Posting in this thread to again try to raise awareness for this Grand and Gigantic bug.

All I need is acknowledgement.

Hmmm, saw a reply via mail that struck a cord, but was edited out by author *shrugs*

The thing was, I agreed. Cracks of this game are up since the 11th to be exact, and updates to official updates are just as quick (if memory serves). I bought this game, FNV and F3 as well because I love this game ever since the first Fallout came out and I wanted to contribute/support it's continuing existence by paying.

What am seeing regarding the UI and it's hardcoded keys.

The total lack of forethought or emphathy for anyone on a computer that isn't right handed using a QWERTY keyboard and pyisically whole.

Not beeing able to play fullscreen.

The total lack of concern for warning customers that bought the box edition that they still needed to download 20GB to be able to play it, in anycase.

Beth playing Austrich with it's head in the sand on it's own forum to it's customers.

Makes me question the validity of continuing to support such companies. Like it had been stated, just use the crack and the 3rdparty soft to rebind the keys like iFailed in his post teaches and lefty666 advocates so well, and if you feel like; it once all is patched, relativally bugfree including all DLC and at a very cheap price, buy it then.

And that is what is going threw my head right now.

I'd have to agree, if you have not purchased this title for the PC yet and know you would suffer the same fate or problems outlined within these threads then do not purchase until the patches start to roll out to amend these issues. Simply not worth the ball ache.

I'm actually very happy to see Bethesda making an official statement on their blog. It's a step in the right direction and I will give credit where credit's due. Let's just hope they follow through and fix the priority issues like the mass CTD issues, game simply not launching issues and key binding issues. Please for the love of God do not focus on console related issues before at least sorting out the PC issues first. How can we test bugs for the console releases if we cannot even play the game or have our hands tied trying to help.

the only things I've been wanting are A] a Darnified UI that would make the Transfer and Hover-Over inventory windows longer, so less scrolling is required.

and B] an option to bind the Grab function to something out of the way. I can't tell you how many times I've resorted to stabbing E after picking up a dead Raider's leg for the 6th time when trying to loot him.

This is so wrong. Not being able to remap all they key ... worst, some keys are hard coded for some "sub-function" (like the "E" for looting or the "settlement mode").

I use an AZERTY keyboard, and don't (want to) use the default configuration and this is nearly unplayable ! Unconceivable from such an Entreprise.

So wrong.

I do hope there will be a patch SOON or I'll ask for a refund (bought the game yesterday).

Read the rules / guidelines - I hate to say.

Do not rant, don't get angry, just explain the issues is a clear and decisive, helpful way and the threads shouldn't be removed.

And especially don't offend a moderator, eesh.

Actualy, in 2015 there is no place in gaming world for a PC game with such crap key configuration and worse, with so much hardcoded key that turn the re-binding nearly impossible.

Wtf seriously

What's the next step with their crap console port ? Cant play at all with mouse and keyboard ?

first reports say that we still can't use the arrow keys for movement in building mode and VATS, can someone test it and report back here? I'm suspecting this comes from people who just read the notes didn't actually tried the thing

I thought remapping activate now works on quick containing meant you could now loot with your rebinded activate key? No longer forced to use E?

If you are in AZERTY or else, don't bother you're still can't go up and left in Pip-boy and workshop.

Congratulations Bethesda...

According to the patch note the rebind ability is still crap.

Do the remapped movement key will work in construction mode ? rebind "tab" key ? rebind "loot all" etc...

Crap update, lazy devs.

This is a good first step (enabling to remap the "E" button as a whole). I'm going to test it right now in order to check this.

Guess the "settlment mode" will still be bugged since the patch note do not mention it.

Edit after testing : I can confirm that the remap of the action button "E" include the fact of looting objects inside containers (The R button is also remapped correctly for launching the transfer window).

And as expected, the settlement mode is still as bugged as previously.

Yeah, it illustrates the point that many people use the keyboard in totally different ways, and complete keybinding freedom has been a mainstay of PC gaming. Because of that freedom, you have a ton of variety of ways that people keybind, which can literally make games unplayable if they do not offer that freedom. It's been a while since I played a new Bethesda game and also there tend to be differences, so this is just some of my bindings from your list, off the top of my head:

Forward: Numpad 8
Back: Numpad 2
Left Strafe: Numpad 4
Right Strafe: Numpad 6
PipBoy/Journal: Page Up (NOT num pad pg up) or / in Numpad block
Crouch: Numpad 1
Jump: Numpad 9
Activate/Pickup: Numpad Insert
Menu Navigation: Numpad keys
VATS/Special Actions: Numpad 7
PowerAttack/Hold Breath: Right mouse
Reload/holster: Numpad 5

Didn't do a thing for me on azerty WSAD player, gameplay wise in world or settlement. Never had a problem with E key so can only hope it helped someone. And Tab just bashes which somewhere am glad or I think I'd be throwing grenades at poor Dogmeat instead of bashing him by mistake when I hit Tab. I don't really see how they "worked" on it. But I haven't used num keys to move for a few decades now *shrugs*

I have a theory on the matter. I think the game loads the keyboard layout according to the language it's installed and not the actual Windows layout. If it's French it loads an AZERTY layout, English a QWERTY layout etc. with no regard for what keyboard is actually active.

That would explain why the game loads a QWERTY layout in my English game even if my keyboard is AZERTY.

I hope I'm wrong because I can't imagine an editor making a AAA game without thinking of that case...

Guys, if you've opted into the beta update, please test your preferred keybind layout and leave feedback in the new Beta Update section on the forum. If some things are still broken, now is the time to get that feedback in, so they might release a more complete fix when the update goes live for everyone.

I get what you're saying, but I'm not beta testing a patch.

Bethesda completely screws up the keybindings and shows zero care with the pc port. And then they turn to us and ask us to beta test patches so the console experience is good. I'm getting sick of this.

Don't think anyone could lack so much fore-thought, but if it was that though, they could have patched it quickly enough in the 1rst patch. Good theory though.

Hello and best regards from Germany,

I hope very much someone from Bethesda Games Studios read this:

I have a 30% handicap, so that i am not really able to use a gamepad. Really. I tried it with Dark Souls several times without success . Maybe a gamepad is the best controller for the build mode, but really not for me. I think handicapped person should be coequal in the USA, too. And I don't want to use autokey or how it is named similar, because I do not like it, too. It is too complicated and I don't like to install a program of which I don't know exactly how it works with the other installed programs + programs of the OS + hardware together and where I must program a little here and a little there and then again a little here and there and so on.

I only want to move/walk/run with the arrow keys while I am in the build mode and move with other keys through the build-mode-menue. And using the auto-move-key is only a passably acceptable solution for searching for items to convert to building-material and not for building itself. So please Bethesda Games Studios fixed it as soon as possible. Investige some money of your profit. And not autokey or the community should fix it. You must it. Think again: Handicapped people shoud be coequal in the USA, too. So please someone from Bethesda Games should give a sophisticated statement about this issue with an answer about when this problem is nearly fixed.

And if you say, it is very difficult for us, because this keybinding is hardcoded, then reset and overhaul your whole software Your customer must download ca. 25 GB. The it should be not so much bad again to download 25 GB again. I would do it again with pleasure and handkisses to solve this problem. This issue is very very very annoying for me.
