[RELZ] Khuul Head-replacer ver 1.0

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:46 pm

Some time ago, I asked Cyrano with the LGNPC project how it was at all possible for him and his team members to write dialog and flesh out personalities for NPCs when they in fact had no idea how these NPCs would look in other peoples games. What I was referring to was of course the many head-replacers players have to choose from today.

Cyrano confirmed my thoughts: with such a broad variety of replacers, he and his team can only be sure of one thing - that they cannot predict at all how anyone will look. A female breton who is a pretty young blonde when you use replacer A might be a stern-looking middle-aged brunette, with head replacer B or a gray-haired old lady with replacer C. If the look of an NPC matches his/her LGNPC personality and background is it a matter of chance.

Therefore we collaborated to make a local head-replacer for Khuul - a head-replacer that provides a portrait of each NPC consistent with the character created by the LGNPC writers. Cyrano and I compared our thoughts about the personalities of each of the residents of Khuul represented by their LGNPC dialog and background. I sent him suggestions for heads and hair, and we made the decisions together. In several cases, I have made new heads in order to try and express the unique personality of the NPC.

The finished result is now ready:

Khuul Headreplacer ver 1.0 - LGNPC-ready

http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Headreplacers.htm

This headreplacer has been made in co-operation with the http://www.lgnpc.org/, and the goal has been to find faces and hairs that match the personalities that have been given to the npcs in Khuul by the LGNPC-team.

Make sure that this mod loads after LGNPC Khuul and other head-replacers in the load order in order to ensure that the faces will show up.

Many faces are specifically made for this head-replacer, whereas some have been previously released in my head-packs.

Credits:

LGNPC-team - for making Morrowind more alive with unique npc-personalities and new quests.

Although the heads are all by me, the hairs are made by the following modders:

Rhedd
Darksharp (Better Heads)
Gorg (Better Heads + Beauty pack)
Westley (corean hair)

Note: It is possible as a result of a LGNPC quest (I shouldn't reveal which) a clone of an existing NPC will replace the original. It was problematic to apply the new head to this clone, therefore the clone will appear different from the original NPC.

Thank you for this, Emma! They look beautiful as ever, and it'll be great to dodge the whole face/personality mismatch thing. Much appreciated! :goodjob:

Will this work without LGNPC? I love the heads you make, but I don't particularly want LGNPC :)

The mod is in no way dependant on LGNPC, it's a stand-alone mod. It just offers the extra feature that the faces should match the way the LGNPC-team has interpreted the various npcs.

...and if you haven't tried out LGNPC, you really should, it adds a lot to the immersion of Morrowind without breaking any lore! :)

Yes, if there is an interest in this, there will definitely be more LGNPC-ready local replacers like this one :)

There seems to be an interest then... :)

I will continue on this, I'm actually reading up on a couple of other LGNPC-villages right now :)

What a simply brilliant idea, thank you Emma

Well, to be honest, I think it actually was Cyrano who first mentioned this idea :).

Emma and I are happy to share credit for the idea since it truly was formed jointly. Emma inspired me to consider the matter when she wrote of how her dialog is guided in part by the appearance of the NPC, and observed how challenging it must be for our writers when they do not know how the NPC will appear in any particular game. I had been pouring over AfroKing's http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=994490 and came away with a decided preference for Emma's heads. Since Emma's replacers treated entire settlements at a time it seemed a very natural process for Emma and LGNPC to coordinate their efforts to make NPCs that are complete of mind and body. I do not think the blessing of the community was necessary for that collaboration to continue, but it is nice to know we have it.

Emma's heads stand on their own merit (head stands?) Even if a player has no interest in LGNPC mods, I strongly recommend this head replacer.

Congratulations on the release, Emma.

Yes, I'm more than happy to continue on this - it's a pleasant kind of modding to be able to brainstorm over how various npcs 'should' look and to know that the efforts might add something extra also to the LGNPC project.

Great idea. Aside from fitting with LGNPC, this'll go nicely along with the pluginless head replacer I'm using for some extra variation. :)

yes... that's what I like with local replacers - they add to the variety and immersion without forcing me to exclude other head-replacers. Everyone can have their own mix :)

Are your other existing replacer head packs (Dagon Fel and Tel Mora) based on LGNPC as well?

No, they were made several years ago. But, what I would like to do, if Cyrano agrees on this, is to ask him to look at my Tel Mora head replacer and tell me if there are any heads that he thinks fit the LGNPC personalities there, and then I would like to change the rest to make also the Tel Mora head replacer 'LGNPC-ready'.

As far as I know, there currently doesn't exist any LGNPC-mod for Dagon Fel.

Lyssia, for some reason I didn't notice your question before: Yes, the heads are playable.
