Just purchased Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition)

Hello, all.

I just recently got back into gaming on consoles (PS3). Well, to be honest, it was only one game...Skyrim. Last night was the first time I ejected the disc since 11.11.11. Over 600 hours and close to 57 levels later, I have unfortunately exhausted what was an awesome experience (even with the bugs and glitches).

Although I have not played any R.P.G.'s on consoles since Skies of Arcadia on the Sega Dreamcast, I still would and do follow the industry. I knew about Oblivion (even if I really had no grasp of T.E.S., Tamriel, or Nirn for that matter). After playing Skyrim, joining this forum, and then reading about Oblivion, I purchased the G.O.T.Y. last night.

Now, as you all know, this version of Oblivion comes with Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. So, my question to you all is:

Do I have to download anything from the internet to get theses expansions to work? There is an option in the menu system to connect to the internet. With all the problems that Skyrim has on the PS3 (I still am running update 1.05 because of the problems with the latter updates), I hesitate to download anything that will ruin my experience.

Also, I am curiously thinking if I should develop the same character I had in Skyrim (Dunmer, Archer, One Handed, Sneak, Thief)? Maybe his distant relative? Just a thought...

Thank you all for your time.

Oblivion has nowhere near the issues that skyrim has. I too started the goty last week on ps3. No patches to download, content is on disk. Just after the install you are ready to go. Since my character was of dark elven ancestry, I made him again in oblivion, just a 200 years younger him. The character generator is an abomination maker, but if you toy with the settings for a while, you can get a cool looking character. Welcome to oblivion. It's awesome, with tons more customization options. Leveling is a bit trickier than in skyrim, so I would recommend checking out the uesp guide on oblivion leveling, very helpful.

Thanks a lot, Grimraven. Question about Birthsigns. Do you select that during character creation, or before you leave the sewers? I do not remeber having the option at the beginning.

Before you leave the sewers. An old English guy in a robe will ask you about it.

Just before you approach the sunlit exit from the sewers, make a new save. That way if you ever want to start a new character, you can use the save and edit opportunity it gives you just before you exit. That way you don't have to play through the tutorial everytime.

Thanks, friend.

Good advice.

If these questions seem like they have obvious answers, they probably do. I find myself in a situation that the version of the G.O.T.Y. that I purchased (new) did not come with an instruction manual...
