Keybinding?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:25 pm

How did they get this so wrong.

For those of us who use the arrow keys, you took away the ability to change key binds.

Sure, you can make it the arrow key instead of A & D, but when you use VATS, it still asks for A & D.

Same with Activate. I changed it from E, but that only changes half the uses for E, and some looting still requires you to hit the E button.

Really? These are some basics that gamers come to expect from a game.

Not to mention I can't bind the Num keys?

Or how about all the hidden unbindable keys.

I've even searched for a manual, so I can see all the default key bindings in the game, and that's no where to be found either.

Yeah, I literally cant play this game as a left-handed person who needs the mouse in his left hand. I always have to switch all the keys over to the right side, but that's not possible in this game for whatever reason.

I doubt Bethesda cares though, considering how many copies they sold this week. One lost sale wont change much.

Bah, seems like it's definitely an oversight on BGS. Changing a keybinding should change all actions bound to that binding.

That said, I really can't get on board for the arrows for movement train. They're usually isolated from other keys, making it a PITA to use other buttons.

Touche. I guess using arrows for movement would make a bit more sense for lefties. Then again, I'm a lefty too, but I still use my mouse with my right hand.

The reason I use the arrow keys, is because they are isolated.

I hate hitting the wrong surrounding keys all the time, when I use wasd.

And yes, I think it was an oversight that they didn't make all the actions for a keybind change, retroactive.

It's not an oversight, they did the same for Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. It's however especially noticeable in Fallout 4 because of the more complex control schemes and the 'simplified' container loot system. I use 'Q' and 'E' to strafe and the game is nearly unplayable for me because I constantly get stuck on containers when the loot menu opens and bodies, brooms and baskets get stuck to the actor every damn time I happen to right strafe.

I also just a few hours ago discovered that you CAN move around while placing objects in the world, but because I use 'RIGHT MOUSE' to move forwards and 'W' to move backwards, I thought that you could only rotate the object, not move around with it. This of course limits me to, yeah, moving backwards with my sofas and defence turrets. I mean, I feel so stupid performing that action, it's embarrassing.

How, in seven hells, did a triple-A developer deliberately do this in 2016! It's gobsmacking.

It's unbelievable. Every action should be bindable, including context actions such as menus, which should allow the same keys to be used because they won't occur at the same time as anything else.

This is a must for PC gamers.

Yeah, I can do a lot of things with my right hand, but I can not aim for the life of me. My right hand is useless with a mouse. It just feels so...wrong.

Wait till you try to use the workshop. The arrow keys are used for the workshop menu (why can't we just use the mouse for browsing and selecting in that menu, you might well ask) and you won't be able to move at all. You will be opening and closing the worrkshop menu all the time just to get anything done. And assigning workers becomes impossible. This reallly means that using arrow keys for movement is not an option.

Fix this Bethesda. Why allow binding to the arrow keys when this makes other parts of the game impossible?

Omg, this game is unplayable for me.

I don't want to get a refund from Steam, but may have no choice.

Is there a mod to fix this yet?

Have you actually played Fallout 3 and New Vegas?
I must have missed the "hardcoded keys" in those two games for the 1000+ hours I clocked up on them... just having too much fun, I suppose.

... what I am trying to say is; no they didn't.

I am left handed.

I use the Arrow keys to move in the game. (This is not going to change, as I do this in hundreds of games)

The Build menu has the Arrows Hard coded to the Arrow Keys.

Therefore, I can not move when in the Build menu. (Without changing the Move Keys to something else, other than Arrows.)

Please add an option to change the Arrow KEYS used for the Build Menu. (If I could change these to other keys, All would be fine.)

Lefties UNITE... Let's get Bethesda to fix this oversight.

PS: I do think it to be a viable option to make the Mouse control the menu.

I also Agree that the Key-binds are not following all the changes for all the Keys.

Anyone.. Try changing the E Key to anything else for a bit & you too will find out that your change doesn't "Completely" follow the new Key-bind.

You will still have to press E, for lots of things in the game.

Please Fix the Key-Bind issues Bethesda.

I'm like 95% sure all those games did indeed have hardcoded keys (as well as a multitude of other mouse and keyboard problems) at launch. I'm not sure of Bethesda fixed them in patches, or the community fixed them with mods/script extenders.

Bethesda's sloppiness with the mouse and keyboard controls is well documented. The controller experience gets all the attention and the mouse and kb controls are simply an afterthought. Its been this way since Fallout 3 in 2008, and here we are in 2015 with the exact same issues all over again only this time they're worse, exacerbated by the workshop.

The fact that it continously happens is insulting, because it shows they don't care.

um... I think arrows alligned well... better feel than WASD because WASD is a bit shifted... and no... there is plenty keys to use!

Insert(jump), Del(crouch), Home(Bullet Time), End(VATS), PGup(nade change), PgDn(Melee change), Num0(melee), NumDel(Ammo switch), Backspace(Pip), Enter(use), RShift(sprint), RCtrl(reload), Num*(flashlight) tjis is my setting for NewVegas WITH MORE HOT KEY MODS SuCH AS melee, sprint, bullet time, and nade!!! I haven't even use all the Numkeys yet! and my pinky can still reach [ ] ; ' , / Etc.... you should see me play Jedi Knights and Jedi Academy, Num keys for all the force power hotkey to activate, hold to stream, and best of all... I mapped ALL THE POWERS, and I was playing as a GRAY-JEDI (meaning, I use both light, AND DARK powers!) Masters non, but have them all at perffession level... love the single player game, because you get to max out all the powers muahahahaha! good times... I wish bioshock have that option... that game is soooooo dated... compared to Jedi Knight.... yeah... my play style IS viable, I play UT2K4 with this AND mods together! my auto skill is masterful(sometimes inhuman)!~

+1 for making the controls FULLY MAPPABLE. It's ridiculous that they have HARDCODED controls.

I play using EDSF, and the game is totally broken trying to play this way...I mean, I walk around randomly picking up stuff since E is hard mapped to pickup/action. :\ Workshop is Impossible to use.

Seems PC gamers are an after thought. :\

And for anyone with mouse control issues...see here: http://files.shanelenzen.com/fix-fallout-4.html

i'll add my +1 here too, although i've already stated my case in a similar thread here

i also have issue with having two keys for similar functions, e.g. i press spacebar to pick something up off a shelf but use E to pick it up from a container. i'd much rather just grab everything with the spacebar
