Khajiit Night Eye

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 8:28 pm

Just looking for peoples thoughts.

It drove me nuts how my Khajiit night eye was only 30 seconds and i had to cast it. It would be so nice to see it as a toggle-able ability that requires no cast, like equipping a helmet with the night eye enchantment on it (in oblivion.) I played with a low brightness setting so i had to use night eye in dungeons and quite often i would cast it and get seen or the more likely cast it, start combat, it dies out, then i can't find the archer shooting me until i recast the night eye native ability... really just looking for a passive night eye for khajiits.

I am looking to see if people agree with me.

decided to make a poll since I do not see much discussion coming out of this.

I'd rather have it like the detect life spell, where you hold it down and it stays on for that duration.

It should be a toggle that doesnt cost any Magicka.

I know I'm ripping off Farcry instincts but it'd be cool if you could track people by scent.

Can one usually switch off his ability to see in the dark ?

I think it should be a part of being Kahjiit that you never get to experience true darkness. Granted that is a selfish view but I will be playing a Kahjiit in Skyrim and that's how I hope it will be like.

it is a racial so it would still bug me if i have to equip it to a hand, and hold it down. Especially if i am using a bow when i cant have it used then. thus making only useful for Khajiit mages and one handed swords men.

Agreed. I honestly have no idea why it wasn't like this in Oblivion. Seems like a no-brainer to me, surely?

I hope not. I like the dark, and I like wandering around in it.

I would like to see it as that, now idk how selfish it would be... unless it was auto-activated and just made it look like daytime all night then it would be selfish.

Well, the are cats (most ridiculous race in the game along with the lizard one) and cats can see like 6 or 8 times as better as us in the dark

I'd like it to be passive and always on, so that even in the day it is on; resulting in inferior day vision draw distances.

It would be even better if it was automatic like in fallout new vegas. More realistic.

 At third option, but yes anyway it would be good if it was passive and it just naturally faded in.

didn't they confirm that racial powers and Dragon Shouts don't have to be equipped
still be annoying if you had to reuse it every 30 seconds but better than having to put your sword away whilst using it

Well they are cats, so it would be logical that nighteye would be a passive ability(no toggle or cast). I certaintly like the of a hunter that can see in the dark, while the prey cannot.

EDIT: Also with the new magic system, cast or toggle would be highly unpractical, as stated before.

should be automatic, every time you go into a dark area or look at a dark area you can still see it and it has a blue twinge...

and argonians should be able to breath underwater indefinitely

and im playing as a nord

Yeh I think the Kajiit should have detect life, as a racial attribute. a way to show their noses have bettter sense of smell than other races!

when using shouts you don't equip to a hand. racial abilities and other non-spell abilities will hopefully work the same way

Well... hehe, it would depend how Night Eye looks :P

If it looks as bad as in Oblivion, then it's more of a curse than a reward/power

Is one usually a Khajiit? Your question is invalid.

Gameplay is what matters. Depending on how the effect is handled being unable to turn it off could lead to an unbearable experience.

The only always on Nighteye I would be comfortable with would be one similar to the Aliens PoV in Aliens vs Predator 2010 and I really cant see Skyrim having that.

I highly support Night Eye being a passive ability that can just be toggled and not have it drain magicka at all. It just makes more sense that they'd have proper night vision, being a race of kitties and all that jazz. :P For the love of Azura though please not be eye bleedingly blue! I was so happy for the shader changing mods so that I could give my eyes break from the blue.

One of the very first mods I ever downloaded for Oblivion made it so the player could toggle night eye on or off (it also included the vampire's hunter's sight ability).
I would definitely like to see this happen.
