Just a quick plea for the setting of Elder Scrolls VI

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 10:44 am

If anyone at Bethesda happens to read this and you guys aren't completely past the planning phase yet... please consider setting the game in Black Marsh, or at least Elsweyr. I could go on and on but I'll keep it short.

Morrowind was amazing because Vvardenfell was such a unique and alien setting that fantasy gamers hadn't seen before. Barren harsh landscape, dust everywhere, giant mushrooms, multiple moons, drab color palette somehow strangely beautiful, locals hate you. Huge success, and to please all the casual fans that were gained Oblivion was pretty much just a generic medieval times setting in Cyrodiil. Loved the game, that's not my point. Skyrim is a more interesting setting, but it's still just kind of fantasy Braveheart (Game of Thrones?) style we've seen before.

You have these two incredibly unique beast races in your games/lore (we've seen Orcs in a million games) and I think it would be a good idea to make them the focal point of the next game. Black Marsh borders Morrowind and Cyrodiil, perfect for tying in storylines. Please give us a dark, dirty, gritty, swampy Argonian game. I realize Black Marsh is pretty isolated and there wouldn't be a lot of diversity there as far as other races, but that would be cool. Back to Morrowind style where the local population hates you and doesn't want you there.

I would also settle for bounding through Elsweyr with my clan of Khajiit on the backs of giant feral cat mounts. You've pleased regular high fantasy fans the past two games, now use your unique beast races to please the hardcoe fans while surprising casual fans by giving them something they didn't know they wanted.

Very, very unlikely. Having the majority of the NPCs you interact with be human/elf just makes better business sense. People want to interact with familiar seeming people in an unfamiliar world. Or at least I suspect that's the case. You'll notice they have only done one non-human game so far, and the dunmer are still pretty human looking.

It should be some place with a desert, mainly because that's one of the setting that hasn't been featured.

I wouldn't say a beast-land setting necessitates beast-land people. With time-skips, you can justify anything to make the residents of a beast-land location filled with a more diverse people.

For example, Black Marsh might have been the sight of war of colonization between the Empire and someone else, and as a result, plenty of Imperials or other races now reside in Black Marsh. This could even be worked into a large storyline of the threat of Argonians being wiped out.

See I'm the opposite. I crave wanting something alien. I use to play Halo. Want to know my favorite game? Halo 2. Because the Elites were something completely inhuman to us. They didn't look like us. They weren't human. They were completely alien. And I love alien worlds. I love places that aren't like us. I'd love to see worlds that were inhuman.

I can't imagine a TES game actually being set IN a beast race province. It'd just be stupid. Everyone walking around as a Reptile or a Cat lol? That'd be a stupid game, sorry.

Like Boomboy has said, who knows what happens 20-200 years in Tamriel. Maybe the Empire/Thalmor expand and there's your good reason why there are elves/humans there. Also reading through uesp it already states there are settlements of other races well established in the beast regions already.

I agree. I think, why bother even making up all the lore and history for the alien lands without ever going there? Morrowind was the most unique setting so far, but I think Elsweyr or Black Marsh would totally rock. I vote for Elsweyr because it's the Khajiit homeland, and I for once would like to see the Khajiit in their native environment and place of power instead of always being the downtrodden minority.

I would love a TES set in Elswyr. Khajiit are one of my favorite races and it sounds like a really interesting setting.

I would like to burn Black Marsh to the ground. Not so much be stuck there for an entire game, though..

Damn right son. If not Valenwood, I'd like Elsweyr or Black Marsh.

Valenwood because the wood elves need some love, and more help shedding the eternal visage of a 'joke race' that Oblivion seems to have given them. Bethesda, when you announce one of these three provinces, I'll have a feeling we'll about to be VERY close.

Bethesda does swamp well. Fallout 3's Point Lookout and Oblivion's Shivering Isles. I loved all the root barrow dungeons.

Well, we already did Daggerfall. So that leaves Elsweyr...?

Let's face it, they are probably never going to make Elsweyr or Black Marsh the main setting for a game, however, Valenwood maybe? And since Valenwood borders Elsweyr and they are both relatively small provinces, maybe both of them could feature in one game?

While having everyone run around as pointy-eared hairdressers isn't stupid at all? (Sorry, chanelling my inner Orc...)

I think it could be a success, but as the previous post said, business logic dictates they lose a million sales or more, so it's unlikely.

I think Summerset Isle is the leader for TES 6, High Rock in 2nd place, and Summeret/Valenwood 3rd.

I'd be happy with any location that hasn't been used, but I think the Thalimor intrigue makes Summerset a front runner. Pure speculation, obviously. Unfortunately we won't know for 3+ years.

Lore wise,
Black Marsh is very likely to be the next setting for the Elder Scrolls. It all makes sense.

The Thalmor are slowly conquering all of Tamriel, and Argonia would be pretty much the only province capable of defending themselves agaisnt the Thalmor. They're on par with them.
The elves would probably leave it for last, so there'd be a lotta refugees from other races in there, allowing plenty of room for non-Argonian player characters and NPCs.

Both Alinor [land of the Thalmor] and Argonia were the only provinces capable of scaring the daedra off their lands long before Martin Septim even had a chance to end the Oblivion Crisis.

Besides, Argonia has a long history of being unconquerable. It was the only province the mighty Tiber Septim himself failed to conquer after countless failed attempts, and he was only able to get them to join the Empire through an agreement.

Plus, it would have the same alien-ish feel of Morrowind.

exactly why i say it should be in black marsh cause after two rather drab games its time to go somewhere crazy and with the next gen of consoles which supposedly are decently powerful im sure they can get the marsh to look great.

when i hear the khajit talk aout elswyr i really wanna check it out. think of the variety of new creatures we could fight. we would have more reptiles since its in the desert. although i never understood why cat people would live in a desert... anywho. im sick of bears and wolves, lets do a giant snake or lizard. although im terrified of snakes, i'll take it!

I think there's a good chance we may eventually get a game set in a beast Race region but chances are the plot will be something where the "Canon" Character is either a Human or an Elf, simply as stated before, it's just better for Marketing that way.

I like that Idea a lot. I don't think there's a golden rule that it has to be one province per game. Heck, for all we know the next game will be set outside of Tamriel somewhere else on Nirn.
