Just Purchased the game already messed up

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 4:00 pm

Hello, I just bought my copy of FO3 GotY edition for my laptop, running vista home premium, now before anyone says it's my computer thats the problem, I run Dragon Age: Origins on the same computer with NO PROBLEMS, I installed the game everything seemed fine, then the second I hit new game, it goes to a loading screen for like 2 seconds then crashes, I have installed the patch (1.7) and Games for Windows Live (3.0) as well, and none of this has changed, I don't get the "error cannot find ordinal 5306 in xlive.dll" anymore, but the game still doesn't work, and I'm really agitated that 55 dollars could have gone for nearly 2 subscription times to World Of Warcraft, which is worth more time than this piece of [censored] GAME!

Any REAL and I mean [censored] REAL!!! answers or fixes, email me here, h4ppyh4ck3r@hotmail.com or 123stfu@live.com

I was considering to ridicule you in some way, but your username and email addresses already manage that quite sufficiently.

In any regards, make sure that you installed the latest http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/live/Pages/livejoin.aspx(currently 3.1).
There's also a Games for Windows Live disabler to be found http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1086.

You need to calm down. Anyone that has played games on PC must surely know that you need patience. If you do not have that, then you should have paid for the console Game of the Year Edition, although their copy is about $80 bucks.

He speaks the truth though - despite being GotY edition, it's still terribly buggy and could still use lovin from Bethesda. Unfortunately, they never gave it much patch lovin to begin with (most patches being for DLC support and additional trophies/achievements), so play at your own risk.

Sir Hackalot, here's the best "troubleshooting" advice you'll ever get:

If you have any problems with Fallout 3, uninstall, clean from registry, make sure the folder is absolutely gone, delete all saves, and start from scratch. That is the only surefire way to MAYBE fix a problem Fallout 3 is giving you.

All the talk that goes on in these forums about posters "being too angry" or "needing to post a dxdiag" or "PC games are buggy by nature" are a bunch of red herrings. When it gets down to it, Fallout 3 is a poorly coded mess with a good game buried beneath it, and Bethesda isn't going to be fixing it anytime soon (if ever). The DLC included on the GotY has several problems of its own, you might get corrupted save data, you might have questgiving NPCs disappear and never be seen again, so much can go wrong, and they aren't addressing it.

Advice: Don't buy another Bethesda title. They do not care for their customers.

Sorry for your problems, but I'm mildly amused when I read all the posts from users with higher-end machines constantly having problems with FO3. At the risk of bragging, my machine is a home-built, almost 8-year-old desktop PC and it runs the game quite nicely. My system:
P4 2.4 Ghz CPU, ASUS P4B266-C mobo, 2 GB RAM, Xp Pro SP 3, Radeon X1650 Pro w/512 MB RAM, SB Audigy MP3+ Sound Card. Standard 350 GB HDD and CDR Burner/Players. About as 'vanilla' as you can get.

I run the game on 1280x1024 resolution with fairly high settings. Once in a great while, after several hours of steady gaming, I might get tossed to the desk-top. Could be a memory leak or over-taxing my system. Never had a corrupt save (I have hundreds of saves) or refusal to load.

What with the posters with problem running the game. There is nothing special about my and it about two years and it cost me $1500 and done $1000 of updates like replacing power supply, graphics cards, Operating Systems, put a extra hard drive because of W7 and leaving the other as storage and upgraded my ram from 2 to 4 G and I runs the game fine. The only thing I have not replace is the mother board which is a cheap Gigabyte with only one PCIe slot for the graphic card. It runs the game good.

I'm playing others like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Giants with no hassles.

the GOTY version already has the PATCH (1.7) built in. do another clean install, DO NOT download the patch from the main site.
also GFWL tries to download the patch for your GOTY edition to, my suggestion is not to use GFWL when playing the GOTY version
of FALLOUT 3.

Advice: Do not rant or give unconstructive "advice". That makes you fair game for the moderators.

If you had actually asked for advice with the problem you are experiencing, you would have been advised to update Games for Windows Live from Microsoft's site, since doing so corrects that problem.

Thread closed, since it no longer has a purpose compatible with the forums.
