KEENING - new massive add-on website

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 10:43 am

Just launched the skeleton of the website for the project I'm working on. Just cover, video, and screenshots so far.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/

I think this is going to be a lot of fun for fans of the Morrowind Lore.

So what exactly does this do? And will it conflict with GDR?

Good luck. I don't see the premise written down anywhere; if you get a chance I'm sure a lot of us would like to see what your idea is; screens don't tell much.

I'm going to be expanding the site- I'll definitely add some actual written text about the premise.

The root of it starts with a member of the guild of mages receiving a message from Azura in a dream explaining that she is the reincarnation of a legendary historical figure, and she learns that Vivec City will be destroyed by Sheogorath after the Nerevarine destroys the Heart of Lorkan. If you have the knowledge that Vvardenfell will be destroyed either way, what do you do?

And nopes, it will not conflict with Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins at all. Most of it takes place in completely new areas.

Oh, and if any experienced modders stumble upon this and dont mind me asking questions when I get stumped in the learning process, I'd be much obliged.

My lore may be a little rough here, but Vivec is destroyed when the giant rock in he sky crashes into it making the mountain erupt.

You are correct! Sheogorath was jealous of the Tribunal and threw a moon at Vivec. Vivec froze the rock in place, but when the Heart of Lorkan was destroyed, his power waned. Some people made a deal with Clavius Vale to create a thing called the ingenium that required souls to power it in order to hold the rock in place, but this ultimately failed, the rock fell, and Vivec city became Scathing Bay.

Well, now I am just nitpicking, but I think saying that Sheogorath as the one who destroyed it seems a bit far reaching.

edit: This got me interested so I decided to look up exactly what a "nit" is and how you pick them. Apperently its the tedious task of picking hair with lice eggs from a person's head.

If I'm wrong, I'll adjust the writing, but my research appears to indicate this as one of the primary legends. I appreciate nitpicking... better to get it over with now than after it's released. I may have to actually release a document of my research with references, as I'm sure there will be more nit-pickers rising to the challenge.

I'm a nit-picker, too.... when Oblivion came out, I had to justify in my mind that Dunmer in Cyrodiil were less cursed, and therefore did not have gravelly voices. Khajiits must have other varieties with totally different leg bone structures. In Skyrim, Nords turned French. Bethesda can stray from their own lore, whereas modders will get ripped to shreds for even a perceived mistake. I'm dancing close to the fire.

No worries, you said nothing wrong. I recently read the Infernal City for my own research and I can confirm this. :)

Anyway, looks interesting, can't wait to hear some more lore about the palce.

If you have the knowledge that Vvardenfell will be destroyed either way, what do you do?

There is certainly room in the community for a mod that asks that very question. When the Infernal City was released, a lot of jaws dropped when we learned the fate of Morrowind. On this forum as well as on fan-created forums, there were discussions among people who get deeply involved in the role-playing aspect of the Elder Scrolls and they talked about the angst many characters would feel over discovering that they ended up playing a part in Vvardenfell's destruction.

I'm quite interested in seeing what you do with this and will be keeping an eye on this thread and your site. :)

Defend Balmora after the 6th house has completely destroyed it?
Why Balmora? I think its not a very good idea to change a heavily modded area, especially cities too much.
I will most certainly play it / try it out, but I dont think it will be in my essential mod list, if I have to see my favourite city destroyed.
Maybe you should reconsider this.
But its your work, so good luck and have fun either way!

Balmora, because everyone knows it. Bethesda had originally intended to have the blight spread across Vvardenfell, but that idea was never developed. I'm not going to take on that challenge. Don't worry, Keening doesn't touch your actual Balmora. Through means that will make sense in the storyline, you get to see what would happen if the Nerevarine failed. KEENING will nestle in neatly with your Morrowind.

Thanks! Though, I can't take credit for anything more than cobbling it together. The race comes from "Morrowind Comes Alive 6," and the outfit is from "Complete Gothic Attire." Although I am doing some new texture work, I'm focusing mostly on writing and designing. Something we don't see enough, in my opinion, is a mod that takes full advantage of resources that are already available that may not have ever been seen in an actual quest-line. So, Keening brings aspects from many existing resources to life... I've been getting as many permissions as possible to include resources in the download... but I still have some time to finish that up.

As for news... well, if you have facebook, I post a lot of updates here:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Elder-Scrolls-III-Keening-Morrowind-Expansion/250637605013467

If there is enough interest, I can start a [WIP] thread here... or, is this essentially my WIP thread? I am still very new to this community.

Posted in the thread "Show us what you are working on #25:

I've been working on KEENING since December. The city is 98% complete, and now I'm working on quests. My goal is to take the player on a ride to a lot of interesting locations.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-architect.jpg - Main quest-giver, with Winged Twilight Guard. Resources from "MCA" and "Complete Gothic Attire."

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-deadlands.jpg - Right now, I'm just working on creating objects and creatures. I've gained permissions for some excellent modder's resources.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-skyrimscene.jpg - Part of it is an interior behaving as an exterior, with a new region type created so that there is constant blizzard. Part of a time-travel storyline.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-quest.jpg - Part of a visit to an alternate Balmora that has been completely destroyed by Dagoth Ur.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-city-1.jpg - The new landmass from which the quests will launch.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-almsivi.jpg - A grab from TESCS to show preliminary concepts of Pre-Tribunal Chimer characters at the end of the war with the Nords.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/scrn-darklord.jpg - Using resources from "Complete Gothic Attire" and "MCA"

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/keeningtexture.jpg - Part of the guard uniform in Keening City. I'm doing most of my retexture work last.

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/screens/cliffracer.jpg - A side project I was working on... I haven't replaced all parts of this creature yet, but it was an exercise to break myself in.

I don't know much about having a WIP page, so I'm starting here. Thanks for looking!

Thank you, glad you like it! I've seen a number of utterly massive mods that are very sparse in content. I'm shooting for detailed, different, and interesting instead of going to the "large tracts of land" approach. You won't go into inter interior after interior and not find anything interesting. Well, that's my hope.

I was inspired by the level of detail in "South Wall, Den of Iniquity" and "Pelagiad Expanded WIP" by Gracklsrugh.

Oh- and Moshingpanda? THANK YOU! Perhaps I will finish this. But, I want to make a replacer version and an .esp version that creates a new creature - and possible versions for blighted and diseased. The problem is that under a creatures AI, the group sound files seems to be unalterable. I've been looking for a tutorial for that.

Sure, what have you? The more daedric/ deadlands resources I can get, the better. These will probably be the last quests that I build, so I have time to learn to create new models, play a little more of TESIV, and get permissions for using resources.
