Khajiit/Argonian - Oblivion or Morrowind models?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:02 am

Its a rather straightforward question.

My thoughts
Argonian;
-Animal-ish legs, like in Morrowind
-A more alligator-ish face. With a longer snout. Kind of like the lizardmen from NWN2. Something like this http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&q=argonian#/d2dd82s (credit to Hndz on Deviantart)

Khajiit;
-Morrowind legs.
-Mix between morrowind and oblivion faces. I'd like it to be more feline than oblivion faces.
Something like this would be perfect http://snowskadi.deviantart.com/art/Khajiit-Desert-Walker-24857237

So, what do you want?

Well we've already seen a concept art of an Argonian and I thought it looked awesome, a combination of Obliv and Morrow aesthetics

I didn't really see a major difference between the faces in Morrowind and Oblivion, honestly, either one works for me, I'm mostly concerned with what's below the neck, in this case, I'd prefer Morrowind's approach to Oblivion's, of course with much better animations. Though if Bethesda comes up with a new approach that looks even better, hey, I won't complain. Also, the claws need to come back, I could have lived with Oblivion's design, if they only had claws.

The image in the concept art wasn't clear enough, I'd say, and in any case, it's only concept art, it's hard to say how closely it will translate into in-game models. Because sometimes, things in the actual game don't look exactly the same as in concept art, it happened with Morrowind, and it happened with Oblivion, and I could see it happening in Skyrim as well.

Could you point me in the direction of this Concept art? All I've seen of skyrim was the trailer.

I would prefer them to remain 'Man-Beasts' to straight up beast-like.

Though, I would also prefer them to be more beast-like than they were in Oblivion.

Here's the concept art: http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/misc/artofskyrim_010_argoniandragon.jpg (the argonian is on the left)

Looks to me like it has slightly bent legs but a mostly human form. Ergo, 50/50 Morrow/Obliv (really though it would be most accurate to call it Skyrim style)

A mix for both; more bestial than Oblivion's, but much less gangly and awkward than Morrowind's. More compact and powerful-looking.

Agreed, this would be an excellent balance for Khajiit.

The best example image I can think of for what I'd like Argonians to look like is... Skyrim's concept art! So that's very promising.

I'd like it to be more like Morrowind's beasts.Oblivion's looked like furry/scaly costumes - but I did love the Oblivion faces!

In Morrowind, they walked on two legs, spoke, could use weapons, armor, and clothing. They had intelligence comparable to the other races, and could do all things they could do (except wear boots and full helms.) that was man enough for me. Oblivion didn't put enough focus on the "beast" part if you ask me.

I do agree that the design looks like it's not quite the same as both. I get the impression that the feet have an actual reptilian look to them, rather than just being human feet, though that could just be boots. I also think I see claws on the hand, though it's hard to be sure from this angle. I like the tail, though, that much, I can say.

But like I've said, it's only concept art, and may not fully translate into the game, we can't say exactly what they're going to look like until we've seen screenshots or videos showing the in-game models.

I think that in OB they where better but in MW they looked more "beast like".....so a mix of both would be great.

Whatever body Bethesda use, I want MW head for the Argonian, and a smaller nose for the Khajiit.

I like how it would appear to me (although it was hard to tell from one pic) that they are going with it. It's sort of reptilian, got the bent up heels (from the lok of it), different posture, but still rather humanoid in appearance.

The morrowind system. It was really quite simple, they just bent the legs backwards, and added a new "foreleg" on top of the normal legs. Though the animations in morrowind were terrible, it looked like they beast races walked on stilts. If they could look more graceful this time, I think it would be great.

They've probably already decided on the oblivion system, though.. judging by the art.

I didn't vote because, to be honest, I'm not sure which I would prefer.

But has anyone considered the possibility that this might be customizable? I mean, they've said plenty of times now that they're adding deeper customization to the game, and while it might be a stretch, I don't see why they couldn't do that. Their new "Havok Animation" stuff is going to be able to use the same animation fluidly on a different skeleton, so as long as they add a walking animation for a Khajiit/Argonian (And I'm sure there'll be one) no matter what their legs look like, it should be able to animate fluidly. In theroy, of course.

I have to say that my preferences lie with Oblivion's Khajit and Argonians. Perhaps tweak the legs a bit, but not to the extent that they were in Morrowind - with those animations, it looked anatomically incorrect as well as just plain weird. However, cat and lizard heads on human bodies doesn't cut it either...

I say keep the Oblivion model and just shift the posing a bit, like say give Kajiit a more feline way of walking (aka with the weight of body more on the front half of the foot and the heels lifted), maybe give them a more forward leaning, bestial pose.

Argonians should really look like they did in Morrowind.
In Oblivion, things went so ridiculous that female argonians even had briasts. It broke my suspension of disbelief - and yes, in a game with magic and dragons and demons, it still managed to do that.

just use the same explanation as a artist I know when people ask why his dragon women has briasts

"it′s body fat deposits"

Oh, don't even mention that. It's such a terrible explanation that it's even better if they don't give any explanation at all. :P

Seriously, argonians need to be fixed. They are way too human for my liking. Kahjit are ok since they're still mammals, but amphibians and reptiles are a completely different biology. I'm going to be really disappointed if the argonians in Skyrim look like the argonians in Oblivion (that is: human people wearing a reptile mask and a fake tail).
But ah, who am I kidding. I know there's an high chance that argonians will still look like in Oblivion.

I really like them in both games for what they are, but in my opinion they should look a bit more feral. With claws and stuff. I'd also like if they had unique boots models similiar to that one mod for Oblivion, Scripted Feet. Or at least make them being unable to equip boots again. Unique animations wouldn't hurt either. Oh, and no lizard bewbs plx.
