On PC.

Game starts up and I can hit any key to get to the main menu with New, etc., but once the game is at that screen the keyboard and mouse don't work anymore. No cursor and arrow keys, everything just doesn't work. I have to go to the task manager to shut the game off.

Is it thinking I have a gamepad or something? How would I set this?

Just some additional info.

Windows 10. GTX 960 with latest NVIDIA driver. Screen just locks up at main menu.

Same, I can get to the main menu, but I have no access afterwards, no mouse, no keyboard.

Having same issue. Windows 8. GTX 960. No controller is plugged in.

Try this. Apparently the game automatically thinks a gamepad is connected.

1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\my games\Fallout4
2. Open fallout4prefs.ini, find bGamepadEnable and set it to 0.
3. Save the file and start the game.

I've also seen a lot of people reporting this who DO have a gamepad connected. Fallout 4 doesn't switch between the two easily, so you'll have to make sure there isn't a gamepad connected to your PC if you want the keyboard to work.

Having same issue exactly

Description:

- After starting to in game menu, the game ignores the keyboard and main menu is non functional.
Keys Not working include All critical path keys like arrows, mouse, mouse scroll, escape key do not work.

Developer console key ` works,

- Not locked up or frozen, just ignoring keystrokes in the garage main menu.

- No graphics problems (to or in the main menu)

Summary: Reproducible every time. GAME can't get past initial menu.

Status: Show stopper, no workaround.

Notes

- Platform MSI GT80 Nvidia 980 SLI, windows 7 x 64, english, USA

- PC is fully patched, game ready and tested recently as today without issues. Follout 4 is the only game with an issue or ever with this issue.

Next steps

- Game pad is/was connected, will try starting with it not connected

- MSI provides its computers with Steel series keyboard drivers, just a thought if disconnecting game pad fails, will uninstall SteelSeries

SOLUTION: Disconnected my VaultTec Scuf gamepad Hybrid, and then on starting the game, found that it is a workaround solution.

I for one have never seen a game in 30 years fail both keyboard and mouse when started with a game pad connected.

So its a new "thing" and likely going to annoy and impact a lot of PC users with game pads. Most of which im sure will mostly experience this as a missed success requirment.
