Just noticed from the trailer...

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:18 am

Just noticed that when the Dragon lies dead and the Dovahkiin absorbs his soul, the dragon just turns into plain bones, you can see his skull, do you think the dragon remains will stay there for the whole game? will they disappear after a while?.

Since dragons are infinite if the remains stay there, well, there will be a point where Skyrim is filled with dragon bones...

What would you like to see? Dragon remains reminding you of an epic battle? Or do you want bones to disappear?.

from my understanding they stay there and i think that is awesome. and no the whole world won't be cluttered with dragon bones the game world is huge ok think back in OB it took about 40 minutes to and hour to walk from leyawin to Bruma.. you will fight thirty dragons tops..and that is tops.. so the game world won't be cluttered with them because the game world is just too big.. if we killed 100.. then ok that might be bad

"This is where I slayed my first dragon...." *admires bones*

I love the sentimentality to it. Nice catch.

I would assume it's similar to Oblivion, the remains go when the cell respawns, if you have stayed away for 72 hours or whatever. Damn shame, making a 'Dragon's Graveyard' of your very own would be pretty cool.

theyve said theres no set # to the dragons so it could be well over 30
but i heard somewhere that only important dragons' skeletons stay forever, like ones tied into the story
but thats just a rumor i heard

I think it would cause performance issues, as on Fallout 3 sometimes ash piles and bodies wouldn't disappear after 72 hours and it would slow down the game, as it tried to process all the different piles around the cell you were in.

But if those were loose bodies with their own physics, then they'd be harder to keep trck of instead of being placed as a concrete, immovable object, no? Like, those bones cannot be moved around (as they sink in to the ground for solidity), but maybe chipped and worn over time. Therefore, all the game has t odo is save those "landmarks" where they sit, and determine they wear by the time that has passed. I'm sure it'd be no trouble for all the epic detail Bethesda has already put into the game.

I thought I read somewhere that the dragon bones stayed there forever, however that might bot have been official information and just some random post.

Although I think it would be cool you would see a dragons remains and then think back to the battle.that would be cool especially if it was at a very memorable spot.

just thinking about this, even if you killed even 150 dragons, that's less than the dungeons on the OB map. I appreciate that map can look a little crowded at times, but walking around it's hardly full, there are concentrations of dungeons, but still loads of space, and you could miss a load without the 'points of interest' markers on the compass. A pile of bones is likely much smaller than a fort, you could kill 100's, and might still go from one end to the other without seeing the bones you'd left.

It's supposed to disappear completely.. we didn't really see it for that long in the trailer, the bones might turn to ashes last. I do not think the dragons bones would stay there.

Good point, Zen..... But Oblivion was more flat than Skyrim? And therefore, you'd often have vantage points from which you could observe more land, and see the sites of the previously felled dragons.

Also, what if giants and other creatures raided the skeletons to make weapons and trinkets, like they might? That's an interesting thought. I mean, where do those giants get their bone jewelry anyway?

Just got a picture in my head of you killing a dragon in town, and all the guards rushing over to inspect the remains like they did in oblivion. "Oi! Do you mind? I'm trying to absorb a soul here. Bit of space, please,"

Lol. I meant savage creatures trying to scavenge the bones for weapons, etc. Like eskimos. But your visual was quite hilarious....

I want to be able to "loot" the bones for item crafting like blacksmithing. After that I don't want them to stay.. If the dragon dies in a glitchy position it would look terrible to see bones clipping through a tree or something.

Or, it'd be epic, considering the beast crashed into the tree, and the trunk was felled with an embedded skeleton of the fire-breathing monster...... I. AM. SO. EXCITED FOR THIS GAME!!!!!!

Providing it doesn't create a huge memory lag then I think it would be cool to have dragon bones remain, although maybe they can include them in the game world somehow. Maybe if you kill a dragon outside Solitude and don't take all the bones with you (providing you can) maybe a local merchant will instead recover them and start selling them as alchemical ingrediant or as a recource to create weapons and armour from, after all there is an economy in the game so it would make sense me thinks

Dragon bone armour and/or weapons would be the coolest thing ever in an Elder Scrolls game.

Nice profile picture by the way!

Would be a nice sentimental touch to the game, im all for it and as for the Dragon Armor that sounds like a main quest reward to me... :whistling:

that is until the game becomes so cluttered with dragon skeletons, the game starts breaking apart and becomes completely unplayable... kind of like fallout 3 after only a couple hours of gameplay.

even more so when using energy weapons in fallout 3... god, i hope the dragon remains will vanish after a couple days.

dragons are infinite... its going to be a REAL damn pain if they stay forever... for the reason i just mentioned, and because it'd just be irritating having to navigate through a maze of bones while trying to find a dungeon to explore.
