Just Started Oblivion - Where to Begin With Modding?

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2011 4:01 pm

Hello! I am new to the world of Oblivion. I played Morrowind and enjoyed modding with it. I am looking forward to trying it out with Oblivion. I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times, but where should I begin to start understanding modding with Oblivion? What are the best looking armour, landscapes, buildings, human looking (and maybe even advlt oriented) mods? I'm looking for any suggestions that will enhance my adventuring career here in Oblivion. I look forward to your replies.

Thanks for your time!

When you say "just started Oblivion" if you mean this is your actual first time in playing it your best bet is to give it a play through with official patches only and work out your like and dislikes, what you want changed and what you don't want changed, what you would like to improve and so on an so forth.

Adding mods straight off the bat will put you in a position where you are unable to fully appreciate what it is the mod does because you would have no idea what it was like before it was changed. So IMO give it a play through first and then come back because there are THOUSANDS of mods to choose from and you will have more of an idea on what it is your looking for :)

If you have played it just discard what I said and wait for people with their options ans opinions :)

Wrye Bash and OBMM. If youre lazy get BOSS but for me it always screws some things up so I rarely use it. Plus if you start out relatively small(or stick to overhauls instead of 200+ small mods) its easy to figure out a load order.

OBSE.

DarNUI, or Dark DarNUI.

Djangos with Natural Faces installed overtop of it. Then HGEC and Roberts V5(V4 if you cant find 5). I THINK V5 includes armor mesh replacers too. Theres and EVE_HGEC armor replacer that includes body textures and I think meshes but Im not sure about that.

If you get into world texture replacers theyre big, like over 1gig even for low res ones. I use Quarls Redemized but it doesnt cover everything.

As for gameplay Id probably just grab OOO or Frans or Warcry, or if youre feeling adventurous FCOM. Google for descriptions.
