every single time i try to play i can only do so for about 5-10 minutes giving me the attention message "The connection to your opponent has been lost. You've been signed out"

any idea what is happening?

Try to disable your firewall and your antivirus (update your antivirus). Also you have to unlock some ports from your router. It worked for me. You can find the ports that you have to unlock in the manual
