Just make it free (DLC Rant)

Post » Fri May 31, 2013 4:58 pm

Averaging 200 players on PC, PS3 and 360 you would think that they would give us this content for free?

Your new game modes are going to be dead on arrival and should no doubt be free. People don't even play some of the other game modes that were included on the disc, you think they are going to play the modes that cost additional money?

The CLAW and RHINO, you guys want to add new guns, fine, I personally don't like the idea of someone having access to a weapon or attachment (JACKAL SUPPRESSOR) that I can not because of retail hell. At least those of us who purchase the content will be able to use those weapons on a regular basis.

The 4 Island maps. They look so good. This is the core of the content drop. I really hope this doesn't split the player base up like it did in Crysis 2.

I think you guys are taking a completely wrong direction with this DLC. I will reluctantly purchase it, I just hope this time I actually get to PLAY it.

How can Crytek turn this content into being justifiable? The easiest way is to use those 4 new maps and just make a horde/wave mode against the Ceph on the island and offer leaderboard stats. AT LEAST this guarantees I can play something that I purchased.

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled on the Crytek facebook for free-codes because I REALLY don't feel the need to watch 15 dollars disappear.

PLEASE DO NOT LET WHAT HAPPENED IN CRYSIS 2 WITH DLC HAPPEN IN CRYSIS 3.

I think it is a wrong thing to assume that this led is not worth buying. I think it can work but only if the already existing community supports and promotes this. I think with more cooler advertisemants that are fan made could save this game.

it's way over priced for what it contains. if it was 5-6quid i would probably pick it up if it was integrated.
people bought and supported the crysis 2 DLC but when it came to making it more playable and putting the maps in the mix it was radio silence.
it's not the community who are at fault, it's up to crytek to make it worth buying not us.
it's daylight robbery at this price.
they could have even used the crysis 2 DLC as free pack to put in the mix. we got shipyard so why not the rest?
it will be crysis 2 DLC all over again, excellent maps with nobody playing them.

The only thing that can make this DLC not worth buying is if there aren't enough people who also bought the DLC to play against.

I agree. This is probably the best argument for making it free. I posted this on their Facebook and I'll post it here:

"These maps look great, and I'd love to play them, but they should have been free. I can't justify spending money for this. It's nonsensical to think that such a small community would entrust $15 in a few maps under the assumption that enough other people have purchased it as well in order to enjoy it online. Plus, PC gamers are generally used to maps being free, as many games allow users to create their own maps. *ehem* Is that possibly why you never released the C3 SDK? You wanted to justify ripping us off $15? You are just driving your community away. If you want to hold the interest of your community, and sustain a community at all, you would do the sensible thing and make this a free update.

A Single Player expansion on Lingshan however, I WOULD pay for. Like a Warhead-type expansion, preferably with a Nomad-centric story arc."

Have they learned nothing from the trainwreck that was the Crysis 2 map packs? Very few people bought those and now they are just forgotten, wasted maps that nobody can play. Multiplayer map DLC should not exist. Multiplayer maps should be provided as free updates to keep the community interested in the game. The only reason CoD gets away with map packs is because they have a MASSIVE console following willing to pay for anything they pump out. Crysis does not, and has never had a community large enough to support something like that. They are trying to milk us of every last penny on miniscule content that we might not even be able to use, and judging by the outcome of the C2 DLC we definitely won't be able to use it after only a few months.

Update: I just made a quick check, there isn't a single Crysis 2 server running ANY of the DLC maps. Up until the whole Crysis 3 DLC fiasco, I didn't even know those maps existed. Man, what a waste. I have Maximum Edition, so I own the DLC. I just can't play it. Crytek, please don't make the same bonehead mistake (Even though I know you will).

Crytek, if you make it free, everyone will have it. Everyone will be able to play it. Everyone will love it. Everyone will love and respect you for it. Large portions of the community will regain interest in the game, and people who may have stopped playing are bound to revisit the game. You should not be focusing on milking money out of your customers when the community is so small, you should first be focusing on actually sustaining the community. Free map and content updates are a great way of doing this.

I don't like throwing around mindless EA hate, but something tells me that EA is heavily influencing Crytek's horrible, insulting marketing decisions.

Don't think paying $15 for all the work done is in any way unreasonable. It's coming out June 4h, from today that's $2.50 a day IF you buy it on the 4th. That's the price of a coffee.

Hell I paid twice that for my mouse pad.

It's not the price that gets me Light, it's the fact that if not enough people buy the DLC it will become unplayable. $15 bucks isn't much to ask, I think this pack should be about $10 but either way.

My problem is with having purchased DLC maps only to never be able to play them because of the small amount of players who did buy it.

What do they plan on doing this time around? Let the servers add the DLC maps to the normal rotation? Good, but then what happens when a player is in there and they don't have the map do they get kicked out? Does having DLC enabled mean that only players with DLC can play?

It's splitting up the already small community.

It really svcks cause I REALLY want to play these maps! I will be purchasing the DLC in good faith that Crytek doesn't let it go unplayed.

I will say this, when was the last time you bought a crytek product and it went to plan? I would rather have access to SDK, hey i'd pay 15 bucks for that, i'd pay 30 bucks for that, because it means the game can continue to grow. Right now this is not what the game needs, watch how fast these new weapons get banned on non-dlc servers. I'd like to buy it, the maps look awesome so far, but I just think I will never actually get to play them apart from the launch. They need to be free or close to free
