′s put that option in from the start

well... guess i have to think twice if i should bye the game t.T ...

but thanks for the answar x3

You will need to hear what he has to say, too.

The dialogue system does not support anything more than a keyword for an answer, so unless there are subtitles, you will not know what you are talking about when turning it off or muting it.

@Vincent eh??? Far as I was aware the keyword led to the full dialogue. Even if turned off with subtitles, you still have full dialogue.

that's a matter of opinion, lot of people upon other sites dislike it, but they'll just have to wait until someone creative enough will get rid of the voice.

Yes that is indeed an opinion.

It's Bethesda's opinion because that's how they have made the game.

i suspect the voiced dialogue system is so integral to how the game works

that to try to mod around it would be onerous, impractical and pointless.

I think the truth is that for players whose enjoyment is tied to

having a silent protagonist, they should forget Fallout and play something else.

Not taking away people's right to express a view, but I'd be surprised to see a workable mod in a hurry.

I often see people say it'll be hard to mod out,

Well if your up for a 1/2 arsed fix all it'll take is opening up the Sound.BSA pulling all of the main characters lines out.

Now here is where "hard?" comes in, you have to either find a way to automate this or do it one at a time. Simply overwrite each sound file with a blank clip. Then you drop that into the correct folder pathing likely going to be fallout4\data\sounds\actor\mainchar

Ther you go now your character is a mute, and of course you have no idea really what you just said to each character in the game unless you use Subtitles, so basically no need for an ESP pluggin to be built.

Not really hard at all just tedious work and it may eat up a lot of time to do it unless you have a way to automate that which I don't but sure someone out ther might.

Not in a hurry, but probably within several months. I've seen people who changed the entire UI system to be that of Fallout 1 and 2 with NV and 3, with a prompt up screen much like it and your choices out. So yeah, I think if a person is that annoyed with it (and I don't blame them, one voice cannot fit all personalities and body types, already it's hard to see that voice on a chunky dude or psychopath/tribal warrior. Sociopath? Most likely.) enough, they'll change it or add their own voice as a replacer.

While I don't mind Howard/Nora speaking (it was really weird to have the one-sided conversations in FO3 and NV where the NPC seemed to know exactly what you were thinking via a meta level of looking at the dialogue option), some feel it ruins the immersion and I can get that. I wasn't planning on my Sole Survivor sounding anything but gruff with a throaty, gravelly voice.

You're probably right.

Time will tell. The arguments over skills have died down because perks have some complexity.

How voice works in practice is going to increase or diminish the desire for mods.

And we're dealing with change, and

Change. Change never, er, changes... B)

well, the point is not that i dislike voices ... in fact, i love voiced games ...

but point is, the biggest plus which fallout had (until now at least) over every other game i played was the "modibility" of the game ...

i think i spent more hours playing mods, than i actually used playin the original game ...

and i also understand that many peaple love voiced actors ...

but for me, the first thing i did playing fallout ... look for shoj? girl mod ...

cuz i kinda always liked the idea of thinking myself into a little japanese shoj? girl waking up in a post apokalyptical world and fighting herself throug as inteligent sniper girl x3

so, now think an advlt englisch lady (or in my case german lady) or dude is the voice of that cool little japano-english sniper girl ...

kinda anticlimix, isn′t it ...

the voice in fact is great for all, who like to play the original intended plot ...

but it infact destroys one of the greatest benefits the game had to offer ...

and it is clear, that no mod on earth can fix things, which were just forgotten (or didn?t payed anny atention to, were thaugt unnecceserry) during development ...

or at least not at the beginngn *cry*

The player's voice won't be a problem for me that's for sure since I've played many games with such feature. But I do understand those folks who find the voice obtrusive to their rp imagination. Perhaps an optional setting would have been better. I'm curious as to why Beth decided to do it. First time they do it and I wonder if they will introduce this to TES6 as well.

well that's my point: Voiced (especially ONE VOICE, I mean, at least Saint's Row had multiple voices to choose from) playable characters in a RPG is kind of weird, honestly. But eh, just hope for the best, or just uh, try to imagine it as your preferred voice.

well ... i may have a good imagination :P but seriously, i can′t just think a hear voice out of my head ~_~

thing they should have done : put spoken text into optional head or subtitels and give the player the deccision if he want′s to hear the voices or if he like the oldschool role playing approach ;) ... but i guess for the "they should have" it probably now is too late ;/ ... but maybe in future projects ...

Many audio editors can do batch processing. Even some free ones.

Dump the files in, set volume to 0 and it will overwrite the original files with silence. Leave to run overnight (if the program can handle that many in one go).

I was actually extremly sceptical about the voiced player. After I spoilered myself the last few hours (no I don't tell how and where). I have to say I don't mind so much anymore.

Doubtful that a mod will have an easy time with it. Unless grunts, groans and pain sounds are separate from the voiced dialogue, there won't be any easy mute option. While many people might complain about there being voiced dialogue.. I think most would be just as unhappy with absolutely no sound when their player gets shot. Every past game has had a voiced protaganist. They just didn't speak any words. (except for the dovahkiin.. he shouted in dragon words..)

Well no, not really. If I want to play Bethesda's Shepard character it's all fine and good. If I want to actually play 'my' character, it can be a real problem. Especially if I want to play a male more than once and want that person to be different. But yeah if all I want is to move past dialog so I can get to the next thing to shoot at ... I really wouldn't care at all if they all sound the same.

I'm sure it will be very simple to mod, just have all dialogue muted and only leave in non-dialogue voice such as pain and fatigue. In the meantime, previous games have had individual sliders for sounds such as the radio, footsteps, music, etc. and I'm fairly certain voices is one of them, so mute that. Easy peasy.

Doubt there's any sane person who will voice 11k lines for free.

Never underestimate the passion of an obsessive B)

Though that doesn't mean the replacement is good.

Voice actors are actors for a reason.

Yeah, that was what I meant. You will have someone that will outperform (that means a lot of retakes) and do it for free. Much less ambitious endeavors never happened.
