I JUST NOTICED SOMETHING

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:23 am

There are no cats. (EDIT: I mean House cats. Not big death machine cats.)
There are dogs
And rabbits
and Kajiits
But no actual kittens and cats.
We have argonians and dragons.

Why cannot there be kittens and cats?

Anyone got a theory to justify the lack of felines of the four footed variety?
(Not a pressing issue. But still.) (this only came up because my kitten kept sitting in from of the screen and watching me try to kill a dragon while she hit the screen where the dragon was flying...)
SO!
What strange things have you noticed while playing? How did this realization come to be?

I think the presence of dogs is because of them being believable as a companion fighting at your side (there are 3 dog companions), while a cat killing your enemies would be a little...

There are sable tooth big cats though.

The bandits killed them all.

"You remind me of my cousin's cat... I killed that too!"

Also: Saber-Tooths = Cats.

My strange realization came when I made my second character I saw that Studded armor is not as good as Leather armor; which is counter-intuitive for a person who's been playing RPGs for several decades.

You don't exactly see cats in the wilderness, besides large felines, and they wouldn't really be able to do much in combat

Perhaps the devs didn't include small cats is because the environment is too harsh? You will notice that even the dogs are quite bulky and hairy. I didn't find it odd that they were not in game.

I noticed there is no electricity, bathrooms, babies, underwear, water containers, garbage containers, toys for kids, any kind of birds, children of different races, nothing with wheels except carriages, glasses... I could go on for hours.

Fair enough. All those are decent reasons.

Im not really thinking cats as fighting partners (god no.)

But in places like Whiterun** derp nad Falkreath(?) and the small towns, the enviroment doesn't look that harsh.

TRUTH. the lack of bathrooms and babies is alarming and weird!

I think you mean Whiterun. Winterhold is the harshest of all the holds.

Winterhold doesn't look harsh to you?

That place is [censored] brutal! It's basicly falling apart.

Oh, there's cats all right, but as someone pointed out, the environment is a tad harsh. The Nordic Tunneling Cat has evolved to survive in the snowiest environment. Ever been on one of the mountain trails and seen a rabbit doing "crazy Ivans" for no apparent reason? There's your answer. So...they're there, you just can't see them as they merrily tunnel past you in the snow.

LOL you've never tried to break up a cat fight have you? Let me tell you they're a lot meaner than they look and can do quite a bit of damage.

House cats are technically Khajiits, they reside mostly in Elsweyr. Khajiits don't think of them as "pets", more like little brothers or sisters, so if they came to Skyrim, they'd have to be with their sibling. And seeing as the only Khajiits in Skyrim are merchants and guards for the merchants, so I doubt they would bring their vulnerable sibling into a world as dangerous as Skyrim.

1. Electricity has only been harnessed by means of magic, they have discovered no other way to put it towards technological advancement.
2. Girls have bras and panties, though they look more like a bikini top and granny panties, guys just have a loin cloth.
3. They're are hawks that fly around.

In one area I found a room with 4 sections partioned off with half-walls. In each of these "stalls" was a small bench and a bucket. Also there are hawks you can kill. Their feathers are an alchemical ingredient. Lastly, there are carts all over the place with wheels. They usually have heads of cabbage in them.

the cabbage heads being knocked over MIGHT be a little easter egg from the cartoon show avatar the last airbender, a guy with a cart of cabbages seemed to always get his cart and crop destroyed no matter where he went.

could have sworn i saw a secluded alcove in a bandit cave somewhere with a conspicuously placed bucket right in the middle, looked a lot like a makeshift... um... parchment reading station, lol

wish i could remember where i saw that, might have been near the start of the game.

As I've said a million times, its a testament to the game that people even expect these things.

You think anyone is on the Mass Effect forums wondering where all the space-cats are?

I remember in one of the historical books they talked about how the common house cat was actually a very talented spell caster...
