Karstaag, karliah and mod spam in papyrus logs

Post » Thu Oct 17, 2013 6:38 pm

Howdy. This is the 4th time I've tried to post this as apparently my logs are too long to post, even individually and with spoiler tags!

Basically, I've been around here a while (lurking) and using mods for skyrim since since very early 2012. For a long while now, I've noticed that my logs are being filled with lines referencing mods that I have never used or even downloaded, Karstaag summon script (which I've never used, though I do have the spell) and stuff about Karliah and her invisibility spell.

Now, I've done some digging via google and have come accross some references to the karliah scripts I mentioned, but nothing in depth. That's more than I can say about the other concerns I mentioned though. I've found absolutely zilch about karstaag scripts causing problems and even less about mods somehow putting in mentions about other mods into the scripts.

I'm thinking that the mod makers have been using bits of other mods to make theirs, things like wet & cold using bits of other mods for the clothing etc. That's understandable and doesn't bother me that much, but I am worried about some others that have been cropping up in my logs, stuff like "helgen reborn", "RCRN" and "Dynavision" which I have never downloaded, let alone used.

Now my setup has been fairly stable thus far. A bit stuttery with a 20MB save file, but manageable. What worried me was seeing my log files go from about 300KB for an hour or two of play to nearly 300MB(!) for 10 minutes of play! The sizes have dropped back down to the 300KB mark since then but unfortunately I lost the big logs so I can't share them. I can however show you my current logs and my load order.

Logs coming as soon as I figure out how to attach files! They're...a little bit too long to post, even individually!

EDIT
It would seem that I can't attach any files. I'll try dropbox or something then link to that.

EDIT2

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BxYGyvqxMmqpbEtvWUpuNlkzQnM&usp=sharing

Log0 is 387KB, 1 is 11Kb, 2 is 53KB, 3 is 65KB.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

All of the log errors for the mod that starts with 5C (those numbers in parenthesis) have problems with invalid scripts. They belong to the 3DNPC.esp, which I believe is for "Interesting NPCs". The script errors you're getting for those are probably worth reporting to the author as whatever they're supposed to do can't currently be done.

These two are DLC errors we're going to have corrected for the 2.0 releases of the unofficial patches. Though the fix will only take hold on a new game.

These two will also be fixed by our 2.0 packages. They're errors introduced by Patch 1.9.

Things that read like these are generally safe to ignore. They're just telling you that the mod updated and removed some variables that are no longer needed. If you were to save the game and reload it later, these kind of warnings would not be visible anymore because the game has done away with the information.

Stuff like this is far more annoying. It means the scripts were modified, but they were doing something when the save was made and now your save won't let go of them.

In this particular case, the _wetquestscript one will probably flush itself once you run into whatever that instance is attached to.

However, the one for MQ101 and the two for my alt-start mod will not be so forgiving and are likely to cause errors down the road. For that, I'm afraid your only solution is starting a new game on the latest version of my mod (2.3.3a).

Everything in between those two lines, ignore it. It's mainly because the function used to detect other mods spits out false errors when it can't find the files. Plus the remainder is just initialization messages being sent by those mods.

Your most serious problem is here though. This crap repeating over and over again in your logs means a script from the DLC has gotten itself hopelessly stuck. It may be a bug we need to fix for the Unofficial Dragonborn Patch. It may be a mod you have that's altered this code and done something horrible to it. The bottom line is this will be severely degrading your game's ability to process other scripts that need attention when you're not in the area this is meant to run.

Much appreciated Arthmoor. I figured that most of them would be fairly benign. I hadn't realised that the interesting npcs mod was causing any trouble though. Thanks for the heads up, I'll drop the author of that mod a line.

I'm not all that bothered about this save to be honest. I've been running it since...oohhh man, patch 1.2 or 1.3? Considering its age and the amount of mods I installed and uninstalled* with this save, it's pretty incredible that it's still running at all, let alone at 20,000KB at lvl 82! It'd be nice to keep it around, but if it's the end, then it's the end. Little Allie Hlaalu (the dunmer fem character in question) has had a good long solid run!

Still, I'm at a loss as to which mod could have caused the karstaag spam. My first thought was immersive creatures, but I only installed that a day or two ago and this issue has been around for a couple months. Those 300MB log files I mentioned were damn near all Karstaag. God only knows what could have caused it to do that. I wish I'd kept them now. They were surprisingly pretty in a strange way.
I'll have to have a peep at it in tesvedit.

Thanks for the help though :D

EDIT

*No, I didn't know about data being baked into saves back then. I do now though!

I've had a peep at the formID in question (04034b59), which is the "DLC2dunKarstaagQST_IceWraithsSummoned" under "scene" in dragonborn.esm. According to tes5edit, nothing was in conflict with Karstaag or any of his scripts. No patches, mods or anything. To me it looks as if the scene has to have a quest running for it to fire. If I'm reading (and comprehending) it correctly though, if the quest is already completed (which it has to be in order to be able to summon Karstaag using the spell) then it causes this problem.

The quest in question (pun not intended) is DL2dunKarstaagQST (040247F8).

I fired up the save just now and used Karstaag for the first time. If I'm seeing the errors right, then he shouldn't be able to spawn ice wraiths, but from what I saw he was summoning some, so I'm assuming that the other summon ice wraith script is firing just fine.
So as far as I can tell, the ice wraith summoning scene that's throwing up these errors shouldn't even be trying to fire after Karstaag has been defeated and the (Unmarked quest) has been completed.
