Just realised.. Mages are ridicolous..

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:01 am

Just curious how you think a non-mage is any better in terms of 'variety'. Lets see.. you can swing your weapon or shoot a bow.. Wow.. whole two options! Yes you can upgrade weapons and what not but playstyle is the same. With the mage at least you have a variety of play styles and strategies.

You can poison, you can power attack, you can sneak attack, you can enchant your weapons, you can bash, you can block. etc. :flamethrower:

I think it would have been cool to have melding of spells, i.e one hand have spell 1 (say fireball) the other hand spell 2 (say an oakflesh or something) and then combined dual cast it adds a fire resistance buff to yourself.

That way you can still have increased amount of spell effects but still limit the # of spells available.

I do think more spells could be added though - as said before perhaps this could be in a DLC ? Would make sense from a strategic content release plan

Pure Mages as a whole are not bad. Its destruction and the many problems revolving around it that's the problem. Coupled with a bare bones spell/effects list and lack of spell creation, magic diversity is a lot more underwhelming than in previous games. So much that magic is pretty much done for after1-2 magic builds. A problem that the other games simply didnt have since spell creation allowed for so much customization.

Im sorry you arent having fun as a Mage. I for one, am having a blast with my Conjurer/illusionist mage. Lots of fun to be had with those 2 schools!

People, people, people.. Just wait for the mods - I agree that Beth really did [censored] this one up, but

I thought I'd absolutely hate it, but I like it more than stealth/melee combined. I guess it's just your taste.

And 3 atronachs? Is that it? Horrible is what it is...

I'd like to introduce you to dead thrall!
they silce, they dice, they do anything (almost) they did in life!
an human enemy giving you a hard time? wish could have a companion like them!1
now you can! kill them an raise them from death and have them fight for you permanently!
possibilities are endless! 2

1 some enemies are to powerful to dead thrall
2 possibilities are not really limitless, but are still pretty high

results may vary

Concerning the lacking variety of robes: I agree. Except for the archmage robe, they basically look all the same. Psijic Robes look nice, but as far as I can tell they are not available in game, although they are in the item database and have working meshes/textures.
And all robes you find have a similar -magicka cost bonus. Why are there no robes with fire/frost/shock resistance, for example? :sadvaultboy:

The most recent patch made elemental resistance useless. Thanks, Beth.

But i was able to only use the archer tree and still own people.... but if i use only the destruction tree there is no way i can survive..

You're joking right?! I'm haiving a blast playing as a Spell Sword, and there is plenty of Spells, you just need to find 'em.

But that is just nonsense.
Not the part about you having a blast, Im sure, but the 'plenty' of spells.
Its just not true.

Most of the spells arent even usable late game.
Fire stream or rune at level 50? Might as well be throwing pinecones.
I havent come across a single useful master yet, the charge time, mana cost and low duration ensures youre always better off using a lower level spell.

Secondly, if you look at the pre-made spells of Oblivion, which had lousy magic for a TES game, you will see that in Skyrim not even half is left.
So many effects are just gone and the pre-made spells that are left are a pain to use and not that useful.
(Why must I recast my magelight every 60 seconds? Why cant I cast waterbreathing where I need it, underwater? Why cant I cast oakflesh on my companion?)

No, the magic has been removed from TES.
Its a serious shame and highly unbelievable but its true, Dragon Age 1 has better magic than Skyrim, a TES game.

With a mage, you can paralyze, you can plant mines, you can blast from a distance with any three flavors, summon creatures to fight for you, summon swords to stab people with, slow enemies down with frost, leave other mages sad by electrocuting the magicka away from them, dual-cast spells, stagger enemies with gouts of frost, flame, or lightning, and turn invisible, all while turning Iron Ore into Gold.

You serious?

Fortify destruction 25% x 4 = God.

You do that in heavy armor = Invincible God.

That must be some sort of forum law ... everytime somebody has problem with magic there is a person suggesting to abuse enchanting.

But to be able to do that you need ALL the trees... And with only 81 points in total to spend.. thats not so fun

I'm definitely disappointed with the magic in Skyrim. If you're a warrior or someone who doesn't use much magic, it might seem like there's a rather large variety of spells. BUT if you actually use magic as a primary part of your play style you understand that the spells are all very basic.

There is no "glass-cannon" in Skyrim above certain levels....unless you're an archer without much health.

If I'm going to play a mage, I want to play a real mage who wears robes and kills people with destruction magic. I feel like warriors and thieves and assassins get more out of magic, and probably enjoy it more (non destruction magic). So my new character is a sneaky dunmer who specializes in illusion magic.

I would love to play a mage again, and hopefully with some DLC that becomes a possibility in the future.

Guess no one gets that magic has something else other then damage output.

It has..Well..This thing known as..Effects.

I'm a fire mage but I bet just using ice magic would be better then using Melee, against another melee type.

Hell, place a rune down summon a familiar, put on a cloak and combo the hell out of people with magic.

But who wants to do that eh? We just want to repetitively spa the same spell. /sarcasm
