"Justifying Genocide":

Post » Fri Jun 14, 2013 4:53 pm

Do the Falmer of today have the right to seek vengeance against the past actions of ancient Nords by killing the Nords of today?

-Inspired by and dedicated to Good Ol' Hevnoraak

Personally, I say no, but as always, I can accommodate any and all other views and reasons to why they can or cannot. Speak, and you shall be heard. But keep your tempers in check, please.

As said before, they have no right to exact vengeance on Nords who weren't even involved with what happened. Not that it would matter. Hev said it. Genocide does not justify genocide.

Even if it did give them a right to some vengeance, what kind of bumbling idiot would you have to be to take up that right? When the last time you attacked this race, they mopped the floors with your families, why in the hell would you test them again?

If they were to exact this revenge, and kill many Nords, whatever. But nobody is allowed to complain if the Nords go genocidal again. No one. Why? Because you already got burnt once. You're a fool if you touch the fire again.

Must... refrain... from posting... pics of Snow Prince's conquest...

I'll just sit on the side-lines for a little and see if any other views and arguments pop up. Sigh...

They could, as they are gradually becoming more and more intelligent and will begin to question why they are the way they are. Not to mention the fact that they already have attacked, abducted, and killed numerous Nords, as well as all other people on the surface due to their alleged "blood-lust" and "savageness."

Edit: The quotes are for dialogue/in game references as well as my own sarcastic take on it. Personally, I think that it may have started out as random attacks, but eventually the Falmer started to wonder "Why don't we live on the surface? What makes them so high and mighty to live in the sun?" They're starting to put two and two together, in other words.

Justification is a funny thing -- you needn't look very hard to find it. That being said, I too doubt the Betrayed care very much for exacting vengeance over events they've likely forgotten about. I wonder if they can comprehend the concept of vengeance at this point, since all they seem to do is flourish in hatred.

The Nords would conquer what remains of the Snow Elves again. I've now made your pictures of conquest relevant to this thread -- post away.

Seriously if you want vengeance, just find a way to enter Sovngarde and drag all those people responsible into Oblivion. No need to harm modern Nords because all they want is a simple life and aren't the bloodthirsty people their ancestors were nor were they responsible for the tragedy that befell the Falmer.

Ha, funny, I said the same thing about justification the other day. I thought the same way too about the Falmer at first; to tell you the truth when I first played the game I thought they were pretty much just Gremlins before I started to learn more about them. Then after Dawnguard I began to suspect something more. And then I met Hevnoraak and his views on the matter, and..here we are.

Naturally, I agree with you. Though some may say the Stormcloaks (aka some modern Nords) are "bloodthirsty." I for one would not say that however.

DO NOT BRING THE CIVIL WAR INTO THIS! That being said, I think the Falmer still won't care, and the Stormcloaks as the "defiant few"

(I love that show)

I have yet to see groups of people being tortured or executed in the dozens by the Stormcloaks unlike some other factions in Skyrim. What does killing modern Nords solve when the people ultimately responsible are enjoying everlasting life drinking and eating in the Hall of Valor?

:D I'm not, just saying. I know there are some who would say that, but thankfully, they're not here yet to start that tired old argument.

Off topic: Nice avatar by the way; it's a shame that game has so many bugs though when I play it.

Well that was the whole logic behind the reason why this thread was created in the first place. In any case, the Falmer are just mindless creatures now and they will attack all regardless of them being men, mer or beast.

Ah, just go ahead and get it out of your system. It's relevant to the topic after all, and it is dedicated to you.

Agreed with the genocide does not justify genocide, but I'd like to mention that clearly the Nords of today are merely a shadow of what they were before. Look at Skyrim itself - innumerable crumbling ruins, forts that you need to capture for the Civil War questline that are basically dead and rotting, even Windhelm is in bad shape. No new cities have been built in decades if not centuries - Helgen never gets repaired and is left to rot after the beginning of the game, too. The Stormcloaks can't even fight off the Empire without their messiah doing everything for them, and it's pretty heavily implied that the Nords wouldn't be able to fight off the Thalmor without the Empire's help, either. Clearly, Skyrim and its people are barely holding to living, which is why the return of the dragons is so bad for them. I honestly think that the Falmer would win against the Skyrim of today.

The Falmer are feral savages, and I'm pretty sure they forgot about what the Nords did.

Well, like I said above, there is a possibility that they are starting to question why they are the way they are.

I don't think Falmer have the intellectual capacity to comprehend vengeance for their past..and even if they did they lack the skills to initiate an offensive

Exactly. Why do people seem to forget that the Falmers' intellect is growing? They're not just mindless monsters anymore, they're learning, creating, communicating...
