Just started playing fo1 and 2

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 7:44 pm

I know how this will go across but anyways, i finally after way to much searching now have a copy of the fallout collection and started playing fo 1, now i started playing games when operation flashpoint was the state of the art combat game, now playing fo 1 is basically a wrist slasher, im not saying anything wrong with the game just that its soooooo old and clunky, and i was thinking maybe instead of making another fallout, why not bring the old fallouts up to date, not change the story or the game just make it like fo 3 and new vegas, and bring new people into playing it. I remember a friend giving me the original warcraft and i started playing that and about 10 minutes later stopped and uninstalled it, id just love to play it in the new format, it would make the game interesting.

It's possible to speed up combat in the options. Believe me, it's a life-saver.

There's this oil tanker in Fallout 2, that's chock-full of centaurs and wanamingos, and frankly, if I had to deal with combat at the default speed (since they all want to attack you, pretty much all at once, and there's at least 30 of the bastards), I would probably cut my wrists too.

You can also set your walk speed to "run", so you don't have to walk everywhere.

Updating the originals would be interesting, but I honestly cannot see anyone OTHER than fans doing this. If we are to see the original games anywhere in a new Fallout game, I COULD see them available through a damaged terminal the player could manipulate emulator style. Something tells me that won't happen either.

I'm sure if someone had a STAGGERING amount of time on their hands, they could remake the original Fallout at least by just dubbing over characters with the original voice acting and making the original towns.

I think no one has that much time on their hands.

If Bethesda would "update" Fallout 1 and 2, they would remove so much. I bet some moderator will edit my post, but child killing would be removed. They'd probably redesign several towns, remove a bunch of NPC's and all that which would make fans pretty angry. And really, the graphics ain't that bad and you can speed up the combat so it's acceptable. Also, all the cool killing animations......

And it's not just about major changes but about minor changes too.
Like yknow at Vault City, the second gate into the actual city right?
Well, picture Bethesda redoing that gate in 3D, it won't look the same.
It might be a decimeter too high or too low or maybe the gate's design is slightly different et cetera.
And this will happen with everything.
So going into Broken Hills in FO2 and then in FO2U you'd notice that the town just... Don't look the same...
Maybe it's just me caring about that though but if they're ever going to redo the earlier Fallouts then everything needs to be 100% spot on for me to find them enjoyable.
From the slightest chair to a New Reno sign, everything needs to be to perfect scale.

But I would like them to release the games (along with Killap's patch AND restoration project) on Steam, PSN and XBLA as arcade games. (No other changes except for Killap's' stuff.

No. I am against updating the Originals. They got away with things that can't or will not be done by Bethesda. They als cover large parts of States, having all the locations from the games so close together will svck. Leave the Originals alone!

This, I would not find a remake enjoyable unless everything was EXACT.

A remake that's good?
I think Resident Evil 1 has a good remake.
Haven't played the original Resident Evil 1 and only the remake but as far as I know the remake is like the first one only better controls and graphics.

Real Myst was a pretty good remake of Myst, so good remakes are possible. Unfortunately remaking Fallout 1/2 to be like Fallout 3 and New Vegas would not yield good results. Real Myst was just Myst with a face lift and a new age tacked on after finishing the main game, remaking Fallout 1/2 to be like their successors would be an extreme departure from what they were designed to be.

I don't think they would necessarily take away content from the originals. If anything they would probably add to it. New Vegas kind of seemed like Bethesda's answer to the original fan's dislike of Fallout 3. This tells me that they aren't stupid enough to piss off the long time fans of the series too much. That being said, while remakes using the Gamebryo engine is a pretty cool idea and I am more than open to it, they wouldn't be the same game. Enough said.

i doubt it would work the games would have to be massive without a map node system epecially fallout 2 but i mean in fallout 1 you have even have the ruins of LA they would need to build that in 3d detailed, ghouls also looked cooler in the old games http://images.wikia.com/fallout/images/4/40/FO01_NPC_Set_N.png > http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101229215018/fallout/images/thumb/8/85/Gob.jpg/684px-Gob.jpg ... the games were also alot more detailed and the special points meant something try writing dialogue for every characters reaction to you if you have 1 int, or are a slaver, or something, each game would be a massive undertaking and in the end you its not worth it fallout 3 ripped off enough of fallout 1 and 2 lol

They are both Black Isle masterworks ~flawed, sure... but the only RPG's I've played that come close also from Black Isle; (With CD-Projekt's Witcher ranking close 2nd to Planescape & BG2).

They should not be "updated" IMO; and as others have stated... They would not be able get away with even the implied content in today's market environment, and with hyper realistic visuals.

I disagree I think it would yield good results! The idea of exploring the towns and areas in fallout1/2 fallout3/NV style makes me have an orgism. I think it would be [censored] awesome! Also if they did a remake like that they should trash all the new guns they added in fallout/NV. If modders can create the classic weapons pack mod, a video game company can surely do the same if not better.

But in all reality I think they'd screw it up.

I don't know but when I saw that video it made me think of the wasteland mod for half life 1.

Anybody ever play the wasteland mod for half life?
http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=HLMotw.Detail&id=123

This mod had the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Pancor_Jackhammer_%28Fallout_2%29 in it.

Too bad this mod isn't steam friendly, it was made for WON before steam came out, they never updated this mod to work with steam :( Otherwise I'd make a video or show some screen shots. That's how old school I am I played half life multiplayer on WON way before steam was ever thought of...

It sounds better in theory.

Indeed.

I used to play Homeworld and Ground Control on WON net servers.

Alas, the secondary links don't work. I have Half Life CD version, and would like to have tried the Wasteland mod.
