Justice system, how will crimes be dealt with?

Post » Sat Jan 18, 2014 10:43 pm

I was just wondering what kind of system they're going to have with crimes. Have they announced if it's going to be like other Elder Scroll titles, or will you even be able to get into trouble with the law? I was talking with a friend and we both thought it would be cool if you could commit a crime and if the guards failed to catch you, a bounty could be put up in that city, or zone, where other players could find out about it and then hunt you down. Does anyone else think that could be a fun idea?

They have talked about introducing a crime system when the thieves' guild is released as an update. There will be no crime at launch so steal everything you can before the update!!!

After that, if you commit a crime, you'll be sat down in a corner and made to think very hard about what you've done.

Can't do that any more with MMO's. There'll be a huge uprising about losing a small amount of time for your game :P

i loved that kind of thing in the Elder Scroll Games, like having a bad reputation in one City for whatever crime they thought i commited (ofc they were wrong). Sadly i don't see it happen in EOS because of the MMO Factor. If one is wanted by law enforcement in City A or by Faction B i can't imagine one to run around free only because he is with a group of Friends having a good reputation with said Faction. So Guards had to attack or arrest him.

Would love to see the postings in the Forum 'we could not visit Dungeon of whatever cause the Guards arrested our Healer'

When they find a way to implement even the basic system from Morrowind for that, and i mean with no exceptions cause of 'going raiding just now' or something, they would have a subscriber for life.

We don't really have any idea how this is going to be implemented yet.

I could easily see a bounty system in place. Then again... I'm not sure if you would actually be able to do something wrong to another player character and even then the wanted character would have to go into Cyrodiil for you to do anything.

A similar concept was tossed around a year ago about players being able to invoke the Black Sacrament then visited by an Assassin and purchase your enemies head.

I'd love to see a bounty system for people that commit a series of crimes.

Well I think it would be really fun if the justice system is player driven or at least semi player driven. The last week I have played an indy MMO called Rust. Quickly described its like DayZ + Minecraft. Anyway I play on a PvP server there and last night me and 4 other friends raided the other players on the server bases and robbed them blind. Think we came way with 90 wooden planks, 6000 metal fragments a really good shotgun, MP5 and a P250 and a but load of ammo. Now we just have to wait for the retaliation. However they going to need a but load of C4 to get into our base. Way are you telling us this you might wonder. Well I'm coming to my point now. I have not had that mush fun in an online game for quite some time now. The thrill of the highest was adrenaline pumping like hell as we attacked in the dawn and got away in the cover or the night. And the main reason for this is that players in this game have to take care of there own justice. (Maybe should point out that when you kill an other player in this game you can dry loot him too.)

Now for it to be fun to play a villain in ESO you can't make the justice all NPC driven as I fear that will just be too easy and in the long run a bit boring. Players have to be able to retaliate and/or participate in catching this players for it to really work. If not no one will ever get caught as long as they don't get over comfortable and ignore all game mechanics. Would be a real shame if they waist this opportunity to give ESO some fun PvP. Not that I propose it be as hardcoe as in Rust but if it was half as mush it would go a long way.

I would love this kind of thing in PvP, the players who are in the top percentage of the leaderboards or with the most kills could get 'bounties' on their heads, then it's up to the enemy faction players to take them down any way they can.

Not entirely sure how a player bounty could work in other environments though, given there's no PvP outside Cyrodiil.

Unless they make it so a challenging NPC/assassin tracks the offender down outside Cyrodiil.

Yea well for the justice system to work I think it has to be no safe zones what so ever... At lest for the most notorious criminals. Like first only city NPC guards try to arrest you like in Skyrim. Next grade of notorious level can be NPC assassins randomly spawn and attack you. After that players that find you in Cyradil will be handsomely rewarded for brining you to justice. And last level of notorious criminal behavior would be that you're permanently flagged for PvP no matter where you are in the world to any player, even your own faction. Only those that are in your group will not be able to kill you.

PS: However getting to the last notorious level should be very hard and be impossible to do by mistake.
