Keep Fallout out of TES Please

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:58 am

These aren't confirmed, these are post that people have made in these forums. There are many such posts, weather they state they are fallout ideas or not, and I'm afraid that Bethesda might cave into them. Which is the reason I wanted to warn people that if they get what they want, they might not like what they get.

Oh. Don't worry then :) I'm under the impression they've taken something that worked well in FO:3 (perks) and will adjust it to fit snugly in a TES game (having appropriate perks). Until they release any info about a "Bloody Mess" perk in Skyrim, I wouldn't fret
There are a lot of posts calling for FO inspired stuff in TES, but there are just as many (if not more) calling for an authentic TES experience.

I want TES to remain its own series, but that doesn't mean that I'm categorically opposed to cross-fertilization between it and Fallout. So long as the qualities that make TES special are preserved, encouraging us to create more distinct characters may add to the fun. Everything I've seen so far suggests that the TES flavor will be intact.

The way perks are being implemented now is similar to fallout. TES had perks before, yes but not the way they are doing them now

If you don't want it to be like fallout just think of it as being similar to Dungeons and Dragons' system of feats.

It's not like Fallout was unique with this system.

Yes similar to D&D I can deal with, and I don't hate fallout I enjoyed playing it quite a bit. However I don't want to taste fallout when I'm playing TESV it would literally make me nauseous. The thought of it already is.

That's what I assumed, I couldn't remember, I don't mind the ability gained from mastering hand to hand but I don't want to "Choose" it like in fallout. Having to choose it would give it the taste of fallout, that's something I don't want.

I was under the impression, though am prepared to be corrected, that mastery perks automatically assigned by raising skills would be totally replaced by chosen perks, thus making every character different, and making your 'Class' something evolved from your choices.

Where is the option for "I want to play a fun game"? I don't care if Skyrim has space ships and lasers, as long as its fun and the story is intriguing.

Your poll is limiting :(.. ...

Yes, it's limiting and biased.

Of course I want TES to be unique and follow TES lore.

But I voted "Yes" because I'd like the developers to take some of the nice features of all previous games and blend them into something even better, and unique.

There is nothing wrong (in my opinion) with the Fallout perk-related rewards, as some have said most fallout related features are updated from Oblivion I think its all good.

Not even going to vote with such biased poll options. False dilemma written all over them.

Perks were in Oblivion, liked the idea. I like the idea that I can choose perks myself in Skyrim.

The perks are pretty much needed if you want to specialize as they have scrapped a lot of the skills again.
35 skills in Daggerfall.
27 in Morrowind (-8 less than in Daggerfall)
21 in Oblivion (-6 less than in Morrowind)
18 in Skyrim (-3 from Oblivion, total 17 skills lost during Daggerfall -> Skyrim, almost half of the skills!)

To specialize in One handed long blades you need to skill up the one handed skill and pick perks that make you better with long blades. Special moves, more damage etc.

Perks don't make a game Fallout.

First,define perk.
Than I'd like to ask what perks Morrowind had?

Fallout was basically a professional mod for Oblivion, with slightly better graphics... so really, Fallout borrowed very heavily from TES. Yet I doubt anyone would call Fallout 3 a post apocalyptic Elder Scrolls.

Anyway, bringing game systems over from Fallout that worked well, such as perks, doesn't even come close to making a fantasy Fallout. It would be one thing if they were adding guns, and nukes, and super mutants... but adding a couple game systems that have nothing to specifically do with the Fallout story/setting? I fail to see the issue.

As I haven't played Fallout, I can't say if I want it or not, but generally speaking I don't have a problem with borrowing features from other games as long as they fit the setting, and add to the immersion and ultimately my gaming experience. So I didn't vote.

I'm sure i saw exact post (title wise) last year before skyrim was announced lol

Theres things from Fallout i agree should be left out (who the hell wants super mutants in Skyrim ffs)
But really, i hope Skyrim isnt as constricted as Fallout 3 was (by that i mean the limited places you could go to within the destroyed city, i hated that) but likely it wont be.

Couldn't care less about the perks system, it sounds like it will work quite nicely actually, assuming they're unique and not just a copy paste of fallout's

Fallout was changed to look closer to the TES much more than the other way round. Just ask the long time fans. I'll agree to those that say the perk system can work in the TES and may even be a necessity after all the cut skills throughout the games. That said, they'd do well to keep the games seperate enough in the style so that one isn't the medieval version and the other the post apocalyptic version of the same game. These are probably Bethesda's main franchises, it's in their best interest to not make the one feel a recycling of the other.

Better, but I don't find the one I should vote on.

Fallout and Skyrim are so different games. If I would pick Fallout perks for Skyrim I would go scratching my head because there are no guns and Vault Assisted Targeting System. Copy paste perks from Fallout obviously WILL NOT WORK.

Perks are in Skyrim and I HIGHLY doubt they will scrap it, considering they've announced and built the system already.

May I make a suggestion:
1) Perks shouldn't belong to TES series
2) Perks are good addition to TES series
3) I don't know.

Are you kidding, everyone called it that! Especially fans of the original 2 Fallouts.

Actually a lot of people called it "Oblivion with guns".

They should preserve some uniqueness between the games, but I think it's important to consider what really is a unique, Elder Scrolls tradition (for example, spellmaking, leveling by using skills) and what would just be keeping things the same just for the sake of keeping differences.

Gaining abilities by leveling a skill is something that was brand-new in Oblivion and making it so that you have a choice between abilities rather than everyone gaining the same ones seems like a more interesting system and an obvious way to expand upon what they did in the last game. People had suggested that even before Bethesda was involved in Fallout and it wouldn't have surprised me if they would've come up with it independently even if they had never done Fallout.

Why shouldn't they take things that worked well and adapt them for Skyrim? They're going to keep the two franchises separate, but there's no harm in drawing inspiration.

I agree, I do think they made a step in the right direction with perks. I'm an old fashion D&D player so I'm very well aware of how "feats" or "perks' go a long way to making a character unique. My fear is I have heard way too many people (on particularly create a perk forum) blasting for Fallout perks. Also for them to be "funny" and have "cartoon pictures." That kind of talk makes me depressed.
