Khajiit races invalidated?

Last question.

Is that cat just lying to avoid talking about Khajiit matters? Or does ZOS really try to retcon the Khajiit races away? That was rather interesting lore...

Although the question asked is quite valid. How does an Alfiq give birth to a Senche-raht?

Thank you. That totally slipped my mind.

So yeah, just quoting that would have basically cut it. Instead they are trying to retcon something not in need of being retconned.

OR they are just emphazising on Khajiits as lying bastards. :P

I actually don't want to hate on ESO, very much surprisingly awesome lore in there. But what is your guys stance on the Khajiit races matter?

I'd comment, but whenever I try to click on the link, I keep getting redirected to the confirm your age page and then it chucks me to the site main page.

Edit: Nevermind; just clicking on the first box there goes to it.

He must be lying, because the "as tall as Two Altmer" line comes from an actual Khajiit, not an Imperial. Though that Khajiit could be lying, I suppose, but Senche were shown in one of the novels, so it would just be a matter of confirming how they were portrayed there. He is also wrong in saying there are only seventeen breeds, as quoted from the First Pocket Guide:

This. I noticed a lot of the lore know seems to contradict the Pocket Guides. I guess that was the intent to show the propaganda of the Empire?

Here are the quotes from the novel on the various Khajiit breeds, from the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/infernal-city-lore-notes.

In the ESO article the author says there are 17 distinct breeds of Khajiit. Perhaps the Khajiit only really notice those 17, but the Imperial's noticed many diverse things and added more categories. Hell, I bet they mistook some of the same for different.

Thanks. Ha! They answered a question about the second pocket guide! That ought to make a few folks around here smile. They confirmed the races of khajiit, Space, they aren't reconning them away. I'm personally not too concerned about the "17", we've never really heard about any others despite the mention of there being over 20. There are Senche and such in ESO, this QA is just saying that the size differences between khajiit breeds might not be as large as outsiders may have heard. "Twice as tall as an Altmer" might have been an exaggerated brag, for instance.

I don't think they're retconing the breeds, but they do seem to be saying that they don't have as much differences as we know. Which goes against what other Khajiit have told us, and what we've seen ourselves (in the novel).

My answer? ESO takes place a thousand years before anything else we've seen. Perhaps the Khajiit breeds 'evolved' to be more different than they were in the mid 2nd era, either naturally or on purpose. This would go a long with the idea that the Void Nights were a eugenics experiment.

Hypothesis: Khajiit solidarity and identity is not a fixed thing, nor does it always react in the same way to external forces. In response to the heavy hand of the Third Cyrodilic Empire, Khajiit drew together. In response to the Interregnum-time Aldmeri dominion, Khajiit become more factional and less trustful of their own kin, especially in the decades following the death of the the Riddle-Thar.

The effects thereof: Senche-raht exist in the second era, but are not considered true catfolk. They are sub-feline, produced of the furstock, but not a child of the sands in the same way as other creatures a litter-mother might produce. They are not the only exception to this rule: that is why there are, according to the Moon Bishop, only seventeen true breeds of Khajiit, which do not vary in height quite so much as the others (Alfiq are in, Sench-Raht are out). The others are either misnomers or accidents.

Moon Bishop Hunal is in this respect dated in his views: the "lower" castes of Elsweyr are becoming gradually recognized (and indeed eventually the caste system will be forgotten altogether).

A very hazy and easily dispelled proposal, but it conveniently fixes this one specific thing.

In the books, Attrebus and Sul run into a wandering band of Khajiit, and Attrebus does spy there is a tent full of kittens. The leader of the band, who is a female Ohmes-Raht and looks like the khajiit from TES2, explains to him that they're her family's young and that the giant cat she rides is one of her brothers.
