Is it just me or is this game already dead/dying?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:34 am

So I log on Brink multiple times each day, and I always look at the server browser and see that the majority of the servers are 0/16 or 0/8. There's always a select few servers that are full, but most of them have really high ping and aren't always fun to be in. Since I want to play the game, I am forced to play with bots. I will join an empty server or a server with one person in it (There are a few of them floating around sometimes) to see if the server will fill up eventually. One hour later, not a single person has joined and the server browser is still full of empty servers. If there was anyone on the server, they'll have left after a round or two. Brink is way too new to be this empty... why does no one play this game? Do people really think it's that bad?

Brink has only been out for eight days and it's already emptying out. It looks like my fears of Brink becoming a niche game are coming true. And yes I've checked the Steam server browser, there are mostly empty servers on there too. I also check the browser are different times of day. I am absolutely certain the majority of the servers remain empty for the entire day. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah... I like Brink a lot, but now I'm really pissed off. I think I just wasted my money.

just scroll about, and youll find.
infact, dont search for server in brink.

use steam and search servers there. filter actually works, AND more importantly, you get listed up way more servers than doing it in game.

personally i run my own server. and its normally packed during the evening.

Other than that. it also depends on what time it is,

This game died once it was deemed unplayable after the first week. Things have cleared up a bit but still no where near the specs of what the community expects in a full title. Now its just die-hards and folks who simply have to live with what they bought...kinda like me until I just get the ambition to return it and get Portal 2. Also I have two friends that play it that, for reasons beyond me, are simply gaga for it.

Brink is what I have dubbed the rarely found "weekend player". Not since the days of my youth and Blockbuster have I seen a game I can entirely beat in the course of 1 rental period (typically over the weekend) and find the maximum of its enjoyment in that time. It is utterly too short with its multiplayer and ranking system offering a little bit in the way of other entertainment but ulitmately doesn't last. It would be like if Cod only had 5 levels and 10 rankings. But even then, with TDM, that Cod would present a little more enjoyment.

Ultimately Brink had some great ideas...its follow through on those ideas has a lot of promise, unforetunately we have yet to see the maturity of those ideas. Brink in its fullness is simply a beta for what is too come. If SD learns from its mistakes then perhaps here in the furture we will get what we orginally expected...but that day has yet to come. Til then...this Brink is a demo for me, nothing more.

I agree with this. More ranks/levels are definitely needed to keep people involved with this game. Yes, game play should come first, but there's no reason why more can't be added.

although i enjoy it, i think it's just lacking as a complete game. i'm sticking with it hoping that they add something major in the first dlc, and hopefully all the dlc offerings will be free, because we did get ripped off paying full price for such a lackluster game. just being honest...

Well, I've only tried a few times to find people and ended up not finding any, too. However, I didn't spend lots of time looking, though,
so there may be many we are not aware of or we have to search deeper?

I don't know why there are very little people around.

Maybe it depends on the time of day or something? Maybe they are on private matches? Maybe people play mostly on weekends or at night?
Maybe people already finished leveling up and got all of the abilities they wanted and did all of the campaigns and are bored?
Maybe it didn't retain/gain new audience?
Maybe it's the lag? (But you are playing PC, right? So I guess lag shouldn't be a problem?)
Maybe you (and I) are unlucky?
*shrug*

I don't know what this could mean.....

I wish you luck and hope you find some people someday.

I've been in either private freeplay or co-op until the lag gets fixed.

Oh Noes!

It's 9:40 on a weekday morning and I can only find four full local servers in the smallest gaming region in the world, and 12,000 people playing globally. There's NO ONE here!

So is this game a big facepalm? o.O I am really enjoying it... Maybe it's because I'm just a fan of older games that are completely alive even though they are nearly the same thing... ._.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not...?

Maybe the OP is having trouble finding full servers at his timezone or region or something? Maybe some people are playing co-op or small private groups until the lag goes away?

I think he has a legitimate question or at least has a right to ask a question. That is what a forum is for. To get confirmation, advice, answers, support, etc. ^_^

PC player that actually uses the ingame server. There are plenty of servers that are empty... just like every games that has a server browser not a big suprize. With over 1000 servers on the list do you REALLY expect them all to be busy?

If the filters worked better you could not look at the empty servers and you would find plenty... probably 400 with active playing. I never... NEVER have not found a good server (ping and active) to play on yet... so we ALL need to stop with this game is dying BS.

There's going to be a time soon where the barnet and tubes are going to be blatantly and continuously overused and it will kill off a lot more of the player base imo.

There is a serious wrist surgery tone to his post, wait, the title of his thread. Suggesting that the game is dead/dying is being rather dramatic & asking to get flamed.

Game has been out a week, the devs know what they need to fix for things to be playable and in working condition. Give it some time. DLC is out in June, so why not wait until then. Play in competitive mode, 4v4 or 5v5, there is no lag. Atleast when I play. Get a good host for 8v8 and it's been fine. Give the game some time.

Yes, as a matter of fact I do expect MOST of the servers to be busy. Take a look at almost any other popular game. The vast majority of the servers in those games ALWAYS have people in them, and most of those games are already old. To add to this, those games always have way more servers in general than Brink. Brink is eight days old and it has no one playing and even less total servers (I don't know the actual numbers but I'm counting on this being true).

Take into account that new games almost always have more people playing them than old games due to that "New game rush" that most games experience. Brink was hyped up just like any other game, but it did not receive the same amount of players. Also, 400 servers with people playing in them? Out of "Thousands" that you claim there are? Even if that's accurate, that's still ridiculously low. That's less than 40% of the servers being full. I also honestly doubt that there are 400 active servers, considering my server browser doesn't even show that much, and with the majority of servers being empty, I wouldn't be surprised to find that all of those "Thousands" of servers aren't consistently active either.

You also need to take into account location, internet quality, and Brink's piss poor net code. PC players usually don't have to worry about net code, but it's a factor nonetheless. Even since day one it has been hard for me to find a server that didn't lag. This is just the curse of living in the West Coast, but I honestly am never able to find more than 20 active servers with less than 100 ping maximum, while everyone else enjoys the luxury of hundreds of servers to play on. It honestly makes me wish that I lived in the East Coast but then I'd have too many real life problems to deal with...

Also, that guy is right. I shouldn't have to scroll to find a good server, not this early on. Brink has problems my friends.

You don't seem to be a very good at choosing what games you should buy.
