Just started skyrim: Nord

Hey guys, im new on this forum and also to skyrim. I'm a warror- Nord, and want some beginners tips from you guys. I dont wanna spend my skill points all wrong and ruin my character so i have to start over again. Im lvl 5 at the moment. It's really an overkill with all the different stuff you can lvl up and all the choices you make for beginners. I wanna be a strong warrior, 1h with shield and also use range a lot to fight dragons etc. So i got some questions:

i wanna be a 1h but what is best 1H or 2H?

Light or heavy armor and why? i feel like light armor is best if i wanna use range too, but heavy if i wanna do close up battles with melee.

How should i spend my lvl up points and perks? im not sure if i should spend anything in magicka?

If i have understood this right, i can choose what group of people i wanna join and that will mean a lot for my ''destiny'' and future missions. I dont even know if i may have chosen a group of people yet. So what group should i join?

Why does many of the people i meet in the open world attack me for no reason? And why do some people want me to pay them like 100 gold? I'm not good at listening to english so i dont get much of what ppl say without subtitles.

I would be so happy for answer because those question bothers me a lot

Im having a lot of fun in this game it's really awesome and i love the open world and messing around with trolls and stuff, even though they one hit me ^^

Only invest in magicka if you plan on becoming a battlemage.

As for perks, there's really no right or wrong way to go about it. Just make sure to put perks into the skills you use the most.

Join the Companions. They're an ancient warrior guild who value honour and tradition. I'm sure you'll love it.

The people who want you to give them money are called guards. You must have committed a crime. They are basically the police. :P

Ohh okay, i found a horse alone out in the woods and wanted to take it and it said ''steal horse'' and i just did it, thats probably why the guards wanted me to pay them ^^ But there are still some people not even talking to me and just starts attking me, and some people called hired thugs that comes into the city to kill me lol :P

Yeah anytime it says "steal" then thats bad, unless you plan your character to be a thief, which is absolutely acceptable in this game.

If you dont see yourself using magic at all then theres no sense in putting any points into magika. Just focus on health and stamina, being that you're a warrior. 1H and shield versus 2H is really just personal preference. You'll get alot of mixed opinions on that. Just do what you want to do. There really is no right or wrong way to do it. Just play the game. IF you ask anyone here (myself included), our first playthrough was a mess. I had no idea what I was doing. I basically used the first playthrough as a learning tool to understand how the game works. As a warrior, you'll always want to take the perks that allows you to deal more damage and also increase your armor rating. Try not to think about it too much. Just enjoy it.

And welcome to the forums. Here's your fishy stick!

This is awesome, quick and good answers ;) Yeah im gonna stop worrying and enjoy it more now but i just felt a little helpless :P

But two last questions: how do i join a group of people? doing their quests?

How do i know the difference between side quests and main quests?

The best way to tell you how to join a faction is just go to a town or city and talk to everyone. Someone will point you in the wrong direction. I dont want to give anything away here.

Keep in mind too, others here will back me on this one. Your first Skyrim playthrough is very very special. Cherrish it.

As far as which quest is which, all side quests will be under the misc quest section in your jounal.

You don't. *dun dun dun*. No, I'm kidding of course. You can always look up what the main quest names look like, and what not. But also, a lot of the longer questlines flow, as in you'll be led to the start of the next quest (or at least be told about it) by the end of another. If that makes any sense...

It doesn't matter though. Just keep piddling around, and eventually you'll find out how competent you really are!

Also try this website for builds and such. http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/group/character-building/forum/topics/the-character-build-archive

Alot of good builds and show where to put skill points for the particular playstyle you want.

Welcome friend.

I would suggest putting the first 10 points in health then the next few in stamina as health is most important for a warrior but stamina is useful to bash and power attack which is the lifeblood of sword and board or 2 handers. Magic is a waste for a warrior as are putting any perk points in the magical skills.

As for what to use, it all boils down to what you feel most comfortable with. I'm best with battleaxes and I prefer little to no armor so I can move more quickly....there's perks in both light and heavy armor that make it weightless or you can use the Steed Stone to do the same thing. Test the waters and play around until you feel what's right for you, it seems like alot to take in at first but you'll catch on soon.

Like I said, your first character will be getting a feel for the game. so if you make a mistake, learn from it. Also keep multiple saves in the event you do something that you could regret later on. There is no right or wrong answer, but there are consequences for everything you do.

I almost forgot that this is the most important thing about Skyrim, making multiple hard saves and saving often...never trust in the autosave and always be prepared for the many bugs this game has.

Yeah, at first Skyrim can be a little overwhelming, simply cause you have so much freedom in this game, as to how you play it, and being able to go anywhere and do anything, at any time. It really is hard to make a mistake in building your character, other than the 3 main stats ( magicka - health - stamina), not really a mistake but overall probably best to pick the 2 that are best for your type of character, and pretty much ignore the 3rd, doing that it is hard to mess up a character. As far as perks go, if you put a perk in somewhere and later you think it to be a mistake, you can just level the skill up to 100, make it legendary, which will reset it to 15, and give you your perks back to use however you want , and you can do that each time you get a skill to 100 !

A word of advice if you decide to take a side in the Civil War quests: Dont ask people here which side to take... It'll get bitter. Decide for yourself which side to take, and note that both sides are more than they seem and are more than an experience in one city. Ask around with the Jarls and other characters who have an opinion on the war, and decide from there.
