Is it just me or is the lighting really... off?

Seems like they used a weird or outdated method, some light sources give of real light while others clearly don't and it's as if they placed invisible light sources in some areas.

Not to mention most light sources aren't treated as items.

For example:

Messing around you can get some weird shadows seemingly be standing in odd spots relative to invisible light sources.
There seem to certain points at which different lights cast shadows, instead of having real lighting.

A shout that can knock back trolls, can't even put out a candle, let alone knock it down.

Lighting has always been an issue in TES games but compared to the rest of the game there's just something especially archaic about Skyrim's lighting, not what I'd expect from a game released late 2011.

True, this, but I have to admit I'm glad my candles don't have physics. I'm forever knocking stuff off my tables and would probably set my house on fire.
