I just started playing the Fallouts!

I thought that was only for F1?

that was IIRC do to the way data is stored, once the integer gets so high the game ends or some such. FO2 uses the same engine hence the same limitation. You'll never hit the limit during "Normal" play. Unless you spend abnormal amounts of time grinding encounters and ignoring the quests. I can usually get enough cash if you do all the quests in the Den. Plus selling the loot from those quests. Do you have the restoration project installed? Helping whats her name(the rival of the guy guarding the church for the slavers) can net you a big chunk of the cash you need.

the restoration project is awesome, for instance with the project, you actually get to go to Tylers house and finish off the rest of the gang. (it adds a whole new area to the Den, Called residential) you can do things like set up an orphanage to get those thieving kids away from the doors. :P anyway you should mostly have all the cash you need, if you collected most of the stuff you can collect from the quests in klamath, and the quest in the Den and sold what you aren't going to use. You can try and poke your head out into the wastes and try and hit a bandit type encounter to get more weapon to sell.

I really don't recommend the Restoration Mod for your first play through, if all it did was actually add to the game maybe, but it doesn't do just that. The RP also makes unnecessary changes to the rest of the game, for example, the door to Vic's back room is locked with the RP as opposed to being unlocked in the vanilla game. You also can't add mods to a game that's already in progress. If you install the Restoration Project you won't be able to load your current saved game.

I also don't recommend it because it's really not that good. Granted what is good or not is subjective, but I found most of the RP's 'new' content rather lackluster. Your mileage may vary, though.

And you'll have to start over again - vanilla saves will not be compatible with FO2RP installed, AFAIK. I really like FO2RP but I wouldn't recommend the restoration project on the first play-through because it changes alot in the game and it still has a couple of flaws, even the latest version of FO2RP. You can install Killap's patch however it doesn't change the original game lay-out much it only patches a few bugs etc, although I don't know if it will affect vanilla saves. Killap's restoration project and patch are two completely different things BTW. If you're planning to install FO2RP you don't need to install his patch.

Also, finish all the quests in Klamath and life for your character will get easier from the Den and beyond. Tip: the mileage thingie for the car is also located in Klamath. My first goal is to get the highwayman fixed. After fetching the car thingie in Klamath plus completing the Den's quests (don't forget to talk to Smitty) travel to Vault city, stop in a unknown town before entering VC, check out what's going on overthere and after that do the VC & Gecko Quests - head back to Den to fix car. Traveling the world map will be a breeze from now on and last but not least the highwayman includes a spacious storage compartment to store all your junk. Yay! A house on wheels - cannot be decorated however. :P

ps: you can leave the car part in the trunk before heading out to VC, it will save precious inventory space - handy when you don't care about followers.

you can do things like set up an orphanage to get those thieving kids away from the doors.

There is a way (a little cheat using the game mechanics) to avoid those pesky children:

Spoiler
Walk past them in combat mode

+1

I agree that its not up to the same standards as the vanilla game, but I still think its good, and the improvements made by Killaps unofficial patch (as opposed to the restoration mod) are almost essential for fun play (you kids today complain about NV crashing.... Try setting Dynamite in the Vanilla Fo2 game, or try to work out what happened to your car boot after it disipears....).

Why?

Well I figure you want to experience as much as possible right?
Then don't get him killed before entering Vault City, there's some dialogue there.

He's above average. The fatness doesnt really seem to effect him, but he can use all the armours and a wide selection of weapons. He's also one of the few companions that can accompany you though the final location (if he's armoured right) without casing the alarms to go off.

He also levels up (random chance when you do) a few times.

Haha, the famous dynamite crash. Jeez, i hated that! And back then I had no internet to work it all out.

You forgot the disappearing items in magic bag BTW. Killap deleted the bag from the game due to the scripting errors.

You should get it after you've finished FO2 once though.

Agreed, especially to make a comparison between the two.

----------

Killap did a great job and his patch is a must. Also, everything in his RP mod is "according" to what the developers left out when FO2 was released. Although a lot of tinkering had been done to the EPA level for example hence all the versions of FO2RP. I completed FO2 Vanilla without a walkthrough but when I installed FO2RP I was definitely confused how to get myself through EPA, fixing the hologram quest was intensely puzzling compared to the standard vanilla quests. That's one of the reasons I don't recommend it for first time players.

Oh well, look at it like this you'll be playing Fallout 2 more than once. Twice as much fun. :)

Ok ill try he seems a little fat and not the best companion too.

Yup, he's avarage. Although he gets relatively good in combat after a while especially in small arms.

If you want a svcky companion try Myron, baby! :P

Do some quests to earn some money and buy some from a trader in The Den. (I think he overcharges you for items though.)
