Is it just me, or is Red dead redemption really boring?

The first play through was amazing. And the multiplayer as long as you had friends to blow up....

I found RDR underwhelming, especially since it was one of the few games I paid full price for (I almost never buy new games). It was fun, but the game seemed shallow and really just underwhelming. I thought the missions were repetitive and involved too much going from Y to Z (although the conversations in between mostly made up for that). I think the game could have been helped a lot if there was a bigger scale of things to obtain. The way you got weapons was too linear, and was mostly a straight upgrade, meaning you always had the best weapon for the job. Money was way too easy to obtain and there wasn't near enough to buy. I also thought it was a bit daft to give you the 2nd best horse in the game after only a handful of missions into the game. The game kind of tricks you by giving you, relatively, so much to do. When you look at it in perspective though, you really had no reason to do most of the things they offered (side missions were rehashed and given randomly, and only served to give you money (worthless) and to get outfits (mostly worthless), the mini games were badly implemented and forced, hunting was uninvolved and worthless, the RPG/inventory elements were under used and as soon as something was unlocked I always had enough money to max myself out instantly, I could go on).

I did like the sandbox elements, and its always fun killing bandinos (especially online coop, competitively it was kind of lame), but it just got too stale too fast for me.

Does anyone else agree? I mean, does anyone actually enjoy timed escort missions? I don't know anyone that enjoys them and that's pretty much how I'd describe RDR.

Ha ha. Harsh but well done. Alot of thing to do in the game just very little reason to do them. But in all honesty, what other western themed game can compete with RDR? Not a rhetorical question.

I need to watch more of those zero punctuation video.

Edit: Actually I don't. That twit uses the same schtick for every game he reviews. Does he like gaming or just complaining about stuff. I guess he's really hitting his demographic.

Like most sandbox games, RDR is a great deal of fun for the first 10 hours or so. After that you got tired of the repetitiveness of the game and it's not nearly as fun any more. GTA and a whole lot of other sandbox games have the same issue.

At least, this is what happens to me and most sandbox games, hence why I don't play many of them anymore even though I was a huge sandbox fan back in the 90s. Elite II: Frontier and TES2: Daggerfall are still easily the sandbox games I've played the most.

The best part of RDR for me was just wandering around, doing nothing in particular. Just sitting atop a cliff on my horse, staring dramatically into the distance.

Haha, I agree with everything he said :D I like his reviews, he often picks up and remarks on details that the mainstream reviews don't.

Wat,

If you actually pay attention Yahtzee offers some pretty valid points about game design, whilst also managing to be hilarious.

I think what did it is that this should be my perfect game. I love 3rd person, atmospheric games. The whole concept made me think that this would be the best game ever!

Somebody touched upon it earlier. All the mission feel like A to Z. 'Take this wagon to the port before sundown' Or 'Go to this cave and shoot all the bandits'

There really isn't very much variety in terms of gameplay and I don't feel involved in the game world. I almost feel like I'm on the set of a movie. It doesn't seem that believable.

Eh, it's just disappointing...because I want to love it, but I find myself looking at my sats and willing for the game completion % to draw nearer and that's not a good thing for a game.

I loved Red Dead Redemption.
It it is currently the only game I've ever pre-ordered and picked up on game day and I havn't regret a single cent.
Sure money was pretty useless but that's the same in all R* games

Well I had fun for a few hours but got bored pretty fast. Not enough was happening for me in that big wasteland and the few instances where someone was in trouble or something repeated way too fast. I might pick it up used sometime in the future to play the zombie DLC but I don't know.

To each their own. I personally love Red Dead Redemption. Great story, writing, superb characters, beautiful atmosphere, great graphics, solid gameplay, trains are far better then the GTA subways, they made it fun to run around and procrastinate missions, every western movie cliche I can think of is included (other then hanging), etc.

I think the only time RDR got boring was when it ended. Other then that it was a blast the whole way through, not to mention Undead Nightmare and the great multiplayer.
RDR seems to just be one of those games no one can agree on.

Agreed. His d-baggery is just his thing. It is used to make the video more entertaining than the regular spoken review. The complaints he raises about certain games are almost always valid. Even though he may seem overly critical at times (mostly in joking fashion) it is always easy to tell when he really enjoyed a game. I like the man.

Eh, I need to plough through and finish it. Does anyone know how much I have left if I just escorted the young Mexican girl to the port before sundown?

It says I'm like 30% through, but I need to finish this game to really give a valid, full opinion on it.

Heh ha. Though he seems to get a lot of feedback that suggests some viewers find it difficult to tell whether or not he likes a game. That's just funny for a game critic. I've bought and avoided games based on his reviews, lol, which are often reflected by other critics in their reviews, but theirs are written in a way that suggests they are the Gods of Videogames and their rhetoric is a must-read and they MUST know everything about video games because their opinions happen to be in print. :D

Yahtzee's Fallout 3 review of "Yeah it's alright" was exceptional. lol Heh. His http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/2435-Fallout-New-Vegas review put me on a roflcopt0r straight to lol Island. ^_^

How in the hell is the multiplayer fun? It's basically GTAIV's mp and well we know how that turned out.
