Jyggalag - more Aedric than Daedric?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:26 pm

A thought occurred to me recently - probably not a heavy enough thought to sustain a very large topic, but it's an interesting one.

If Jyggalag is the type of Prince who desires Order above all else, and even potentially leads crusades against other Daedra, isn't that a metaphor for Stasis, of opposing change and revolution in favor of sameness? In a lot of ways, it seems he serves the interests of Anu much more than those of Padomay. Even if he is a Daedric Prince...and doesn't his existence throw of the equilibrium of the whole spokes of the wheel metaphor? Or is this balanced by the apotheosis of Tiber Septim?

The order of things can change, as that's exactly what happens when Sheogorath turns into Jyggalag.

Jyggalag represents the aspects of Lorkhan that had to be suppressed to give the Munuds independent existence.

Well, if the original status of the universe is in essence Sithis, or Chaos, then Order would represent the exact opposite of that. So, in order for there to be any semblence order in the universe, a great deal of change must be made from its original state of Sithis.

Basically, drastic changes had to take place to take the universe from a formless nothing to the orders of Aetherius, Oblivion and Mundus that there are today. So in a way...I suppose you could say that Jyggalag represents change more profoundly than any other Daedric Prince.

Sithis is nothingness, not chaos. There must be *something* in chaos for it to be.

Well, I think the argument can still be made. Even if Sithis is nothingness, the very nature of existence requires some form of order. So Jyggalag still, in a sense, represents the antithesis of Sithis.

I think he means that Sithis is http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/entropy (refer to definition b ). Although I don't think that's it, I can understand how one would interperet it in that fashion.

Representing is different then being. He represents Sithis's antithesis, Anuiel, as all Anuic gods do. In the same way Sheogorath represents Sithis (he is a 'Sithis shaped hole' afterall).

If you're going to go that route, I'd liken him more to Akatosh than Lorkhan... which would also explain why he's related to Sheogorath.

If you don't mind a bit of a tangent, number 3 is actually a better description.

It's known the Aurbis is made out of two fundamental elements. Anu and Padomay. Sithis is a tendency for the Aurbis to attain a state of maximum homogeneity. The Aurbis knows knows two periods in which it was homogeneous, at the start and with the creation of Mundus which attempted to recreate the initial state.

It's opposite, Auriel is a tendency for the Aurbis to attain a state of maximum segregation. The Aurbis knows one such period, between the realisation of Auri-El and the creation of Mundus. In this period the et'Ada started to last and seperate themselves into Aetherius and Oblivion.

These conclusions should at the very least be considered odd because Anuiel and Sithis are considered to be interchangeable with Anu and Padomay or in other cases, their respective souls. Yet here, Anuiel and Sithis act tangentially to Anu and Padomay as at any time something is made more Anu-like by Anu-iel, something else is made more Padomay-like or when something is made less Anu-like by Sithis, something else is made less Padomay-like.

To put this in the terms of the Loveletter. Sithis is the forces that joins, that is love. Auriel is hate. Yet Sithis is also death, and Auriel is life. To be immortal like the et'Ada is to hate. Only love can die.

To love is to die. Mara has blood on her hands.

To die is to love! Mephala goddess of Love!

Shezarr! Dreaded father of murder! Lover of Mara!

Mephala I take thine mourning veil from thy face and show thee to the world as Mara!

I came.

No, but seriously: that's a great assessment. Specifically, I've never thought of Sithis as a tendency, which really helps visualize (so to speak) its role in the Aurbis. And that bit about Love being the only thing that can die is great.

Just...why Mephala? Scheming and plots and six?

Oh wait, I get it, I think. Nevermind.

Anuiel is the nothingness. Sithis is the process of creation and destruction; the start of the house of Mundus.
