Is it just me, or is Red dead redemption really boring?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:16 am

So I bought RDR last year and got about half way through, when I then moved abroad to work. I came back last week and I have tried to get back in to it. I have noticed that 90% of the missions involve you escorting a wagon through the desert and fighting off bandits. Or riding your horse alongside a wagon....and fighting off bandits.

It's a great concept and the game definitely has it's positives. But it seems like the mission structure is limited and unimaginative. I just find myself yawning constantly whilst playing. The graphics and voice acting is top notch and the world is well realised, but i's BORING AS HELL!

Does anyone else agree? I mean, does anyone actually enjoy timed escort missions? I don't know anyone that enjoys them and that's pretty much how I'd describe RDR.

I loved the story missions. It was definitely my GotY. However, once the story is over there isn't much to do. I did eventually get 100%, but the last 20% or so wasn't all that fun. As long as the story lasts the game is excellent.

I loved every minute of it. I'm playing through Undead Nightmare at the moment, it's equally awesome.

OP - Yes, It's just you :P

Personally, I think that old farts like me enjoy a change of pace once in a while from these on-rails in your face shooters like COD-Black Ops. The setting is also what makes the game unique. I can honestly say I've never played another game set in 1909. I think the stunning landscape warrants the slow gameplay. How many other games, aside from maybe the Elder Scrolls, give you a chance to sit back and take in the atmosphere without a monster or some armed to the teeth soldier jumping out of a closet and forcing you to ignore that special detail.

It's also one of those games that can be played creatively (doing things beyond what the manual tells you, you can do), lik hog-tieing a bandit and placing them on the rails in front of an oncoming train. Or taking the meat from a dead animal and putting it on a hog tied victim so the cyotes can have lunch.

You can do that?

I'm 40 hours in and I didn't notice that.

Just you. I loved every minute of the game. The only missions I can say I didn't like are the racing ones. So I guess I lied, that's a few minutes I didn't like.

I think it's just you dude. I loved every single minute of every story mission, every side mission, and every minute of just screwing around outside of doing the missions.

the only thing that bugged me it that your hat stayed on at all times even when you were shot off your horse.

The ranching/roundup and cattle drive missions are boring and a pain in the donkey but otherwise the fighting, expansiveness of it and the twists and turns of the story are good compared to the mass of tasteless games we have at our disposal.

Also, does anyone know if I made a new game on RDR could I skip the ranching missions, or are they not seperate missions that I can skip? Because I've been wanting to replay that game for ages and those missions are what has been keeping me back.

I don't think you can skip them. What happened to me in GTA is if I tried to stay away from one person's missions and continued with the rest, nobody else's name would be on the map unless you started doing the missions you were trying to avoid from a certain person. Does that make sense? It made better sense in my head. I agree with you though the only reason I did the ranching missions was to get my lasso.

Solution: Play the ranching missions, and then make a save from after you beat them and start all "new" games from that save.

Red Dead Redemption is... meh. Uninteresting, repetitive, third person. I'm no fan of Wild West games anyway.

No, it's not just you. After about 10-12 hours gameplay I lost interest and gave up. It looks nice but it felt a bit soulless and dull to me.

No game is liked by everyone. No matter how much people rave about a game, there's always a chance you'll get unlucky and be one of those who dislike it.

No you cant drop the meat or anything, he means bait, buy some bait, put it on the person watch the cougers eat (THEN SHOOT THAT [censored] MENACE OF AN ANIMAL) only thing worse than a couger is a zombie couger.

Personally I am having a blast replaying it, I put the aim on expert, turn off autosave and get rid of the minimap, its much more fun and chalenging. I wish there was a dlc with a realism mode requireing sleep/food/water... Being able to swim would be great too.

Kinda felt the same way. The game as a whole just felt rather stale to me. The gameplay held up enough, but your right about the mission structure. Doesn't help that I wasn't impressed by any of the side missions. I didn't see what others saw I guess.

I really enjoyed it, missions and all. I go back to it every now and then to have a good saloon fight with the local drunks.

Gets kinda boring after a few hundred hours.

Though getting a 50,000 dollar bounty in the US is epic, and hiding out in Mexico.

I enjoyed the single player, finished it, and played some multiplayer for awhile when the title was really hot.

I thought it was great. Nice atmosphere, good story, great animations. But I agree some of the side mission are a bit repetitive, but it is a wild west game / GTA horse game so I knew what I was getting into.

Had a great time doing the knife a grizzly hunting challenge. There's so much little details that make the game pretty fun. Draggin people around after you lasso them, hunting, foraging, etc. Gotta love it.

I did hanker for some after game reason to play single player though. Multiplayer and its free roam environment didn't really fill that niche as I thought it would.

I thought is was amazingly fun, but I see how someone could get bored if they played it for a long. Most games are like that though.
