Khajiit and argonian body shape

Post » Sat Mar 15, 2014 5:48 pm

When creating a character for the beta test in ESO it strucked me that both khajiits and argonians have, although with very unique settings about their "skin" textures and shapes, very human body shape. For some reason I dismissed that this was actually the standard since the Oblivion and my thoughts returned to the beautiful body shapes for these two races in Morrowind, where they have their characteristic animal leg shape acompany with different walk animation.

Don't get me wrong, again in ESO both look very beautiful and I can see the work they've put in them to give players freedom of making their unique characters. It is a pitty that in all those details they make them look too human like.

What are your thoughts? It seems that players are ok with this since this is "normal" since the Oblivion.

There are different kind of khajiits, altough I think the yshould look more like in morrowind since this game is before then and the more humanly evolved khajiit should be less by now, altough in Arena in daggerfall previous to morrowind they looked even more like bosmers, human.

But this is the Suthay-rath and they have evolved to be more like a human in shape except for tail and fur and cat like face etc.

They do look to human shaped to me.

Down to their anatomy and muscle structure.

For khajiit it isn't that bad since they are still mammal creatures and there are some human like ones in the lore.

But argonians look weird, the biggest thing that annoys me about them is their tail.

It seems like it's just glued to the lower back and it stands perpendicular to the spine.

Normally the tail should be an extension of the spine and have a downwards slope, it just looks weird.

I'd like a flatter head for the Argonians. I would hope that they look more like lizards and less like the gorn.

True, true - as it was beautifully described by ShoddyCast ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MteinMPdHP8 ), maybe in some awesome paralel universe players have a option to choose between several Khajiit forms (mammoth sized battle cats carrying several "regular" kajiits would be pretty insane in pvp :ahhh:).

In Morrowind I maxed my Khajiit to grasshopper qualities, leaping over buildings like a superman - it felt great, unrestrained and especially it felt non-human. Here both Khajiit and primarily Argonian races look like halloween-costumed humans with pretty much human impression from them. Its kind of a shame.

Ohhh ... that might be the explanation - Bethesda is full on hard-core trekkies! :D

Developer laziness. Using the same humanoid model for everything even though it doesn't even make sense, like argonian females with boobs. Logic and common sense, away!

It is true they would have to make new sets of animations and actions, but than again, only one more for khajiits and argonians, at least it looked very similar in Morrowind. And considering a project this big it is nothing short of a necessity.
Argonians with boobs does sound strange, and for khajiit they should have eight .. sounds a bit distracting though. :)

whoa.... lol

But yeah I agree. Since oblivion, the "beast" races have been humans with costumes on

It is unfortunate but you have to factor in that the developers would have to remodel all the armor and weapons to look right on those two races and humans to often feel alienated if they look too different. Former can be described as developer laziness or as most of them would call it "Would love to do it, but we simply did not have the time."

Yea, me too prefer Morrowing-style legs. Through in Morrowind they were also messed up, It could be made better.. Still, it was better than simple human body
