Keybinds or a better way to use skills

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 4:05 am

Am I the only one who finds pressings the number keys in combat clumsy and awkward?

Anyone have better key bindings or a solution to this?

I thought of buying a multi-button mouse or something, but I wish I could think of a way to handle this with my regular setup.

never had this problem with other mmo's or games

you shouldn't have to purchase special hardware...

a lot of this games UI and mechanics seem compromised for console use.

I already had it. It's not like I went out of my way. My naga has been infinitely useful in almost every MMO.

But, no, you shouldn't have to buy special hardware. It's also not hard to map with its like 7 keys. The game I mean.

You can rebind and move them just like every other MMO, so what exactly is your problem??

I could never use a keyboard. Xpadder for me, and have got my mappings about right.

Was doing everything on auto by the 2nd day.

the naga hex works really well with this game. 6 skills to match the 6 buttons, its perfect. however i still use my keyboard for all my skills, i heavily modified the lay out though. i made something like 35 changes

Can you map the potions and food on your Q wheel to individual buttons? I can't find it.

You can map them [I think]. The default is shift+1-5 but I think you can change them.

It's borderline unusable as it is now.

I can't find it. If anyone can please share. Why wouldn't they be Q+1-5? So counterintuitive.

This may be side topic, not sure. It kind of has to do with key bindings and such. So about the 5 quick slots...... I understand they want you to prioritize which skills you will use. I get that. But only 5!?! I like to vary my combat and use different combos and stuff. And let's be honest, we are talking about a PC environment with a KEYBOARD! It has like a kajillion keys! We should be able to take advantage of that. If I find a UI add on that let's me have more quick slots, I'm jumping on that!

I have problem with keybinds tho, it seems like alt, ctrl and shift is register as a keybind and you can't use it to combine with other keys, which make the possible way less than most MMO and PC games.

Any idea if we'll be able to use shift/ctrl/alt + another keybind ?

A keypad makes a world of difference whether you get an Orbweaver, G13, Cyborg or whatever - all those keys right under your fingers without the usual contorting and awkward stretching on a keyboard. Don't think of it as for game X - it's for 'gaming' instead of typing which is what keyboards are optimized for.

This one kind of goes crazy with the concept

I have a hard time a bit too mostly because the combat is 'active' and usually to hit my 2 key I need to take a finger off the W key. But I'm planning on keeping 1-3 mapped on my keyboard and then mapping 4-5 to my mouse for easy access there. I have a G700 so of the keys on my mouse, I have activate/interact, 4 key, 5 key, and ultimate ability mapped to my thumb and inventory mapped to my pointer finger. This has worked fairly well, but I do foresee much fine-tuning in the long run.

Seconded. I switched to a G13 a couple years ago or so, for the same reason as in the OP...was tired of finger-twister. Added a G600 mouse, and now I only use my keyboard for chat, and I suffer a lot less fatigue in my fingers and wrists after long sessions.

The biggest drawback to the keyboard is that three fingers are basically reserved for wasd and punching numbers. With the G13 (and other pads), all wasd movement, and even combinations of those keys, is handed by the thumb joystick, leaving your four fingers to handle a plethora of skills using the keys on the pad, a much smarter, ergonomic, and responsive setup.

only a G19 and G700

I found the button for G19 is mostly useless.

I use the number keypad (to the right of the main keyboard) for movement (4 and 6 left and right, 5 and 2 forward and back) which leaves me just enough keys to bind the limited number of options we have here and it works great.

Numpad 0 - Weapon Swap

Numpad Decimal - Ultimate

Numpad 1 - Ability #1

Numpad 3 - Ability #2

Numpad 7 - Ability #3

Numpad 8 - Ability #4

Numpad 9 - Ability #5

Numpad Divide - Inventory

Numpad Multiply - QuickSlots

Numpad Minus - Generic "Windows" (the ALT default key)

Numpad Plus - Crouch

Numpad Enter - Jump

I DO have to use Delete for Synergy and END for "interact".... but they're not far (go go pinky finger!)... I just use F for interact with player and H for mounting horse, and W for Walk-Toggle and Backspace for sheathing weapons, since I don't need those RIGHT NAO.

I also remap the Dialog Controls for primary/secondary/tertiary/decline, although I can never remember the exact order... ONE of them, and I think it's ~secondary~ dialog option, for some reason, is the LOOT ALL option, which I bind to END, so I hit END to loot a foe and then I can hit END immediately and it'll LOOT ALL (but I still get to see what I'm looting in the window ---- I don't like the AUTO-loot feature).

In a way, having limited button-presses HELPED me... in other games, I bind the numpad as much as I can but then I still have to leave my movement keys and reach over to some other key.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot, I also bound the thumb button on my mouse to switch First and Third person view. I don't use a fancy multi-button mouse ;)

Maybe I was either doing it wrong or had a bug, but I couldn't change any bindings to use the Shift key. For example, I want my zoom in and out to be shift mousewheel up\down, but when I tried to bind it, it would either choose Shift or mousewheel.

Only thing I find clunky is the interacting with NPCs and items like chest, I really wish there was a right click option, versus spamming E and then having to hit Alt to exit. But can't have everything I guess
