juvenile, magic and gender specific prisons

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:56 pm

i havent developed a proper opinion on most of these questions yet. except i strongly believe some places should silence magic.

u?

EDIT: note this is not so much about npc being thrown in jail but more so there presence in jail form the start of the game.

jails in oblivion where kinda sad. no one in the whole of cyrodiil commiting any crimes. you were usually one of the only ones in there.

i think prisons should be more dense and more around. imagine breaking into a jail the prisoners could either welcome you and convince u to free them or starts riotingg and raging.

Why would they bother making a prison for NPC's?

Indeed, otherwise we'd have the Gandalf situation - he killed a balrog but couldn't kill a troll by himself - what chance would the guards have against magic? There should be some explanation, like a force field neutralizing magic or something in the prisons. Juvenile prisons seems a bit too much considering the size of the world, just throw them in there.

well hopefully with the new radiant ai other npcs commit crimes sometimes so it doenst feel like the soul job of the gaurds is to monitor u like it did in previous games. they could also be linked to quests, distressed woman about children in prison wrongfully accused. theives guilds golden theif boy caught in prison etc etc. / the same reasons you give npcs a house

also it adds a ncie realism and environment. you can go in and set them all free if u like.

and the magic and gender specific ones apply to ones own chara

I doubt any children are going to be arrested, much less NPCs.

I don't see any situations where kids would be sent to prison so that seems to be a moot issue to me.

You can't play as a kid, so it isn't something you can decide to do.
Kids probably can't attack, given that they're invulnerable it would be unfair, which means they aren't assaulting anyone.
I doubt kids will be scripted to do other illegal activities.

I don't quite understand the last question... If it means there should be a place that silences magic, which can be quest-related, like a cave... sure. But not a prison, unless it's a magic prison that is

Well, in my character's backstory, after her trial, they placed bracers, enchanted with runes of silence, on her wrists to keep her from casting spells on her way to her pending execution.

In a culture where magic is fairly common, there has to be something to keep magic types, like my shamaness from casting while in custody. Perhaps a rune marked area, or cells with special runes, etc.

I would imagine that for some types of mages, but not all, simply taking ther spellbook, or special items would work.

Children were in a prison environment in FO3.

In Oblivion, it looked like each prisoner had a separate cell, taunting each other through bars. Also, my magic characters could not use magic on the person in the other cell, but could cast within the cell.

I remain curious to how these circumstances are treated in the game.

Honestly, using Silence on prisoners should be par for the course with prisons in TES. You take away their armor and weapons and that's fine and dandy, but what about powerful mages? They can unlock doors, summon Daedra, and burn the whole place down with fireballs. Removing weapons and armor is nothing to them. Nords especially, with their prejudices against elves, would seek to Silence prisoners.

I think a simple wrist iron with a Silence on Self effect would be perfect.

Children shouldn't go to jail. I imagine the worst they could do in-game would be steal, which honestly should require nothing more than a slap on the wrist. And no need for gender-specific jails. (I'm also not sure how only men supposedly got sent to jail in Oblivion. I can recall two different situations where females got sent to jail, not including that female player-characters started in jail the same as anyone else.)

It's not that no one was committing crimes. They were being killed for their crimes instead of imprisoned.

If child killer perk is forbidden, I want a way to make the kids grow up as advlts faster, through witchcraft, potions or whatever, then I'll be able to give them a death sentence if they annoy me to much... That or an option to toggle off the kids out of the game.

If the guards had arrested the woman in Cheydinhal with the dogs, instead of five or six of them butchering her over a stolen lettuce, would have been a big improvement. I don't think she would have minded mixed jails one bit.

^ This, but i dont think it should be 100% silenced. REALLY pwerful mages should be able to have a chance.

Yes! I hate that kids are in the game! Fallout 3 i just kind of dealt with it. And even then i just pretended like they weren't there. I HATE kids in a game because it limits you to what you can and can't do. It's like taunting you, "Hey you can't kill me!". If you visited Little Lamplight you would know what i mean. I really hope bethesda doesn't try to do something like that again :banghead:
