keypad binding....RAGE!

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:00 pm

created a topic about that here

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1546142-horribad-keyboard-keybinding/

Like many console port, this games have a LOT of keyboard binding issues. If you rebind all aviable keys ( like i do for ALL games i play )

there is issue with :

- loots keys ( like the "r" key to transfert ) and because you cant even rebind thoses keys ( or more precisely, thoses particular keys are "not linked" with the bindable keys

- cant even rebind the "tab" keys to quit all menu, or lets say because tab keys is "by default" used to the pipboys, but if you rebind the pipboy key, the "tab" isnt changed

- you cannot MOVE ANYMORE in construction mode... like what the... the the "strafe left" os recognized by the game because its the "D" key

- What the f***ing [censored] when you sometime have to exit a menu with "tab", sometime with "esc" sometime you confirm with "enter" sometime with space, sometime with another key, sometime the key dont even work so you have to click with the mouse... What's seriously wrong with whoever made that !?

- I dont even speak about the keys choosed for the character creator menu... its... /clap clap...

Sure i saw quite many game with terrific keyboard mapping / bad re-bind ability.. but this game is truly amazing in this category.. i'am astonished

I mean, sure you only care about console and gamepad because more money on console, but SERIOUSLY how its possible to KEEP release such crap "keyboard key management" when you produce PC games since like what ? more than 13years...And you still dont even make something VERY BASIC such as KEYBOARD + MOUSE USAGE correctly... that's over me.

Yes i'am kinda salty in my post, i'am more or less sorry if it offend anyone, but i'am really tired of thoses "barely finished product but hey lets wait for the modder to finish our job" even more when it come from a AAA company...

( And no, i dont wanna play with a gamepad... dear lord. )

So... Would you mind ( if its not too much to ask.. ) to please fix this truly horrific keyboard mapping / keybinding / worse menu navigation ever. And like... do it correctly.

thanks.

The hard-coded keybindings for the PC version makes the game unplayable. I've used EDSF to control the movement of my FPS games since the Doom2 days. It's completely unacceptable that you cannot remap every key on the keyboard to what you prefer. If devs are watching, you should get coding. Like now...

I'm also an EDSF player and it's making building and generally walking around anywhere from annoying-unplayable. Why even bother letting us rebind at all if they don't do it properly?!

Like that you cant say "we cant rebind keys"

But at see how the "menu" keys are made, keys that dont change when you rebind them ( like the "tab" as default bound to the pipeboy ) you can really say they barely took care of making a good keyboard support.

I personaly move with rdfg, and in construction mode i cant move at all except strafe left because i still use "d" from wasd.... ( no speaking about the constant "transfert" menu when i move around... that's... -_-" )

worse keyboard support ever. And totaly absence of common sense when they made all the various "interaction meny keys".. Terrific.

Btw another tidbit for lefties.
Although my mouse primary buttons are swapped in Windows fallout 4 doesn't recognize this.
When you rebind the mouse buttons though key configuration it works until you enter vats.
Inside vats mouse 1 is hard coded to select the area in of attack.

Honestly why let us rebind at all.... If your going to hard code the binding which ignore your key bindings.....

Reading your post, I had to look at your username and date of the post to make sure that it wasn't exactly what I said 4 years ago about skyrim. I've been using ESDF (plus A=Jump, CTRL=fire, Q=activate, TAB=scores) since doom as well.

It is inexcuseable

There's no reason for it. "Console port" is invalid as there are many games that can completely differentiate between kb/m > controller just from using it.

It's so bad, that using my keybinding setup makes it so that I can only use S to STRAFE LEFT in the settlement manager. EDF rotate the selection.

Furthermore, I don't believe for a second that it's unfixable because it was fixed BY MOD in Skyrim.

Just wanted to add my "vote" to this thread. This is completely unacceptable.

It's absolutely unbelievable that a PC game would have hardcoded keybinding in 2015.

The keyboard is not a controller. Many people prefer their keys in many different configurations.

I don't see crying; it's more like people demanding a feature that they payed for.

And you call yourself a lefty. Pffft. Show some pride and use your good left hand!

Seriously, though, they've gotten progressively worse about proper keybinding over the last few games. Now they've totally hidden the controlmap.txt file that we used to fix this mess in Skyrim (before they eventually patched in proper key binding).

I actually applied to Bethesda for the position of Bind Master to oversee the design & development of keybinding options in all of their games. Here's to hoping I get the job!

I have the same issue, I've been using ESF for movement since 1990 with Wolfenstien and have never liked WASD, how did that ever become standard. I keep picking people/things up and I can't move around when I'm trying to build things in my town. Please patch this and make the pickup/placement key bindable in the game for us weirdo's that took Keyboarding class and know how to type. :)

Left handed as well, but I use EDSF and have since the days of Doom and Duke3D.

Making A = jump, Z = crouch, Space bar = Use... and on and on.

Hard coding the E key to the Looting function, and hard coding it to placing items in the settlement crafting is very foolish.
It almost makes the settlement sections unplayable as you can't properly move around. Pressing E to move forward only works to place the item (wall, building... whatever) in the world instead of moving you.

These functions should be tied to whatever key is currently mapped to USE. There's no point in allowing people to remap the USE function to a different key, if some functions of USE remain coded to the original key.

Also, F is hard coded to rotate the item in the settlement mode. So, instead of being able to strafe right... you're stuck rotating the wall you just built.

I use ESDF as well, have since DOOM. The game is almost unplayable using mouse and keyboard. A key-mapper program won't work due to the fact that some keys are unbindable, e.g. 'E' to autoloot.

Who thought it was okay to ship a game in 2015 that didn't offer proper key binding?

Would you play baseball if they only had gloves for righties?

Add me to the enraged list.

And Autohotkey is a HACK, a BANDAID, not a viable long-term fix.

Will somebody at Bethesda at least acknowledge our complaints?

Left handed player here and this makes playing in tense situations miserable. There's no reason the full keyboard and all actions should not be bindable in this age. I could understand if it was escape or backspace but the whole numpad and even then some keys not even being an option to rebind? Come on, damn.

Really disappointed to see they did this again. I loved Skyrim and dealt with its issue by using an awkward I,J,K,L bind. I couldn't believe it when it wasn't fixed in the first patch, or the second... Then as time passed it became apparent they had no intention of fixing it at all. Amazingly, it sounds like they made the issue even worse in FO4.

I'm not buying it this time unless there's an official patch. If it comes down do a user mod being the only way to fix it, maybe I'll buy it during the 2016 Steam Winter Sale when its $10.

I was so excited about this game it's very dissapointing that they decided to make a game with such clunky keymapping. I gave up at the redrocket and turned it off out of frustration. I thought I would come and find some kind of config to fix it with I guess not. This is the only way I could voice my opinion. Fix the game and I will glady repurchase it.

Steam has refused to refund the game to me because I spent so long trying to get used to the the WASD keys and ended up playing more than two hours.

Looks like I've bought my last game from Steam.

It beggars belief that in this day and age from a company such as Bethesda decide to hard code key binds. I mean, W. T. F! Especially when it's widely known that a lot of players use EDSF for movement. What were they thinking?!?!?!

It was the same story with DeadSpace, a game I really wanted to play when it was released. I'm left handed so use arrow keys for my movement. But they, in their great wisdom decided it to be a brilliant step forward in gaming to hard code ALL of the keys! It's madness!

Come on Bethesda you're a AAA game title producing company, you're not novices to this. Of all the things that you could get wrong and this is THE most fundamental. I'm currently using Auto Hotkey for the time being but it really isn't a perfect fix and to be quite frank, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO USE A THIRD PARTY APP OR MOD TO REBIND MY KEYS!!!!!

Let's hope these geniuses release a patch to fix this intentional bug quickly!

If it were April the first you would think this was a joke!

I thought I would post my submitted " feedback " form here for you to read through just for posterity.
