NO KARMA SYSTEM equals bad dialogue choices

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 6:27 pm

No! That's the very definition of absolutely awful!

I'm glad they got rid for karma. I don't need some rank deciding on how the entire world treats me. People should have to learn if I'm bad or good from my actions, not by "oh he looks evil, let's treat him like trash."

And besides, everyone sees things differently, some might think something is a good thing, while others bad, I don't need the game to make that decision for me.

I miss the karma system. Sometimes it`s not clear what choise is good or bad as there is not enough information. And there are not enough consequences for your choices. So it somehow makes it flat. You can be a saint or an evil, but the world barely cares.

Though the karma system was not perfect and needed some work on it, but in general it was fun for me. I also miss some some religion content.

Agreed and not having it just was one more instance of Bethesda removing fun from their game.

Now that's a little harsh. It was a pretty insignificant thing that LIMITED you more than helped you.

Not choosing the Institute is worth 5000 evil karma. Fighting for the Institute is worth 5000 Good Karma. I am right.

Now someone will come and say it is opposite. You know what? They are right too.

Make our own decision on what is right or wrong. Even the Story-writers don't have the answer to these questions.

Because of the morally gray factions I think what's missing is faction reputation. Karma relies too much on people in a wasteland caring about what you do, whereas reputation has them only caring about what you do for/to them.

Nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me.

The game is made to be gray, even siding with the Institute is not about good or evil in the first place. Making it good or bad is essentially take away what people may consider a good ending, like evil karma for the Institute when the Institute could be good or evil.

Well I`m not a moral relativist, I absolutely believe that there are morals , good and bad things :) Without good and bad there is no point to choose anything at all and to have 4 factions. You can make any random choice and imagine that you are right or wrong. The world is indifferent. I don`t want to imagine anything, to convince myself that I`m good or bad, not fun, I want to find the trueth and to see consequences, bad, neutral or good.

You'll find the truth when you join the Institute. That deserves -9999999999 karma.

Deciding what is good or evil from your point of view and what kind of future and choices you consider to be right or wrong.

Bad dialogue choices equal bad dialogue choices.

Explain to me why a karma system should be in any game? It is to gamey and detracts from the choices you make. You use it to metagame, not to think about your choices.

You do realize that many hated it right? Do you really need the game to tell you you did something bad? Can you really not figure that out on your own?

You do realize that most things in this world, and Fallout's world, are morally grey right?

There is no creating of a world, that's the issue. When I finished the game with the Institute there was absolutely no difference in the world except for the factions I destroyed and stumbling upon the occasional synth.

If I want to be a bad guy in this game, there's no way for me to do so.

You can extort money from people, support slavery, murder an entire group of people dedicated an oppressed group of people, steal, let a child burn in a fiery inferno and you STILL don't think you can be evil? Is your moral compass really so out of whack that you need the game to tell you what is good and bad?

Well, you can go to the past and tell Beth to make a more meaningful post-MQ world. We will lose a good deal of quests or something else, but maybe it's worth it? We have so many quests already after all...

In other words, welcome to the world of being able to play post-game and the fact that a Developer can't afford to make a changed world for all endings. This is why Obsidian ditched this and instead made the game end: ending the game and having ending slides roll is what allows you to fully enjoy the consequences of your actions.

Well, I still retain some weak hope that Beth makes a DLC focused on post-MQ content... DLC is really the only thing that can make justice to this.

In any case, this is not a Karma issue.

It`s not true. There are neutral things, that have no good or bad effect on anything or they can have both effects sometimes. But there are also good and bad things. How about making you a slave, is it also grey ? :)

Karma system....yea, I'm glad that [censored] is gone. Now a reputation system? That I miss.

There are a handful of moral decisions in this game, there are no evil or bad guy options for dialogue, just more forceful answers that get the exact same response. You used to be able to be truly evil in New Vegas and 3. You think Human Synth's are equitable to slavery? Railroad scum.

Karma was stupid. The devs used it to arbitrate what they felt was good or bad.

I put a whole through every member of the Railroad's head. I bleed Steel you Enclave filth.

:P

But as someone pointed out above, that's a dialogue issue, not a karma issue. You don't need a stupid karma system to have evil dialogue options.
