Karma System

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:46 am

I MYSELF WAS NOT A FAN OF FALLOUT 3 AND NEW VEGAS KARMA SYSTEM. I DIDNT UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR KARMA WOULD DECREASE IF NO ONE SAW YOU COMMIT THE CRIME LIKE STEALING SOMETHING. I ALSO ALWAYS FELT LIKE I WAS BEING PRESSURED TO DO EVERYTHING FOR THE GOOD KARMA INSTEAD OF MAKING MY OWN DESCISION. I ENJOYED OBLIVIONS KARMA SYSTEM BECAUSE IT WASNT PRESSURING AT ALL BUT WAS STILL SOMEWHAT THERE. I WOULD ALSO CONSIDER A BETTER NEW KARMA SYSTEM FOR SKYRIM THAT WASNT AS PRESSURING AND AS BIG OF A ROLE (ALTHOUGH I STILL THINK ITS A IMPORTANT QUALITY IN THE GAME) I WOULD LIKE ITS IMPORTANCE TO BE TONED DOWN

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS TOPIC?

What do I think? I think you need to turn off the caps lock.

Personally, good/evil, infamy/fame etc should be scrapped. Instead, reputation among cities and factions should be used instead.

I personally would rather it be along the lines of an improved version of Oblivion's. I found Fallout's system to be rather disastrous actually.

Like Morrowind should be an option, where there is no Karma. At most it should be like Oblivion but once again, NO Fallout features. Oblivion is not Fallout with swords and Fallout isn't Oblivion with guns.

The default font is fine, but your caps lock mess looks...well...immature.

Yep. I wouldn't mind a general fame/infamy score that is based on quantifiable, obvious actions (couple main quest? gain fame. Get high bounty? Infamous). An arbitrary rating of what is good and what is bad, like a karma meter or paragon score or anything else, removes the possibility of moral ambiguity from the story.

It doesn't matter if someone saw you commit a crime or not. Karma doesn't depend upon people knowing what you did. Personally, I liked Fallouts Karma system.

I don't really like the idea of having karma in the games. It imposes a moral structure that I might not completely agree with. Like if I wanted to play a "good" character, the game designers might disagree with what I think is "good" or "bad". I like the fame/infamy system they had in Oblivion.

To be honest I would like it to be completely behind the scenes.

Either something new or stick with OB's fame and infamy.

Although I'd like it if there was no "good/evil" point over all, but certain quests, etc. would gain or loose positive reputation toward certain factions, towns, etc.

I loved how Oblivion had no Karma System apart from a simple Fame/Infamy rating. I wouldn't change it as that was one of the best things about Oblivion. If they do have a Karma System I want it nothing like Fallouts Karma System I would want it from the ground up.

Same here, which is kind of what Morrowind and DF did.

Lets not change the core game aspects. Skyrim is an Elder Scrolls game. Not a stand alone or a Fallout game.

Yes, I'd much prefer having reputation with factions/towns/people then a good/evil thing. Not only is it supremely over done, but it was a bad idea from the start, black and white worlds are boring.

If anything, OB changed the core system. Previously, it was factions. Was done in DF, and later MW with the "how well you are known" meter just being reputation.

No good or evil, or karma or anything. Just reputation. If people know you did something, and they don't like your actions they don't like you. New Vegas esque I guess but different

You couldn't join every faction in Morrowind. You had to choose between Redoran, Hlaalu, or Telvanni. Even some the guilds you could join, you could only do so many of the quests before you had to off someone in the other guild you were possibly in, thus ending their questline.
