Keeping track of quotes

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:26 am

Until last month I was more active at the Unofficial Elder Scrolls forums (I still am), and the major difference is that these forums are too intense. It's hard and time-consuming to keep track of the discussion in a thread, because there are like ten posts in five minutes when a new thread has been created.

So I'm just wondering if there's a way to keep track of when other people are quoting you? Perhaps an option so you'd get noticed when people do?

Thanks!

There's nothing built into the forum for this but if you do a search for your name it will show all the posts by you and every post where your name is mentioned, including quotes.

Go to your user name in the upper right corner, expand that and select "my content", but as Lemunde has mentioned you will need to search the forum with your user name to find exactly where you have been quoted.

Actually there is:

Settings -> Notification Options -> Topics & Posts -> Notify me when someone quotes my posts

Check "Inline Notification" and you will receive a pop-up notification with a link to the post you've been quoted in.

I didn't know that. Must be something new. Good to know.

To be more precise, the notification you receive upon being quoted has a button labelled "View" in its lower-left corner and clicking on that one brings you to the post you're quoted in. (That's because I've just seen what it looks like. :P )

I forgot to mention, in "Notification Options" under "Notification Preferences" you also need to check "Show popup when I receive a new inline notification" (if it isn't checked already) if you want to see a pop-up notification.

Pretty sure everyone on the board will be using this if they didn't know about it already; I'm sure gonna start.

Yeah, having it as a notification (not as e-mail) should totally be by default when registering. I had a hard time having discussions here when most threads reach above five pages in a day. Now, however, I can just click on the bar to instantly get to the threads where people have adressed me :D
