keypad binding....RAGE! Part 2

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:23 pm

I just fricken KNEW post limit would be placed on http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544180-keypad-bindingrage/ thread. Funny thing is that thread has been targeted and not this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1546438-fallout-4-crash-in-specific-area/ thread ( http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=stats&do=who&t=1546438 ) this thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544248-bug-report-index-pc/ ( http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=stats&do=who&t=1544248 ) or this thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1543988-a-data-vault-of-tweaks-and-fixes-for-the-pc-version/ ( http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=stats&do=who&t=1543988 ) yet this thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544180-keypad-bindingrage/ ( http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=stats&do=who&t=1544180 ) gets locked. Funny that right?

This really is taking the piss. Does any Moderator have ANY information they can pass onto us about this keybind issue or at least ask Bethesda on our behalf as to the situation in regards to this matter?

Of course they did, they don't view it as game-breaking even though the keybindings are asinine

The arrogance of a moderator, who has no clue, and thinks he's got power, because he's a moderator.

Let the people speak, even if it's negative towards Bethesda, and they certainly deserve the criticism right now.

No one said anything against the rules in the last thread.

Silence for 9 days after a launch, is absolutely disgusting.

People say, oh well, that's Bethesda, but I can't remember any company doing this at launch.

Most companies have full staff on, trying to handle everything they can the first week or 2.

I don't know why there is a post limit on these forums, but Bethesda has not resolved the subject of the original thread:
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544180-keypad-bindingrage/
I feel strongly about this issue:

Note: Please keep this thread on topic and do not allow the subject to turn into a moderator bashing thread.

Please can you fix this. I've been playing with arrow keys since I first started playing games and not being able to re map all keys is making it very difficult to play the game. Also I think because of me remapping to arrow keys I can now not move about when in building mode.

To the moderators on this board locking down threads about issues that have not been fixed is only going to get your customers annoyed.

Ok, to reiterate my problems with the keybindings.

I want to use the arrow keys for movement, numpad 0 for reload, Enter to loot and interact with objects.

1) The arrow keys are used in the workshop menu so I can't move my character at all in this mode. They're also mapped to the dialogue options, I cannot change those so if I move when speaking to an NPC, it thinks I'm selecting a speech option. The W, A, S and D keys are used in VATS so I cannot switch targets or body parts using the arrow keys, even though I've mapped the arrow keys to do it. When picking a lock you have to use A and D, again the game ignores my keybinds. All of this means that remapping the W, A, D or D keys only works half the time.

2) The Numpad keys are reserved for weapon/stimpack use, so I can't rebind any of them.

3) Remapping the E key to Enter only works part of the time. E is hardcoded for looting.

4) Menu navigation is confusing at best. When you want to back out, sometimes its Tab, sometimes its Enter, sometimes its Esc. There's no consistency it seems.

5) Multiple actions should not be consolidated into one key. For example both melee attack and grenade share the same key. This is incorrect, they need their own individual key binds. As do holster + reload and any key that performs two functions.

Please allow us to properly rebind the keys. As it stands it's been partially implemented. All I ask is that Bethesda goes back and finishes the job.

To be honest, even if they fix the key bindings, after seeing all the bugs and problems on these forums, I'm not even sure this game is going to be worth it.

Is it going to be one problem after another, without any communication from Bethesda all the time?

You know what, maybe this is a sign to not even bother, and leave now rather than go through issues at every turn.

Save the headaches.

I can understand a 200 post limit on threads, it makes sense. But to target that thread and not lock others with 200+ posts seems just a case of trying to gag people who are genuinely pissed off and trying to paint a oh so happy " nothing to see here " image on the forum. Also that thread had some helpful suggestions and workaround which people will miss due to it being closed.

I did suggest to sticky the thread so the forum doesn't get clogged up with more and more new key binding threads. But hey, that would be the logical and helpful thing to do and we can't have that now. Next thing we will know an official statement might be made and heaven forbid an actual patch to fix this clown of a PC release.

To reiterate what quake1800 said Note: Please keep this thread on topic and do not allow the subject to turn into a moderator bashing thread.

Even though the the locking of said thread does seem very bias and an attempt to gag the community members that are being left in the dark on the matter.

Hello guys.

There is a valid reason those posts have not been locked and here is two:

1) Players actively trying to help other players.

2) The posts are about -bugs- and their solution(s).

While not being able to bind your keys can svck, it is not a bug. The games keybinding work as intended (Much like druids in TBC).

And there is a solution that I use myself:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1546356-workaround-for-hard-bound-keys-autohotkey-tutorial/

I hope this works for you too.

I guess this is down to what you classify as being a bug, but here's my take:

By pressing E, you can interact with objects like terminals, pick up loot thats on the floor, open doors, loot containers, etc etc. You can remap the E key to another one, and can do all the previous actions EXCEPT ONE - loot containers. That is clearly an error on behalf of the developers, because there's no reason why remapping the key would do everything except loot containers. Its an error, an oversight, and yes, I would define that as a bug. It is NOT working as intended.

Actually the key bindings do not work as intended:

  • ██"Key bindings not adapting for AZERTY keyboard" http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544348-this-2015-not-2008-keybindings-on-azerty-keyboard/ http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544248-bug-report-index-pc/page-7#entry24499778

( Taken from Bug Index )

Also members of the community were actively helping others within the locked thread. I've diverted many a key binding issue thread to that specific thread due to iFailed posting up a work around.

It's a pure and simply case of gagging. At the time of it being locked the thread had around 8274 views.

I stand corrected. That is obviously a bug.

I haven't remapped 'E', and thus haven't caught that one.

To all concerned, I've sent a PM to Gstaff about these issues and directed him to the original thread (as that contains more info). Keep your fingers crossed!

While I can see and understand that problem and agree that not supporting AZERTY is an oversight, I do not consider that part to be a bug. (And I can understand your point of view if you use an AZERTY keyboard.)

While I maintain the link in my previous post to be the best solution (And the one I use) there is also:

CTRL + SHIFT which changes keyboard layout to QWERTY and back again- which is a temporary solution, but at least one that works.

On a sidenote:

Ammo, you need to calm down a bit - I can understand getting a thread you follow locked to be annoying... Aggressive lock queries in other threads makes you look like a pain. Don't be a pain. Take a breather. The problem has been reported, documented but isen't one that can be "problem solved" like: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1546438-fallout-4-crash-in-specific-area/page-24 (Although a solution haven't been found. :P)

Nice one, at least we could possibly get a sticky. Just today alone there have been 4 more key binding threads opened up. It would be a start. Then perhaps get some official statement about the matter at hand.

Nice work Absoluted. :goodjob:

I personally don't use an Azerty keyboard, but I am left handed. I was merely replying to your statement that key bindings work as intended when they clearly don't, thus are a bug. You don't consider the Azerty binds not adapting to the current key mapping as a bug. Well the moderator thought differently as they have added it to the bug index. Oversight/Bug you can quibble over terms all day.

Aggressive lock queries in other threads? How was I in any way aggressive? I even end the post with " Thanks " It was a genuine question which the moderator replied and answered for me. There's a big difference between "being a pain" and looking for answers by asking questions and debating. But this is waay off topic and is irrelevant.

Still doesn't answer the questions, why was the product released with such a shoddy UI and control interface. Why hasn't anything been posted about it from an official source. Why are there no patches out yet? How the hell did this get past QA and play testing??!?! :wallbash:

I recently decided not to wait for them to fix this game or not. So I asked and got a refund. The key bindings were a substantial part of my decision (see http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1555778-no-fixes-or-statements-cant-wait-forever-to-ask-a-refund/#entry24546634) so I fully support this thread here and the previous (now locked) thread that came before it.

Nice way of getting rid of critisism for those who don′t want to dangle with 3rd party tools to be able to actually play the game they paid for.

Still a leftie here, still unable to play the game out of the box, still asking Bethesda for a reasonable, editable keyset and not the mess they delivered.

need.. key binding fweedom...

also... (begging) need.... More favorites slots... make alternet slots for items, bombs and equipments plz!~

Positive things... Bethesda THANKS FOR THE NEW HOME INVENTORY SYSTEM! where we can have all our storage items avaliable during building/crafting... saves us time to moving stuff left and right... I still remember just few weeks ago... crafting something at work station requires me to get to another room, pick up the items... go back to crafting station, then build it... glad that wasting time days are over... less moving stuff, more actual game time!~ THANKS!~
